Janus GridEX anilkumar1593 [India] 16-Jul-2014 13:05:42

I have two Janus grids with empty rows.

I have added 1 new row in grid 1
Pasted the newly added row into grid 2
After that if I check below properties on grid 2
- gridEX.DataSource getting total rows count as 1
- gridEX.GetDataRows() getting total rows as 1

Than after added new row into grid 2. In this case ideally gridEX.DataSource and gridEX.GetDataRows() should return2 rows, but gridEX.GetDataRows() returning 1 and gridEX.DataSource returning 2 rows.

After adding second row into grid 2 I am trying to select the newly added row by using below code
gridEX.SelectedItems.Add(1);

Here I am getting exception as

Value cannot be null.
Janus.Windows.GridEX.v3
at Janus.Windows.GridEX.GridEX.s(Int32 )
at Janus.Windows.GridEX.GridEXSelectedItemCollection.Add(Int32 position)

It might be because of gridEX not having the newly added row in it Roottable

I am getting this exception only if I paste the row on empty grid and trying to add new record.

What could be the problem and how I can fix this issue.

Hi Support Forum,
I have a client who is using Janus Grid ex 2000a on Windows 2000 server. Now my client wants to move the entire application to Windows 2008 R2 32 Bit environment.
Now we are facing the problem, to deploy the Janus GridEx 2000a or b on to the new windows 2008 server, it is giving dispatcher error and even the Setup not working properly.

My Question is Will JanusGrdEx200a Or Janus GridEx200b is compatible with Windows 2008 R2 32 Bit or Not.
Please provide me the solution if it is compatible on the above said servers.

Thanks & Regards,

I have a normal bound grid with a event for Loading Row. I have setup a normal table adapter that will retrieve 1 records for the table. Why does it go into the Loading Row 2 times.

Also if I wanted to retrieve 10 records from the table then Why does it go into the Loading Row 11 times?? I would like to know if this is a setting in Janus Winforms to not go into the Loading Row an extra time for retrieval of the table.

Hello,
I am using Janus grid control and I have a column in my data grid which contains date in long date format. That is eg: "14:00 14/03/2013". This had been done for project requirement. Now I have to apply filter to this column and in the drop down for this column the text come as "00:00 12/02/2013", "00:00 14/03/2013" etc. Where as I want date to come as a short date. Is there any way where I can remove the time information from the text displayed in the filter combobox and just display the date, where as in the back ground I do comparison using the original value. Also let me know if there is a way to bind date picker with the filter combobox

Hi,
I am not sure exactly what you are trying to do. However most of the methods are available within code. For instance... (from the xxx.janusys.com/controls/ site )
Private Sub Form_Load()
Dim col As JSColumn
Adodc1.CommandType = adCmdText
Adodc1.RecordSource = "SELECT [Date Ordered] FROM TblJobs"
Adodc1.Refresh
With GridEX1
.AutomaticSort = True
.RecordNavigator = True
Set .ADORecordset = Adodc1.Recordset
With .Columns("Date Ordered")
.Width = 4000
.Format = "dd-mmm-yy HH:mm"
.SortType = jgexSortTypeDateTime
End With
Set col = .Columns.Add("Date Month", jgexText, Key:="DateMonth")
col.FetchData = True
col.Visible = False
.Groups.Add col.Index, jgexSortAscending
.RefreshGroups allcollapsed:=True
End With

End Sub

While loading the values to the grid, I have sorted based on Filesize desc. When I try to group with some other column like file extension..once I dragged the column to group, grouping done perfectly. But the filesize sorting was lost.

I want to maintain the sorting based on filesize after grouping.

Kindly let me know if there any way to achieve this.

Is there a hot fix out for this issue in Janus Version 4?

Hi,
You do not provide very much detail, however can you not either:
1) ensure that all your data is either CAT01 or cat01 ( have your application convert the data to upper or lower case as part of the validation) and then set the 'data member' and 'key' in the grid to match, or
2) case the data to upper or lower case as it is being read in from the database

I am using janus grid version 1.1.1009.0 and .net framework 1.1. Dataset is binded to the grid. there are 4 date field column(type-system.datetime, format string :dd-mmm-yyyy,Edittype - calendar drop down) in the grid which displays date in the format dd-MMM-yyyy. MMM alpha month is displaying the month as per the browser language(polish, arabic, english, french months) choosed when the page loads. After saving anything in the grid then it always shows the date in the format dd-MMM-yyyy with MMM as english months. The problem is it has to be consistent. It should be english months through out even when the page loads first time and when ever save or refresh is done. , how to restrict the grid from displaying the months in different languages ?

