eDocEngine Overview
Gnostice eDocEngine is a comprehensive, generic, 100% VCL electronic document creation component suite for Borland® Delphi™ and Borland® C++Builder™.
eDocEngine currently supports the creation of documents in PDF, RTF, HTML, XHTML, EXCEL, TEXT, CSV, Quattro Pro, LOTUS 1-2-3, DIF, SYLK, TIFF, PNG, SVG (XML based vector graphics), JPEG, GIF, BMP, EMF and WMF formats.
Why use Gnostice eDocEngine as your electronic document creation component?
Using eDocEngine to create and deliver information electronically
eDocEngine provides VCL components for the creation of the supported document formats. The developer can place the components on a Form or DataModule, set properties to customize the output and then call methods to insert Text, draw Shapes, Charts and Images, and render Metafiles. The final output can be received in a memory stream or a disk file. The screen shots show the creation of a new PDF document with some text and a metafile rendered. The vector graphics in the metafile are retained as vector graphics in the PDF document ensuring sharp and light weight PDF documents, even when scaled to much larger page sizes.
Power to control and the accuracy to satisfy any document creation need
eDocEngine provides an extensive set of drawing methods to enable developers to create the rich and precise electronic documents that business applications demand. Over the standard drawing methods, eDocEngine also provides a generic Canvas (HDC) handle that is 100% compatible with TCanvas and Windows® drawing functions. With the generic Canvas feature you can include any type of content and render any third-party control that can draw itself to a Canvas. The Canvas handle is provided for all supported document formats!
Native support for enhanced visual representations of information
eDocEngine provides more than just drawing primitives that draw simple text, images and shapes. To simplify the developer’s task, eDocEngine provides Table and Grid drawing, laying out text as Paragraphs by setting left and right indents, and placing memos in boxes wherever needed. These features really take the load off the developer by getting content formatted easily and in enhanced presentation quality.
One language and yet no compromises
All document engines of eDocEngine support a vast set of common properties and methods and the classes are layered in such a way that efficient OOP techniques can be applied to create documents in multiple formats with a single code base. Yet developers need not make any compromises when they need to implement an advanced feature supported in a particular document format such as PDF, RTF or HTML. Advanced features unique to each document format are supported by additional properties and methods of that engine. You can implement encryption, encoding, font embedding and font sub-setting in PDF documents, and place content in cells, set the format of cells and start a new Worksheet in Excel documents. No compromises!
Extensible architecture
With a well laid out extensible architecture, eDocEngine naturally lends itself to continual development and enhancement. New document formats and features can easily be supported just by tapping at the appropriate layer of the eDocEngine architecture. New data exporting components can be implemented for new reporting tools with the flexible and highly configurable Report Export interface architecture.
eDocEngine in workflow scenarios
eDocEngine supports key features necessary for implementing business workflow functions. Created documents can be automatically emailed to specified recipients or be opened to view. eDocEngine also supports the setting of presentation features to created PDF, HTML and XHTML documents. With the presentation features documents can be opened automatically after creation and set to scroll and show page by page with special transition and scroll effects.
PDFtoolkit Overview
Gnostice PDFtoolkit is a powerful component set for Borland® Delphi™ and Borland® C++Builder™ to manage, manipulate, enhance PDF documents and process PDF eForms.
PDFtoolkit supports filling and reading of PDF forms, compressing, securing, appending and merging of multiple PDF documents, stamping, building Table of Contents, setting bookmarks, and many more functions that can be performed on PDF documents. PDFtoolkit operates on existing PDF documents and can even create new ones by extracting pages from existing documents. With the help of PDFtoolkit powerful PDF document management functions can be performed from within the business applications, making the applications more efficient and independent of external software.
Why use Gnostice PDFtoolkit?
Using PDFtoolkit to manage PDF documents from within your application
PDFtoolkit provides VCL components to link to the PDF documents that need to be managed. The developer can place the PDFDocument component on a Form or DataModule, set properties and then call methods to fill or read form values, compress, secure by setting password, append or merge multiple PDF documents, rubber stamp as ‘Confidential’, ‘Draft’, etc, add bookmarks and perform many more tasks related to PDF. The final output can be received in a memory stream or a disk file. The screen shot on the left shows how three existing PDF documents can be opened, merged, rubber stamped, secured with a password and saved to disk as one document. The screen shot on the right shows the new, merged PDF document.
Conveniently manage PDF documents with the extensive set of functions
PDFtoolkit supports a whole range of PDF document management and manipulation functions that enable a developer to implement all PDF management tasks right with in the application. Following is a partial list of the functions supported:
Once the operations are performed by calling any of the functions the document can be encrypted with owner and user password, and written to disk or memory in compressed or uncompressed form. Access permissions can also be set on the user password to allow or disallow printing, copying of text and graphics, modifying of document and so on. PDFtoolkit also handles encrypted PDF documents when appropriate passwords are provided; taking care to allow only the operations the user is permitted to perform. If the owner password is provided then all operations are allowed.
Process PDF forms (or AcroForms)
The form processing feature of PDFtoolkit enables filling and reading of form data from PDF forms or AcroForms. PDFtoolkit can be queried for a list of the form fields present in the supplied PDF document then values can be set for each field, accessing the field by name or index, and finally a new PDF document can be written out with all the fields filled in place! Field values from filled PDF forms can be extracted, again by just providing a source PDF document and a string list to store the read fields and values. The PDF field types currently supported are Button Fields [Checkboxes and Radio Buttons], Text Fields and Choice Fields.
Make PDF documents more interesting and easy to use
PDFtoolkit supports the association of pages with thumbnail images that users can easily relate to, just by specifying the page number and the image to associate the page with. PDF documents can be made easier to navigate and browse by adding new or editing existing bookmarks or Table of Contents elements. Physical markings can be underlaid or overlaid as watermarks or stampings to designate a document for specific uses and restrictions, such as “Draft” or “Confidential”. Markings can contain text or images, or both. You can even combine multiple underlay/overlay markings to create composite markings.
