Aurigma Image Uploader by Aurigma

An easy and convenient way to add Image uploading functionality to your site. Image Uploader is an ActiveX control for IE which is intended for user-friendly uploading images and other files. An intuitive user interface, customizable appearance, memory-friendly even for huge uploads, basic imaging capabilities (can send up to 3 thumbnails) - all make Image Uploader the ideal uploading solution for digital photo print ordering sites and other ones where uploading multiple files with unexperienced users is important.

Image Uploader is a client-side ActiveX control which allows you to upload and navigate through the images on a client computer, make basic image processing (generate thumbnails, rotate), edit descriptions of images and then upload them to a server. It dramatically increases the efficiency of uploading images to a server compared to standard input type='file' elements. It can also upload up to 3 thumbnails, so you need not generate them on the server. Non-image files can also be uploaded. It retrieves data from the server in standard multipart/form-data format, so files can be handled by any script or platform: ASP, ASP.NET, Perl, PHP, ColdFusion, JSP, etc.

Main Features:

Easy navigation through the folders on your computer. Displays thumbnails for the pictures (JPEG, TIFF, PSD, WBMP, BMP, and GIF). You can also switch between different views: thumbnails, details, list, and icons

Memory friendly even for huge numbers of uploaded files

Allow both multiple and single file selection

Automatically tracks changes in file system (folder content)

Preview thumbnails are taken from EXIF if possible (extremely fast)

Files can be uploaded in separate requests; this means that if upload process was interrupted, user will be able to resume it. They will not have to upload files which already have been uploaded

Automatic recovery of upload if connection is broken

Support of non-image files

Generating up to three thumbnails of different sizes (on client-side)

Rotating of images in 90 degree increments (on client-side)

Adding descriptions to each file

Displaying a progress bar during file upload

Ability to display quality meter that allows user to estimate a maximum acceptable print format

What's New in Aurigma Image Uploader ActiveX V5?

Both ActiveX and Java version improvements

Compression of files is now available, making Image Uploader even more bandwidth-friendly.

POST request format is now customizable to seamlessly integrate with CMSs, blogging systems, etc.

Progress bar placement behavior changed for the Advanced Details view. Now if you upload a single image, the progress bar appears in the list item of that specific image and not in the list item allotted specifically for progress indication.

Instant upload has been introduced for the Advanced Details view. You can specify that the upload start immediately after you drag the file into the upload pane.

You can now specify background image to display in the Advanced Details view.

Minimum file count for upload: if specified, the upload won’t start unless the minimum allowed amount of files are selected for upload.

Upload file list feature has been implemented. You can save\load\delete lists of files to be uploaded.

CMYK image upload restriction is now available. You can deny upload of CMYK images and show a relevant notification to the user each time they attempt uploads of CMYK images.

New upload control events added: PackageBeforeUpload, PackageError, PackageComplete and PackageProgress.

On-hover tooltips now can be displayed individually for the description of a file and for the line that prompts user to edit said description.

More MIME types are now recoginised from file extensions.

showNonemptyResponse - specify whether to display server response. This property is an additional debugging facility.

ActiveX Version Improvements

Internet Explorer 7 compatibility.

New view mode for the upload pane called advanced details list. It displays images as detailed list, displays its thumbnail, and show progress bar during the upload directly in the upload pane. See the View Modes topic for more details.

Ability to upload several files simultaneously (several concurrent HTTP connections are established). See the Uploading Files Sequentially And Concurrently topic for more details.

Ability to upload more than three thumbnails per one image file. See the Rotating, Resizing, and Optimizing Images topic for more details.

Ability to upload files to several URLs in the same upload session. For example, if you have two storage servers, you can set two URLs that will alternate each other for each POST request in the upload session.

Ability to replace Image Uploader buttons by specified images (inside Image Uploader GUI rather than in HTML). See the Customizing Buttons topic for more details.

Ability to draw text watermark on each uploaded thumbnail. You can configure the text string, font, color, opacity, position, background color, and some other settings. See the Adding Watermarks topic for more details.

Ability to sort items in the upload list (either manually with drag-and-drop operation or using menu). This way now the user can specify the sequence files will be uploaded with.

Ability to delete files after the upload completion. A dialog confirming that the user wants to delete files to the Recycle Bin is displayed.

Ability to rotate multiple items from the upload list with a single click.

Ability to upload entire folders in addition to separate files.

Ability to navigate to arbitrary folder with the GoToFolder method.

Ability to work with IPTC fields in the same manner as with EXIF.

Ability to set limitation for minimum allowed file size.

Automatic photo rotate if it has wrong orientation (based on EXIF information stored in the photo).

Now ZIP files are not ignored when a total folder added to the upload list (using Add Folders button).

Image resolution now is preserved in thumbnails. NoteDo not confuse image resolution with image dimensions.

Length limitation for the FileMask property is eliminated.

Limitation for the MaxTotalFileSize property now is increased to maximum number that 32-bit value can hold (i.e. 4294967296).

Rotation is remembered if the item is rotated in the folder pane and dragged to the upload pane.

Behavior changes:

No thumbnails are uploaded now by default. Only original file is uploaded unless you override it by modifying appropriate properties (such as UploadThumbnail1FitMode, etc).

Full file path no longer sent to the server when when uploading a file name. It sends only the name of the file, but does not send folder structure. The FileName_I cannot be used to retrieve full path anymore as well. If an ability to extract full path is critical to you, you should order a private label version.
