What's new in 2006?
SpyWorks V8.0 represents a major fork in development of the package. As such, it can be installed on the same system with version V7.1. It contains a completely new set of components and a separate subclassing/hook engine.
Major changes are as follows:
- Anti-spyware technology. These changes are designed to prevent the SpyWorks components from being incorrectly identified as Spyware. This takes two forms: first, the new subclassing and hook controls have built in restrictions that make them unable to intercept keystrokes from certain windows (such as text boxes used to capture passwords) making the components less useful to spyware authors. Second, the components have been renamed to not include the word "spy" or "spyworks" because these were causing confusion among end-users
- SpyWorks V8.0 has improved handling of Windows hooks, particularly with regard to recovery when applications crash
- SpyWorks V8.0 does not include a light edition of the NT Service toolkit. This change was made because the full toolkit is included with the Universal COM product.
Desaware Universal COM is comprised of nine different Desaware COM, ActiveX and .NET products (SpyWorks Professional; NT Service Toolkit COM; StorageTools; VersionStamper; Event Log Toolkit; Custom Control Factory; CCF Cursors and File Property Component.).
In addition to the products themselves, the source code for each of the individual products is included in the Desaware Universal COM at no additional cost. Nine products, 51 individual controls and libraries, and more than 1,000,000 lines of code.
Desawares' Universal COM is a comprehensive suite of components for OCX and ActiveX solution providers which contains the source code for all of the individual products in the collection. Within the products of this suite are the resources to:
- Escape DLL Hell! Detect incompatible DLLs, VBXs and OCXs which when copied into your program can disable it or prevent it from loading. VersionStamper
- Create Windows services in moments with almost every feature available to C++ services. NT Service Toolkit COM
- Store virtually any data type without the complexity and overhead of a database. StorageTools
- Expose low levels functions of visual studio such as windows and keyboard hooks, subclassing, cross process memory access and function exporting. SpyWorks Professional
