Salve

abbiamo questo tipo di problema, utilizziamo active reports per la stampa delle etichette su stampanti UBI (intermec, Zebra ecc), e ci accade questo strano problema:

se settiamo la stampante delle etichette come stampante predefinita di Windows tutto funziona correttamente (anche se poi ho problemi nelle stampe di Windows che se non mi ricordo di cambiare la stampante mi andranno tutte sulla stampante delle etichette), se invece settiamo come stampante predefinita di Windows un'altra stampante allora la stampa ci fa vedere l'anteprima sballata (e fin qua potrebbe essere corretto xkè si appoggia alla stampante predef. di Windows), ma se poi scelgo per la stampa (dalla finestra di dialogo di Windows) la mia stampante etichette, la stampa viene comunque sballata perchè sembra appoggiarsi come formato carta a quello dell'anteprima anzichè a quello settato sulla stampante etichette.

Cojme possiamo risolvere il problema ottenenedo una stampa corretta senza essere obbligati a mettere la stampante delle etichette come stampante predefinita di Windows ??

Hi All,

I have developed an application to generate report with multiple data fields using Active Reports.

For some reason Run() method in ShowReportData() function jumps to the third data field and displys only 3rd and 4th data fields on the report though remaining data fields have data in them.

Can you all please help me out ,i am unable to figure it out why is it jumping to other data fieds but not displaying first and last data fields.

Hi!

I'm having some troubles with special characters of Hungarian language.
For example, the letter 'Ő' (capital letter) and 'ő' (small letter). If this doesn't appear correctly let me say its the letter 'o' with double acute (accent).
In Regional Settings, in 'Language for non-unicode programs', I have Hungarian. I have an Active Report in Visual Basic. If I write those special characters in design view they are printed without the accents. I have to attribute in code the text to the fields or labels.
But this is not the major problem because I solved doing by code.

The major problem is that in Visual Basic everything prints ok, but after making the setup (with Setup Factory) and installing in the same computer, prints without the special characters.
Any solutions for this?

In Detail section I have a text box. When I run report, it often has several records. Depends on number of records this text box may be split between pages, so top part of it with rest of the record is on first page, and bottom part is on second page. Is it possible to preserve integrity of the row with data, so if it does not fit on one page, the whole row will be moved on second page?

Hi,

I have designed hundreds of reports by using ActiveReport 1.0. These reports has been incorporated in my Visual Basic application. The application is already running in my client place. Suddenly my client goes for the OS upgradation. They went with Windows XP. At that time, my existing AR version doesn't support with that OS. Then I have found that AR should be updated. After that I have purchased AR v2.0. In that, there is an option to upsize from previous version to the new installed version. Next I have upsized the reports. It has been successfully completed. After doing this step, I found that some of the reports font size gets differed. The column value is not printed in the specified width. Regd. this issue I am facing lot of problems. It is difficult for me to increase the width since there has been more number of columns in the report. Also it is difficult to do hundreds of reports. I want the font size to be same as in the previous version. If somebody can help me in this issue, I am very much thankful.

We have a C# application that utilise Active Reports to display a report to the user.
When you use the scrollbar to scroll down the report will freeze up after you move the scrollbar up and down a few time fast.
The machine then goes into a spin where all if frozen and after about 10-15 sec it comes right again.
The machie has a decent CPU, graphics card and 1 Gb RAM.
Any ideas?

I inherited a VB6 app using ActiveReportsV2.0. I have a report with multiple sort levels where the gf for one of the sort levels never fires. The report does the gh code whenever the datafield changes, but doesn't do the gf code until the end of the report. Any ideas?

I'm using XML to add the data to the report. Now .. I thought that like crystal report , is the data changed in the group block, I would get a new group header to print. No working as such.

Hi, I have recently purchased Active Report2.0 sp3 standard edition. I'm trying to use this reporting tool mainly for web. Here is my situation and problem.
(i) In my development machine (win 2k and VB 6) , when I'm loading the pre-generated reports( *.rdf) via an html page ,through Arviewer control ..I need to hide the copy button from the toolbar .. The code I have written as follows

and it works fine . Then I have installed the software in our testing environment (exactly the same config like my dev). Copy all the necessary codes, and when I call the html page , the reports all loaded fine, but came with a client side validation error "arv.Toolbar... doesn't support this property". The copy button still shows at the toolbar. I'm not sure why this error is coming?
(ii) This problem , I'm quite sure related with distribution of Arview ocx control. When user try to access the same html page the Arviewer doesn't loaded automatically, instead showing a blank box.
My site structure is as follows
My Folder (Virtual directory)
| _ Report --> (in this folder all the reports are there (*.rdf) as well as the above html page)

Can any one pl help me with this two problem. Particularly for the second problem, how I'm going to distribute the ocx control. Thanks in advance.

