I have downloaded the evaluation version, but when trying to run the installer ActiveReports for .NET 3.0 SetupNET2.0.exe I get an error saying

Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropiate permissions to acces the item

I'm local admin (having full control over the machine), running Windows XP, and the executable is in the My Documents folder.
Any idea, someone?

I recently upgraded from AR 2.0 to AR 3.0 and something about passing the connection string has changed. Previously I passed it into the report before running as is shown below:

Dim rpt as New AccountReport
rpt.ds.ConnectionString = GetConnectionString()
rpt.parameters("ID").value=param
rpt.Run

This has been working for a couple of years, but now all of a sudden I get a Null Exception on the line rpt.ds.connectionstring=getconnectionstring() because the ds object is null. I've found that I can resolve this issue by executing the query externally and passing a dataset as a datasource, but I've got a lot of reports that would need changing and I would prefer to figure out how to pass the connection string in as I did before.

Hello,

I just can not find the "active report viewer control" under the toolbox of VS2005. Pls advice!
I am working on windows XP SP2, Visual Studio 2005, and Active Report evaluation package.
I can load those predefined samples, compile and run successfully.
I can even see the "active report viewer control" in the sample programs during design stage,
but just donot know where i can find it and add to my new C# project?

How can i do the coding part in a web application to connect to sql server 2005 database, where i use a stored procedure. I want to give an user interface for start date and end date to generate the report between those dates, where in that inputs are given to the sp to generate the data which is to be shown on the active report. All these should be done dynamically.

hi, everyone,
I have a problem with the ActiveReports.
the problem is following:
I set "Me.ActiveReportObject.Document.Printer.PrinterSettings.Copies=5" , the number of copies is Ok,
but the printer doesn't work successful.
I am sure if I don't set the copies's property, the printer can print the report paper.
if you know the reason. Please help me. thank you.

I wanted to inquire if anyone had a solution for the horrible export product to Excel and Word from ActiveReports. Upon exporting, the data is scattered and produces a 44-page report due to broken lines, misplaced text. Very aggravating, given the report should only be one page. If anyone has a solution, I would certainly appreciate your help. Also, would like to ask if anyone has experience with ActiveReport customer service response/resolution.

Buenos días,
anteriormente estaba trabajando con Visual Studio .NET 2003 y Active Reports 2.0. Tengo un programa en VB con varios reportes finales en ActiveReports. Todo funcionaba perfectamente hasta que un día tuve un error en el debugador del Visual Studio y tuve que desinstalarlo e instalar la versión 2005 del Visual Studio. Instalé el Active Reports 3.0 y ahora mismo no tengo manera de poder editar mis archivos con formato .RPX. No tengo la herramienta, dicho vulgarmente, windows no me proporciona ningun programa para abrir mis archivos .RPX para editarlos. Anteriormente usaba directamente Active Reports!!!
Alguien sabe cómo solucionar el problema? Estoy un poco frustado :(

Its looks like Active Report's ability to export to word and\or excel is severally lacking.....
Why does the export have to be so inaccurate for both Excel and Word?
I bought the product not knowing how bad the export was... bummer because all other aspects of the product work so well.

I am exporting a report to word .rtf. The client wants to be able to open the .rtf file and edit the report.
But Editing the .rtf is seriously hindered because of the way Active Reports creates the .rtf document.
The user cannot directly edit all the text in the Text Object. (The last character in the Text Object can not be removed or edited).
Has anyone come up with an easy solution for converting the .rtf document that Active Reports creates to a regular word document?

Any tips or tricks on getting the export to look better and be more end user friendly would be appreciated.

I am trying out Active Reports and I have fallen at the first hurdle. I have VS2005 and I am creating a web application. The problem I have is that the reports do not display graphics. If I add a picture to a report then the picture will display on my development machine (xp) but when deployed to the web server (win 2003 srv) all I see is a place holder. If I put a border around the picture or any graphic such as a box or an elipse on the report then these will not even show on the development machine. Does anyone have any ideas why this would be happening?

En el Visual Studio 2005 no tengo la opcion para agregar un nuevo reporte.
Si voy a agregar un nuevo item, no me aparece en la lista ActiveReports File.

El 2005 me reconoce el AR20

En Visual Studio 2003 si me aparece y puedo agregarlo.
Los reportes generados en 2003 y migrados a 2005 me funcionan.

Si alguien tiene una solución se los agradecería.

Tenemos el mismo problema.. nosotros estamos en proceso de evaluación y no podemos hacer ningún reporte. Por otro lado estoy interesado en saber si utilizas la aplicación para distribuirla ó la utilizas para desarrollar e incluir reportes terminados.

Hi, I have a problem with ActiveReport for .net 2.0.

I use XML as my report datasource, and I ran quicly onto a problem.

First, this is the XML structure sent to the report:

So, the report must draw each incident, grouped by SiteName.

The problem is that the report cannot make the referential integrity between SiteData and IncidentData, and it renders ALL incidents for EACH site.
Is there any way to do it with the designer? Maybe restructure the XML datasource?

I downloaded and installed the trial version of active report. Every time I drag a viewer to a form it shuts down vb.net 2003 IDE. I tried to uninstall activereport and get an error message “An exception occurred while uninstalling….. Access to the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.rpx is denied. And the installation rolls back.

Help What is the solution as it has crippled my IDE.

Missing features, comments on ActiveReports for .NET:

- The RichText component does not have a WordWrap option
- The RichText component does not have an option to keep the field together on the same page
- Export to excel is very awkward, too many columns are genererated / and/or the cell merging is wrong. Syncfusion does a much better job here.
- The GUI reporter does not show how a datasource can be bound to the report (it's manual coding)

Hello there

I have an .aspx (ReportTest.aspx) page with a WebViewer control. I have associated the report rptTest.rpx to it. In the code-behind of ReportTest page (on Page_Load), I create a connection, build the sql string and assign the dataset to the report datasource as follows:

Dim rpt As New rptTest

Dim oDA As New SqlDataAdapter(sSql, Conn)

Dim oDS As New DataSet

oDA.Fill(oDS, "TSDet")

rpt.DataSource = oDS

rpt.DataMember = "TSDet"

rpt.Run()

But no data is displayed in the report. Can you give me some hints why it doesn’t work?

In fact, when I use the Datasource Icon, the data is displayed but I do not want to do it this way. It would be nice if I could get some quick response as I’ve been trying this for 2 days and I’m lagging behind the schedule.

AR does not support the Oracle provider yet. However, you can easily create a dataset or a datatable from your sp using the oracle provide and set the report data source to that table or dataset in your reportstart event.