Hi,
You do not give much info as to whether the grid is bound or not, or the rule by which the gridrows should be exchanged, However, I had a similar problem a few years ago. I'm sorry I no longer have the code which was written in VB6. However, my answer was to create an array to match the columns. I then copied the data from Gridrow A into that array, then the data from Gridrow B into Gridrow A. Finally, copied the data from the array into Gridrow B.

Alternatively, can you use your code to sort the data on a particular value and then use the grid sort option under say the click event of a button to resort the grid.

ColPosition = 1 'GridDupes.Col
Set Col = GridDupes.Columns.ItemByPosition(ColPosition)
GridDupes.SortKeys.Clear
GridDupes.SortKeys.Add Col.Index, jgexSortAscending
ColIndex = Col.Index

When I run my application and go to the section that I implemented Janus GridEX I get 2 popups saying I am using a Trail Version. One is an unauthorized copy of Janus GridEX control and the other is of Janus UIPanelManager. I have implemented Janus elsewhere and do not receive these. The Janus references I added to this project are from the same source as the references added in the other one. I have confirmed I have the full version of Janus on my machine and have tried building the solution in multiple places. Are there any further ways to troubleshoot this?

Janus GridEX and winodws 7 freezes mfiggins [Australia] 26-Nov-2012 08:53:00

We have an old VB6 application using the Janus GridEx 2000 controls.

We have recently been testing our application on Windows 7 64 bit environment and found the application freezing when resizing grids.

It seems when the grid allows row resizing this causes the issue. So we have had to disable the row sizing on grids, which is not really best solution.
are you aware of any issues with windows 7 and grids causing VB6application freezes?

GridEX crashes when choosing a condition operator hamz1182 [Mauritius] 13-Sep-2012 13:06:01

I have a GridEX on a Windows form which is bound to a typed datatable. The datatable is auto refreshed every minute with a timer. The grid crashes when i proceed as follows :
1) Launch the windows form containing the grid.
2) When the grid is filled with data, i apply a filter on one of the columns. I.e. I write something in the filter area of a column. The rows are filtered correctly.
3) Then I click on the Filter condition button (the one which opens a little form with options like Begin with, Ends with, etc...).
4) I leave that little form open till the auto-refresh kicks in.
5) As soon as the refresh is complete, I click on one of the options on the little form (Ex. Ends with). This action causes the grid to crash.

I only get a message like "Object reference not set...". This message originates from inside the GridEx, not my code. So i can't debug it.

If i don't clear the rows in my datatable before the refresh, the problem does not occur.

Any solutions?

Is there a way to close that little form (conditions operator form with options like Begin with, Ends with, etc...) using VB.NET code ??

If i'm able to close that form, then no one would be able to click on it's options during the auto refresh and grid won't crash.

I want to select two set of rows with 5 record each.

I have selected the first 5 rows using shift+ arrow key.But now if i have to select the next 5 rows , i have to use control key and either use mouse click on space bar one by one on ech row.I can't select the new 5 rows in one go.

Is there any way we can select the next 5 row in one go rather than clicking it one by one.

I think you have the problem with the databinding .You must always bind a binig surce to your grid

like follows :

Dim ds As New DataSet
Dim DV As New DataView
Dim BS As New BindingSource

DV.Table = ds.tables(0)
BS.DataSource = DV
GridEX1.DataSource = BS
Let me know if you did it right at you still have this problem :)

My app works fine running under source code from VB6, but the compiled code doesn't display anything in the GridEX grid.
(Windows 7, 32 bits). I've tried compatibility mode, (W2K, XP-SP2, XP-SP3, NT even), and no luck.

I'm at a loss here, do I just remove GridEX and replace it with something else, at least unti lI convert the app to .NET?

A filter created in code won't appear in the filter row. If you want to see the filter in the filter row, move to the filter row, edit the cells using SetValue and call UpdateData to apply the filter. i.e.

Hi!

We're using Janus GridEx 2000 with a legacy application. Now some users who are using Windows 7 are having problems with grids being disabled. I figure this is because Gridex2000 lacks Windows 7 support. Can you confirm if this is so? Is there possibly a patch that will help our Windows 7 users?