I'm evaulating Active Rreports currently and I have a few questions:

I've worked out how to switch off the page header on pages other than the first but I can't work out how to switch of page footers on the last page of the report.

If I have some controls on a report and they are not required, for this generation, I know I can invisible them but does the report contract to take up that space or does it leave a blank area ?

I'm sure there were more questions. When I think of them I'll post them.

My active reports is acting strange after i've installed SP3 in my Win2K pro. Usually it just takes 1-2 seconds before i can view the report, but now it's taking minutes just to view a simple report. My code is as below :-

I've debugged my application, and found that the report will actually pause the longest when at the End If of the above coding. What could be wrong with my Active Reports? Before I've applied SP3, this report only take less than 3 sec to display. I've tried to reinstall my Win2K pro and Active Reports, but this problem still persist. Pls help. Thank you.

I just bought and downloaded the AR2 Upgrade from Std. to Prof. Version from ComponentSource.

Trying to execute AR2ProUpgrade.exe, I got a message that there is no AR2 Std. installed on my machine.
That's wrong, there's definitly a Version of AR2 Std. installed on my machine, and I'm using it for over a year.
Please help to get the prof.Version installed on my computer.

Active Reports V2 is an add-in for Visual Basic 6. Because of this it will not work with VB .NET. However, a .NET version is on the way, and should be released very soon.

What will happen in this scenario - An ASP page calls a dynamic ReportGenerator DLL (custom) and that DLL exports a PDF that takes 30 seconds

If another 10 requests come in at exactly the same time does that mean all ten have to wait in line e.g. serial so that the last user will have to wait approx 300 seconds?

Thank you for your post. I asked Data Dynamics Support about this. Do you have your DLL setup as a COM object, or as a registered DLL? If it is setup as a COM object your users shouldn't have to wait for the response from the server. If it is setup as a registered DLL, this would probably require a wait for each report to generate. Please let me know if this is the case and if you have any further questions.

Thanks for your reply. I answered my own question by doing a test myself. I used VB 6 to create an ActiveX DLL choosing the Apartment threading option. The project was set up to do the exporting of a report that had an ActiveX control contained within the report. It was an SVG viewer component with a graph loaded in it.

After running the test for 100 PDFs with one test application calling the the method in a loop I found that control returned back after about 10 seconds or less and that the PDF exporter asynchronously produced the PDF reports later. In this scenario the bottleneck was the export to PDF which was fine since handling it asynchronously gives control back to the app immediately.

Another test would be to load up lots of applications and run them at the same time which I will try later.

Also I was very pleased with how easy and intuitive it was to get going with the product. The licensing is very good being royalty free. In comparison to Crystal Reports I found it far too expensive for licensing when using it for a web application

PRO: connection to DB are more easly to manage, native support to XML data source, native support for BARCODE fields, the development enviroment (the IDE you use to erite the report) is an ActiveX control and may be redistribuited to your customers, PDF native export function (you don't need Acrobat), very good and WYSIWYG exports function to EXCEL, RTF and HTML formats, the ability to use any Active Script Engine - VB/J Script - to write code behind the report events (when you write external reports; for internal reports - AR Designer - you can use all the feautures of Visual Basic).
AGAINST: the AR engine loads into the memory all the pages before previewing/printing/exporting them: you could have problems with reports containing a lot of pages or pages with a lot of images; for web development CR engine is better then the AR PRO.

Example (VBScript. Sub OnDataInitialize):

After saving report templates - ReportDesigner - "File" - "Save" - Report5.xml.
In XML we see:

The opening of this file in ARViewer causes a error:
Error: XML Load failed. Please check fileName.
Number: 5711 (0x164F)

Russian symbols are incorrectly coded at preservation of a pattern of the report. As it to avoid???

Problem:
If i insert 10 records in a database table, and try to read it in an ActiveReport 2.0, so i have only the first 9 records in the report. The last record is missing.
So i use a 11. record with fantasy fields to solve my problem.
Is my computer too fast or the support team have a solution.

