A multi-database data management, query and design tool. Altova DatabaseSpy is a multi-database query, design, and compare tool. Altova DatabaseSpy is ideal for database administrators, database developers, and other database oriented IT professionals. Altova DatabaseSpy connects to all major databases including Oracle, IBM DB2, Sybase, MySQL and more. Altova DatabaseSpy eases SQL editing and table design for a fraction of the cost of single-database solutions. Altova DatabaseSpy includes features like table browsing, data editing, SQL auto-completion, visual table design, database content comparison, and more, which all save time and ensure accuracy.
Altova DatabaseSpy includes these robust and highly-flexible components and capabilities:
Connectivity to all major databases
Quick connect wizard
Database project manager
Online database browser
SQL editor
Database design editor
Export and import functions
Altova DatabaseSpy is designed to be the database professional’s multi-purpose tool, since it connects to all of the following database types:
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and 2005
Microsoft Access 2003
Oracle 9i and 10g
IBM DB2 8.x and 9
MySQL 4.x and 5.x
Sybase 11
In fact, DatabaseSpy is designed to work with any database that uses an ADO or ODBC connection.
Once you have connected to a database, Altova DatabaseSpy lets you browse data or examine the database structure. You can select any table and retrieve all rows or select just a sample to inspect the table structure. You can even open multiple databases of different types at the same time to analyze their contents.
Simplify SQL Development
DatabaseSpy includes a built-in SQL Editor with auto-completion, syntax checking, color coding, and drag and drop editing to make generation of SQL statements faster, easier, and more accurate. The SQL Preview function lets you test single SQL statements or complex SQL scripts and see the results without risking permanent changes to your databases. DatabaseSpy also features a graphical Database Design Editor that permits visual design and creation of the structure of a database without the need for any knowledge of SQL syntax. You can drag and drop existing database tables into the Design Editor to modify them, or you can construct brand new tables from scratch. DatabaseSpy makes it convenient to organize database connections, SQL files, design files, and favorites into projects for easy management. Projects are organized into files and saved for quick reloading and reuse.
Databases to XML and other export and import options
DatabaseSpy includes export and import functionality that lets you export database data to any of five different file formats: XML, XML Structure, CSV, HTML, and Excel, and import database data from CSV files.
DatabaseSpy has special features to help database professionals migrate existing database content for use in XML-based applications. Besides exporting databases to XML files, DatabaseSpy lets you export database tables directly into Altova XMLSpy. You can then use all the advanced features of XMLSpy to accelerate your multi-faceted development project.
Third-party applications such as accounting software packages and other business tools often contain underlying databases but do not provide full-featured database access or functionality. Altova DatabaseSpy can give a progressive user access to the underlying database to better understand the application, or to drill into the data to perform maintenance tasks that would otherwise be cumbersome if not impossible.
As you might expect, DatabaseSpy connects to your relational databases via existing user names and passwords, so functionality for a given user is dependent on the privileges configured for that user’s particular database account. A read-only user can employ DatabaseSpy simply to view, locate, and sort data. A database administrator with a fully-authorized user ID, on the other hand, can use DatabaseSpy to modify existing database tables and their relationships, or design, create, and populate a new relational database from scratch.
What’s new in DatabaseSpy 2013 Release 2?
Support for Creating and Editing Oracle PL/SQL Packages - PL/SQL packages are a core Oracle feature and can be found in existing databases when connecting with DatabaseSpy.
Support for Logical Files in IBM iSeries Databases - Implements functionality with a wider range of IBM DB2 databases.
What’s new in DatabaseSpy 2012 Release 2?
Support for creation and editing of Oracle PL/SQL packages - A PL/SQL package is a database schema object that can group logically related SQL types, variables, and subprograms. A PL/SQL package is visible to, and can be used by, stored procedures and other code outside the package. The concept of a PL/SQL package is unique to Oracle databases. DatabaseSpy users who connect to existing Oracle databases may encounter PL/SQL packages and stored procedures that depend on them.
Support for logical files in IBM iSeries databases - DatabaseSpy now includes support for logical files specific to IBM iSeries databases.
What’s new in Altova DatabaseSpy 2012?
JDBC database driver support - In addition to ODBC and ADO drivers, DatabaseSpy 2012 supports JDBC database drivers for database connections to all supported databases. Database users who already use JDBC drivers are able to get started with multiple database operations even more quickly with DatabaseSpy 2012.
Search in Project window - Search functionality has been added to the Project window in DatabaseSpy 2012. One setting in DatabaseSpy allows users to automatically add new files to DatabaseSpy projects as they are saved. When this setting activated, it can be very easy to add numerous SQL queries to a DatabaseSpy project in a short time. The new search functionality will help users find files in large, complex DatabaseSpy projects more easily.
What’s new in DatabaseSpy 2011r2?
Advanced Charts in DatabaseSpy - Data sets often require special chart styles to create the most accurate and vivid graphical representation. DatabaseSpy 2011r2 Enterprise Edition extends charting functionality introduced in v2011, supporting the new advanced chart types (Stacked Bar charts, Area charts, Stacked Area charts, Candlestick charts and more.
What’s new in DatabaseSpy 2011?
Charts in DatabaseSpy
A graphical representation of data in a chart is much more vivid and communicates meaning more quickly than tables of numeric data. DatabaseSpy 2011 Enterprise Edition supports an entirely new set of charting features to graphically represent SQL query results. A new link in the Results window toolbar opens the Chart Selection dialog to initiate data charting. The following chart types are available to provide the most appropriate representation of various data sets:
Line charts
2D and 3D bar charts
2D and 3D pie charts
Round gauge and bar gauge charts
Numerous customization options are available for each chart type, including control of foreground and background colors, definition of axis ranges and labels, control of fonts colors and sizes, and more. DatabaseSpy 2011 charts may be exported to image files in .png, .bmp, .gif, or .jpg files in sizes specified by the user Exported charts can be used to create eye-catching visual elements to highlight reports of all types. Customized chart settings can be saved in settings files and loaded later for reuse. Charts can be generated based on relational data, or on calculations performed in SQL statements.