Hello there,

I run your query with one of the authors of the Janus GridEx 2000 and they sent this information regarding the problem you mentioned:

===

We haven’t heard of a problem like the one you describe. The only problem we have seen (that could be related to the one you have) with the GridEX control working under vista or windows 7 is that some changes related to security in ADO may affect your application when working under these OS. For instance, prior to vista it wasn’t required to set the parameter "Persist Security Info=True" to a connection string and applications running under previous versions of windows were working correctly without such setting but now an error is thrown under vista if such parameter isn’t set. In addition to this, you may try running your application using windows 7 compatibility mode

I hope it helps.

Hi All

I have a grid that when it loads, the grids focus is always at the bottom of the grid i.e. the vertical scrollbar is at the bottom.
The grid is sorted by date descending and the sort is correct but it is not setting focus to the top of the grid as it does with all my other grids, and the user therefore has to scroll to the top.
Is there a setting, or programmatically, to always set focus to the top (what has been selected as the sort order)

I've started to have a very strange problem with VB6 and Gridex20.

The problem is that the grid behaves as it always has (the app has been around for 10 years) when running in the development environment or when the .exe is running on the development machine.

if I take the .exe to another machine then only two columns are displayed and any attempt to interact with the incorectly populated grid causes the application to crash.

If anyone can shed any light on this it would be greately appreciated.

DataGridView header = PsLang_IdLang where GridEX header = Ps Lang Id Lang.
More over, I am loosing the underscore (_) symbol and spacing is introduced between each "word".
What is the reason and how can it be solved ?

Hi; I am trying to support drag drop of rows in a janus grid; and automatic scrolling of my grid when the dragging moves over the bottom or top ( columnheaders ) of the grid.
I found following.
The bottompart was easy :
private void ListDataGrid_DragOver(object sender, DragEventArgs e)
{
e.Effect = DragDropEffects.Move;
Cronos.UI.Win.Controls.CronosDataGrid grid = this.ListDataGrid;

if (e.Y >= PointToScreen(new Point(grid.Location.X + grid.Width, grid.Location.Y + grid.Height)).Y - 10){
grid.FirstRow += 1;

}

Because we are allowing for Filters above the columnheaders, the position (x,y) of these columnheaders is not as easily retrieved.
Is there any way to calculated the x y screen coordinates of the columnheaders or of the grid.GetRow(0), so that I Could write :

headersY = .....;
if (e.Y < headersY)
grid.FirstRow -= 1;

ps : we are using Janus Win Forms 3.0

- I use GridEX.FullyLoaded for determining if I have to call the LoadEntireRecordset method.
On which factors it depends whether grid loads all data immediately or only piece by piece on demand.
e.g. much records, or a slow connection to the database ...

- what is the best way binding data on the grid. actually I user the following:

.CursorLocation = jgexUseClient
.DatabaseName = Replace(CONNECTION_ODBC, "ODBC;", "")
.LockType = jgexLockOptimistic
.RecordsetType = jgexRSADOKeyset
.RecordSource = DBEngine(0)(0).QueryDefs("defaultQuery").SQL

In MSAccess 2003, I use a Janus Grid 2000. I use the GridEx1_ColumnHeaderClick event, because after the user changes the sort order, I want to jump always to the first real row of the grid (not grouping rows, but the first data row). For this, I use the Row property. I doesn't work, if I do that within the Event procedure. However, if I wait a little, say 50 ms (with the help of a timer), then it works perfectly. This lets me think that at the time of ColumnHeaderClick event procedure, the sorting hat not completed yet. I am very unhappy using a timer, because how can I know which is the correct time? Would 50 ms be enough for a grid record source with 100'000 records, for example? Isn't it possible to get some callback at the correct point of time, that is when the sorting has completed (instead when the user presses the column header)? Or what else could be done to have a good solution?

We need to implement Automated Testing for one of the products that implements the Janus Grid Tree.

The automation tools like QTP, Silk or Rational normally identifies the objects and tree branches each as independent objects that help automation.
However the Janus tree Grid considers the entire tree as one object and hence overall does not support automated testing (other then using screen co-ordinates)?

Can anyone throw some light on this?

It seems to me that I need to create a JSStyle object, add it to the grid's collection of style objects, then use that style object fo rthe row. But I tried somehting like that, and it did not work.

I know this may be a little late but then if it does not help yourself then I hope it may help someone else...

In order to change the colour of a row then the FormattingRow method should be called in order to intercept the formatting of each displayed row. Note the use of displayed row as this is only for the rows that are visible to the user and not all rows in the datagrid as this is a way of only formatting the rows that matter.

