ComponentOne was formed on July 1, 2000, by the merger of APEX Software Corporation and VideoSoft. Both APEX and VideoSoft have a history of leadership in the Microsoft Visual Studio component industry. APEX's DBGrid and VideoSoft's MSFlexGrid were licensed to Microsoft Corp. and are included in the current version of the Microsoft Visual Studio development environment.

ComponentOne has received numerous industry and user accolades for their component tools, including awards from Info World, PC Magazine, Software Development and Visual Studio Magazine (formerly Visual Basic Programmer's Journal). ComponentOne is sometimes referred to as Component One, Component1 or C1.

ComponentOne is one of the largest developers and component vendors of add-on tools for Microsoft Visual Studio developers.
