XMLSpy 2008, the XML editor and IDE, includes several important new features, including support for Microsoft® PowerPoint® files, as well as the W3C standards XInclude and XPointer.

New features in Altova XMLSpy 2008 include:

• Support for working with XML in Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 files - allows users to open PPTX files, edit the data, add new files and folders, remove files, and so on. (Enterprise Edtion Only)
• Data editing support in the Database Query window - now allows users to edit database data inside the window, then commit changes back to the database.
• Support for XPath evaluation in multiple files - supports calculating the results of XPath expressions across multiple files simultaneously.
• Support for XInclude and XPointer - allows users to easily build large XML instances from multiple smaller documents.
• Two-step XSL:FO transformation - allows developers to complete XSL:FO transformations from XML to PDF in two steps, enabling the use of more advanced XSLT engines.

What’s new in Altova XMLSpy 2007 Release 3?

• Extended database functionality – XMLSpy 2007r3 provides a new quick connect wizard and database query window, allowing users to easily connect to all major databases, view the structure of their databases, and query them from within XMLSpy using SQL or SQL/XML. Additional new functionality (reserved for IBM DB2 9 in this release) enables the direct execution of XQuery statements against databases as well as the ability to register XML Schemas and open and edit XML content in databases
• Microsoft Office 2007 Open XML support – With support for the burgeoning Office Open XML standard, XMLSpy 2007r3 can now extract, edit, and transform XML data saved in the new Microsoft Office 2007 default document format. Entry helpers are included for editing data in Word and Excel files, and users can execute XSLT and XQuery transformations on the data, giving them a head start in developing applications that utilize and process what is sure to become the predominant business data format
• Comprehensive cascading stylesheet (CSS) editor – While the XMLSpy advanced text view has always supported editing cascading stylesheet (CSS) files, it is now a full featured CSS editor with syntax coloring, context-sensitive entry helper windows and drop-down menus, and screen tips. Entry helpers provide available CSS properties, HTML elements, and a CSS outline with defined stylesheet rules and classes
• Enhanced XML Schema and WSDL documentation – XMLSpy’s capabilities for documenting XML Schemas and Web service description language (WSDL) files now provide the ability to save files in rich text format (RTF) and create diagrams in enhanced meta-file (EMF) format – a vector graphics format with enhanced zooming and printing capabilities
• XSLT 1.0 profiler – Now, in addition to support for XSLT 2.0 and XQuery, XMLSpy 2007r3 allows profiling XSLT 1.0 code. With the XSLT 1.0 profiler, users are able monitor and record detailed metrics for each processing instruction executed during an XSLT transformation to help quickly identify and eliminate bottlenecks

If you wish to receive priority technical support beyond that date and receive software updates throughout the year, you need to purchase a "Support and Maintenance Package (SMP)" for your software. The Support & Maintenance Package is available in a one- or two-year plan. Please note that you can only add Support and Maintenance Package (SMP) to a product at the time you purchase the license (or up to 30 Days after you purchase).

Services included:

Priority Technical Support - Priority Technical Support is provided via a Web-based support form. The publisher will respond within 1-2 business days during European or US business hours (MO-FR, 8am UTC - 10pm UTC, Austrian and US holidays excluded).

Free Minor & Major Versions - You will receive all maintenance releases and major software versions that are released during your Support Period. Updates that you receive cover the specific edition of the product that you have purchased and typically include many additional features.

Maintenance - During the Support Period you may also report any software problem or error using the same support process described above. If the publisher determines that a reported reproducible material error in the software exists and significantly impairs the usability and utility of the software, the publisher agrees to use reasonable commercial efforts to correct or provide a usable work-around solution in an upcoming maintenance release or update, which is made available at certain times at the publisher's sole discretion.

Support Period

The Support & Maintenance Package that is currently offered with products covers the product for which it is being purchased for a period of either one or two years. The support period begins on the day you purchase the product license and extends for a period of exactly 12 or 24 months, depending on whether you purchase the one- or two-year option. SMP may be purchased at the time you purchase a product license and during the 30 day period immediately thereafter. You may also renew an existing SMP for an additional one- or two-year period. During the Support Period, you will receive Support & Maintenance services from the publisher as defined in section "6. SUPPORT & MAINTENANCE" in the end-user license agreement ("EULA") or in the SMP Terms of Use, as applicable.