The following code is a sample of the code that should be used to format the row depending on the value of a particular cell:

Private Sub GridEX2_FormattingRow(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As Janus.Windows.GridEX.RowLoadEventArgs) Handles GridEX2.FormattingRow
Dim rowCol As New Janus.Windows.GridEX.GridEXFormatStyle

rowCol.BackColor = Color.Gray
rowCol.ForeColor = Color.DarkGray
If e.Row.Cells("abc").Value = "testValue" Then
e.Row.RowStyle = rowCol
End If
End Sub

In order to change the formatting of a single cell then just change the following:
e.Row.RowStyle = rowCol
to:
e.Row.Cells("abc").FormatStyle = rowCol

Hope this helps someone and if so then please let me know.

Regards,
Peter

One of the fields that I retrieve from an Oracle database is a concatenated string field delimited by a carriage return+ new line ASCII (CHR (10) || CHR (13)).
Exp:'first' || CHR (10) || CHR (13) || 'second'.......
The corresponding column in the gridEx replaces the two ASCII characters with two squares and then continues the suppose to be a second line in the first line as well.
The maxLine of the column is 2.
Isn't there a way to simulate a crlf in the gridEx column?
Thanks.

I'm using the GridEX for VB6, and I'm trying to load a drop down column dynamically from the values in another grid. For Example, let's say I have the strings "123" and "456" in column X of Grid1. After updating grid1, I want to load a drop down column in Grid2 with the values "123" and "456" as the display values and use numeric values in column A of Grid1 as the index values for the drop down in Grid1. When the user goes back and adds a new row to Grid1, the drop down in Grid2 will be updated with the new values. Deleting from Grid1 will delete a value from the drop down.

I thought I had all this working properly. For some unknown reason, I'm having a problem now. After entering 2 rows in Grid1 and changing focus to Grid1, one of the values in the drop down is being selected by default. using my example above, after entering the first two rows in Grid1 and clicking on Grid2, the value "456" shows up. While this might not appear to be a terrible problem, there are some updates to columns that are not being made after the the grid is updated.

We have developed an application in .net with the gridex control. ON the developer machine we are linked to an SQL 2000 dataabse and it works fine. However, when we set up and connect to a sql 2005 Expres database any time we click on a grid the application hangs and we get a not responding message for a while. It eventually works until you click on the grid again. Are there any know issues with connecting to sql2005 express?

How can i associate particular rows to particular icons in an imagelist at runtime? Currently i have the following lines

Private Sub GridEX1_FormattingRow(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As Janus.Windows.GridEX.RowLoadEventArgs) Handles GridEX1.FormattingRow
e.Row.Cells("Icon").ImageKey = file 'file is a changing value which is unique to a row, an image with the same key would have already been added to the imagelist
End Sub

When i run the application however, the system is replacing icons for all the previous rows with the icon of the last row, how can i make the grid hold all the previous icons correctly?

The Janus GridEX 2000b is being used in our product, named OMagic, which is an application written in Visual Basic 6. We are located in Turkey and sell OMagic to call centers here in Turkey. One of our customers now operates in Russia. To my customer in Russia I gave a compiled version of OMagic, though the Cyrillic characters do not display right in the grid. They are replaced with junk characters.

A few more facts which may be of interest:

The cyrillic characters are stored correctly in a MS SQL Server 2000 database. The collation of the database is SQL_Latin1_General_CP1251_CI_AS. When I read a table cell, using ADO, and display the value of that cell in a message box, the cyrillic characters are displayed correctly.

The operating system of my computer is Windows XP Professional. When I change Settings > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > the Advanced tab > Language for non-Unicode programs from Turkish to Russian, open my Visual Basic project, delete the janus grid from a form, re-drop it on the form (and of course re-enter all the properties), and re-compile the Visual Basic project, the grid displays the Cyrillic characters correctly.

There seems to be something in the .lyt file that causes the problem. After I change the regional options from Turkish to Russian, just for the heck of it, I saved the layout of the problematic grid before I deleted it from the form. Then dropped the new grid on the form. The new grid displays the characters correctly, but when I load the problematic layout, the problem comes back. Since the lyt file is binary I could not open and analyze it to see what the differences were. Another thing is that, I made sure that both layouts and the form on which they reside are absolutely the same as seen from within the Visual Basic IDE, yet the frm files are different…

Hi,

When a broken rule occurs in the Janus Datagrid it shows a yellow diamond icon with a red exclamation mark. Is there any way to change the icon to a red dot so it can be consistent with the red dots that show on the main form when there is a broken rule?

Hi all,

I'm using two GridEx and two DataTables (I'm not usiing dataset).
One GridEx is binded with the first datatable (called Companies) and has fields: "ID", "Title".
The other GridEx is binded with the second datatable (called Orders) and has fields: "ID", "CompanyID", "Product".
How can i create during run-time a dropdown combo on column CompanyID of the second GridEx having valuemember=ID and datamember=Title from the first GridEx?

