PDFlib 8.0.3 released

A PDF merge example in PDFlib.

Adds support for generating barcode fields, plus support for 3D models in PRC format.

PDFlib is a component that allows you to programmatically create PDF files from within your own server-side or client-side software. PDFlib doesn't make use of third-party software for generating PDFs, nor does it require any other tools. It offers a variety of new and improved functions, including a new table formatter, PDF/A output for longtime archiving, AES encryption, integrated pCOS analyzing tools, a repair and optimization mode for input PDFs, and numerous other new features. PDFlib+PDI includes all PDFlib functions, plus the PDF Import Library (PDI) for including existing PDF pages in the generated output and PDFlib Personalization Server (PPS) includes PDFlib+PDI, plus additional functions for automatically filling PDFlib blocks. PPS also includes the PDFlib Block plugin for creating blocks interactively. PDFlib is available for all major operating environments and development environments.

The PDFlib Block plugin included with PDFlib Personalization Server (PPS) has been updated to version 4.3. It includes a redesigned user interface and offers Acrobat X compatibility on Windows and Mac OS X. The Japanese user interface is now also supported on the Mac.

Converting a PCL print file to PDF using Pcl2pdf.

Pcl2pdf for Windows Server quickly converts HP PCL print files to concise, industry standard PDF. Documents can be viewed and printed using the Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) product range and distributed by Web or e-mail. Pcl2pdf produces PDF documents that are fully text searchable and ready for indexing. Data encryption, passwords and access permissions can be applied. Pcl2pdf is available for Windows PC, Windows Server and UNIX systems with command line converters.

PDFLib 8 C++ binding Improvements
The C++ binding now supports a wstring-based interface, but can be configured to use the plain C++ string type as in PDFlib 7.
PDFLib 8 Images
PDFlib 8 will by default interpret an alpha channel in TIFF and PNG images. If this is not desired it can be disabled with the "ignoremask" option of PDF_load_image().
PDFLib 8 Text output Default kerning
PDFlib 8 will apply kerning by default; in contrast, PDFlib 7 applied kerning by default only in Textflow, and only if the font had been loaded with kerning=true. In order to avoid kerning for compatibility with older versions, set readkerning=false when loading the font, or kerning=false when generating text output.
PDFLib 8 Performance
PDF_load_font(): unlike earlier versions, PDFlib 8 will read kerning values from all loaded fonts by default. If kerning is not required font loading can be accelerated with the "readkerning=false" option.
PDFLib 8 Stricter checks
The output intent for PDF/A and PDF/X must be set before calling any of the following functions:

PDF_begin_page_ext()
PDF_open_pdi_page()
PDF_setcolor()
PDF_load_image()
