Flexible and professional workflow automation. FileScan Tool Pro is a workflow-management application for the Microsoft Windows platform. It creates scheduled, hotfolder, ftp or database triggered workflows using the flowchart-style interface. You can choose from over 70 commands from categories like (Secure) FTP, MAIL, DATABASE, FILE, WINDOWS, TOOLS etc. Workflows are executed by dedicated daemons which can run from the systemtray or as a service. You can have up to 30-daemons depending on your needs. Use the FST-Pro Plugin SDK to create your own plugins.
FileScan Tool Pro runs on the Microsoft Windows platform and has a modular architecture which uses external plugins (dll's) to add functionality. Beside a number of built-in plugins which can control the workflow and/or perform database functionality, these external plugins make up the bulk of all functionality. Because of this modular architecture it's very easy to add new or update existing functionality without having to change the core of the program.
Using the 'Plugin SDK' (VB6 project) users can even create their own plugins. All workflows and settings are managed using the 'Configuration Manager'. With this manager it is also possible to view logfiles in realtime and to run search-queries to quickly identify potential errors in your workflow. The 'Advanced Search' option can run a search on all available logfiles, sort and display the results in a flowchart-style manner. Problems in the workflow are then easily marked and can be looked into in more detail.
Daemons
The actual processing of all workflows is done by so-called 'Daemons'. The standard version has 10-daemons which run independently from each other and can run from the systemtray, as a service or a mix of both. The multiple daemon-system allows the user to distribute the load over the available daemons and to separate certain workflows, making sure they do not interfere with each other.
Workflow
Workflow commands are executed in chronological order but using the 'OnCondition' command you can insert 'conditional branching' in a workflow which will determine the direction of the flow based on the outcome of a specific condition. Workflows can be marked 'Shared' in which case they can be used in all separate Daemons and workflows can also be marked 'Standby' in which case they will not start 'on their own'. Standby workflows are typically used as subroutines which can be called from within other workflows. So called 'Internal Variables' are an imported feature of FileScan Tool Pro. These are system variables which give the user all sorts of information about the file currently being processed, date, time etc. and can even be used to run 'inline' string-functions, regular-expressions, mathematical-functions etc. Users can also add 'UserDefined Variables' which can be used anywhere in the workflows and are a valuable aid in making the workflows more readable.
FST-Pro supports regular-expression which, for instance, can be used to setup very precise filename-filters when using a hotfolder-triggered workflow. Because of the many features and extensive functionality FST-Pro can be used to create very simple workflows for simple file-handling to very complex workflows to streamline and control your entire data-flow.