I checked with Data Dynamics about this question and they had the following suggestion:

Check your eof parameter in your fetchdata event. It sounds as though you are exiting before all records have been processed.

I think the answer is no. AR has a tool to convert a CR file to an AR file but nothing more. After the CR report has been converted to AR, you work with the AR format.

VBScript is an english programing language. You can not change the commands in another language.

I'm evaluating the ActiveReports Pro edition and have a few questions. Hopefully someone will be able to answer them. Thanks in advance for the assistance!

1) How do page numbers work? When I try using "=rpt.PageNumber" in the
DataField property it doesn't work. I've also tried various combinations
using SummaryFunc and SummaryType.

2) When error 2108 occurs during print because of division by zero (or any
error), how do I just ignore the error? I don't want processing to stop,
but instead have the returned value simply evaluate to "0" and keep running.
Using the m_rpt_Error event doesn't seem to let you "skip" these errors.

3) Can I use "IF" statements in the "DataField" property? Example I might
want to use "IF LoanAmt > 10000 THEN LoanAmt * 3 ELSE LoanAmt * 2". Or this,
"IF LoanType = 1 THEN "Fixed Rate". That type of thing. If I can't do this
using the "DataField" property is there any other way?

create a Filed in the Footer section.
e.g.

Division By Zero:
Use
On Error Resume Next
befor the error line.

Datafield problem:
Use a normal Field but unvisible it ! Datafield contains the true column name of your database.
Use another Field to show your desired result but without anything in datafield-box.

I want to know how many final users can execute a report at the same time, I mean ActiveReports sell its products per licence packs like Crystal Reports does, for instance 1 licence if for 5 concurrent reporting users in a LAN and if you need more users at the same time I need to buy more licence??. What about if I use ActiveReport for my web site??

ActiveReports works with VisualStudio.NET??

We require development licenses. We do not charge extra for concurrent users or use on a Website.

The kind of reports (letters) that we need to develop requires the use of textboxes with embedded fields of DIFFERENT font formatting.

For example imagine a paragraph of regular text but a SINGLE word in the paragraph is a database field that needs to be in bold or italic.

At the moment we are evaluating both Active Reports Pro 2 and Crystal Reports 8. Crystal Reports was found to provide this functionality
with the use of embedded fields in text objects but we are not at all pleased with the designer interface and the complex run time programming of objects.

On the other hand we were very happy working with Active Reports as we come from an Access report programming background but unfortunately we still haven’t come up with a solution to our problem and wonder if anyone has any ideas on it.

You need to use a RichEditControl on the report. You can have static text and add fields to the RTF. Look at the CustomPreveiw Sample that is installed with the Product. Take a look at the rptLetter report. It shows you how to obtain this functionality with ActiveReports.

Question:

I'm using Crystal, and am considering moving to Active Reports. However, my implementation requires the ability to upload a report file to a web server for web viewing. Crystal Reports includes a web component that makes it VERY VERY easy to incorporate Crystal Reports on your web server.

My question is this....Has anyone tried the Pro Version of Active Reports that lets you use the ISAPI Piece on a web server for "seamless output to HTML"?

Does this product work with any Visual Studio 6.0 tool? I have developed an application using Visual FoxPro 6.0 and would like to incorporate this product into the application.

I downloaded the demo, but cannot get it to work. Is this compatible with VFP?? The Compatible Containers section of this product's description says, Visual Studio 6.0

All ActiveReports have to be created in the VB environment. You may wrap the Reports in a dll and call this from VFP as you would call any dll created in the VB environment.

When I export Active Report to Excel, controls with borders generate two lines, one with border and other with the contents of control.
There are a patch to correct this problem or one code to insert in the control to correct this???

When you export to excel the borders will not automatically match up with the excel cell borders. If you could send the rdf file, we can test this by exporting to an excel file.

Please read my reply to a previous message with the same question. A very good reason to use AR rather then CR in a desktop application is the run-time distribution. With CR it's very difficult to make up the setup procedure (too many DLLs to include) and too often a third setup procedure causes a CR crash/fault. AR is very easy to redistribute and not so susceptible to enviroment changes as CR.

I have been using Active Reports 1.0 sp3 for a long time. It's been a great success, so much that I have a lot of code written using AR1.0 (lots of my reports include VB code for special formatting).

Has anybody done an upgrade? Was it smooth?
