What's new in V1.3?

  • NavigationContainer control introduced to simplify integrating an Eyefinder layout into your forms
  • Office 2007 look and feel is now supported and default
  • All text is now rendered with GDI when running under .NET 2.0
  • When AllowDrop is set to true for the NavigationBar, dragging over a pane tab will select that pane
  • Renderer property exposed on DesktopAlert

Overview:

Eyefinder is a powerful presentation-layer component that is designed to aid navigation through different types of data. Collapsible buttons represent different navigation modes, and when selected, child controls are exposed to facilitate the navigation mode chosen. Alternatively, the control can be used to simply switch between visible child controls, in much the same way as a tabcontrol does only with a different style of tabs.

Full design-time support is included of course, and working with the control at design time is much the same as working with it at runtime. As the navigation panes are selected, the client area of the control is updated to show their contents. This client area is a standard container control and can be used to host any type of child controls.

Also packaged with the navigation bar is HeaderControl, a container control that draws one of two header styles above the client area. The headers are a great way of separating functionally different areas of your user interface, while drawing in a consistent manner with the rest of the Eyefinder package.

This set of controls is designed to help you make your application mimic the appearance of the Microsoft Outlook 2003 user interface. By using them you can help your customers feel at home in your product.

Features:

Eyefinder offers a great range of features designed to help you create a great-looking interface like that of recent Microsoft products in minutes.

Navigation Bar and Presentation

  • Microsoft Office 2003 style rendering for a cutting-edge look and feel
  • Pluggable renderer support means complete customisation is easy
  • Buttons can be collapsed in to a tray increasing real estate in the client area
  • Chevron menu provides access to hidden buttons and customisation features
  • Header and button fonts can be fully customised
  • Support for all common image sizes on buttons and in the tray
  • Full and rich designer support means in-place editing with no collection editor
  • Additional control provides access to the professional-looking header styles to separate areas of your interface

All controls fully support right-to-left layout for languages that demand it.

Keyboard accessibility is supported via keyboard mnemonics.

Document presentation control allows you to shift the focus on to the principal display in your application, e.g. an email or other document by making it appear lifted from the rest of the page.

Desktop Alerts

  • Completely support the functionality of the Outlook 2003 alerts
  • Support transitions, to avoid distracting the user
  • Fully extendable via inheritance to completely customize the layout and drawing of individual alerts
  • An alert queue ensures that no matter how fast you load alerts, they are displayed in a predictable way to the user

Designer Support

Configuring the Eyefinder controls at design time is as simple as using them at runtime. When you drop the NavigationBar control on your form from the toolbox all it takes is a couple of clicks and you're already adding child controls and configuring the appearance of navigation panes. Although navigation panes support two image properties, LargeImage and SmallImage, only LargeImage is required for image support. If there is no SmallImage present the large image is scaled automatically.

Once the control has navigation panes, it acts almost like the familiar Windows Forms TabControl - a different container control is displayed depending on which tab (or navigation pane) is selected. That container control can be used just like any other.

Different elements in your form can be separated using the simple HeaderControl control. It supports the two styles of header separator seem in Outlook 2003, and repositions any child elements automatically.

The DesktopAlert component is fully configurable at design time, and queueing up alerts at runtime can be achieved with one simple line of code.