I have done it using GridEx Designer but i can't do it using only code during run-time.
Please, if someone has done it, send me the code.

Thanks,

We are retrieving ~100000 records into a gridEx. Wondering how we could have the grid retrieve and display only say the top 100 rows on load and then do runtime binding as the user scrolls down the grid rows, eventually showing all the records.
Sample code would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

How can I prevent the entire row to be selected in this case?

Hi Everyone, thanks in advance for taking your effort and time to look at my issue. Here we go:

I got GridEx with two tables. One rootTable and a child table. The row in rootTable can be expanded to show the child table's record.
After the childtable row has been edited, i will repopulate the whole grid. I want to find the current row in rootTable to set the expanded property = true. Somehow, the method Grid.Find() returns false. If it is used in a single table it is working. In this case, how can i get the current row in root table and set the property expanded = true correctly.

I use a system where the default system first day of the week is monday, and sometimes I get the wrong week shown in the column. It seems that the GridEx default start day of the week is sunday. Can I use the systems default day instead? As I do in the function Format in vb by sending vbUseSystemDayOfWeek as firstdayofweek:
Format(expression[, format[, firstdayofweek[, firstweekofyear]]])

I hope this problem has a simple solution, I tried to download the help files online, but I can't find the information I need.

Janus gridex Grouping msadeghebrahimi [Japan] 16-Dec-2006 09:39:07

Hi everybody, I'm using janus grid trial for the first time so I've come up with many issues:
1. When I add a new record which doesn't meet validation rules the grid starts to raise many exceptions and removes the values and sometimes even terminates the application, why does this happen and generally how can I handle the validation exceptions my slef?
2.When I group the table (containing around 20000 records) and update the values in the criterion column and change all of them to a different value and the ungroup them, another exception is raised, I know the reason but I don't know how to fix it
Eg. I group my table by name so there will a group called "jack" and then I change all of the members of this group's name from jack to "John" and then ungroup it, the grid wants to remove the group header "jack" but infact there is no group called "jack" any more so it raised the exception saying there's no such object.
What can I do?
thanx very much in advance

jgexEditCalendarDropDown problem handyandyh [Australia] 09-Nov-2006 23:13:47

Hi there,

After accessing a cell that uses jgexEditCalendarDropDown as the edit mode, I am unable to click on a command button straight away. Eg user updates a row/column and then clicks on a "save" control button on the form...

The grid loses focus and the command button gains focus, but the click method of the command button doesnt fire for some reason.

Only seems to happen after using the EditCalendarDropDown edit mode on a cell. I've tried switching the edit to another mode after an update, but once that type of edit mode has been used it doesnt seem to work.

Any help or a work around would be appreciated.

Janus GridEX bwagner [USA] 12-Oct-2006 21:01:07

I'm using the Janus GridEx2000b in VB 6 with SP6 on WindowsXP. All is well. I'm operating in Unbound Datamode. I'm allowing the user to add records to the gid: AllowEdit-True, AllowAddNew-Trye, AllowDelete=True, AllowRowSizing=False, AutomaticSort=False. I have the NewRowPos = 0 (top) and things work great. But, what I'd really like to do is allow the user to rapidly add records to the grid. My code picks up the records and works them in it's own way, without direct database access. Again, it all works great.

What I'd really like to do, when the user is done entering the data in the NewRecord row, and hits enter to commit it, the new record is appended to the end of the grid in a newly applocated row. Fine. But, I'd like to tak some of the details they entered, and put them back in the NewRecord row. So far, so goo - I've accomplished this - but I need *NEED* to force the user into EDIT of one of the cells in the NewRecord row. Is there some way to send the grid control a vbKeyF2, or some way of asking the Grid to activate the editor in a cell, programatically, whithout needing the user to enter a key?

Please help - I desperately need this one. Once I have this licked, we can go production with the Janus GridEx200b - which has been a wonderful control to work with, so far.

TIA for any help you or anyone can provide.

Error message: control array element 'index' doesn't exist

I’m using Janus Grid control in my VB 6.0 Form. I have a gridindex ranging from index =0 to index=3. When I load my form the 1’st time it works fine, but when I load my form again without exit my application I get the error message: control array element 'index' doesn't exist.
But the strange thing is that it sometimes works fine to load the form several times without exit the application, but sometimes I get the error message. If it woks fine I can do it over and over again and I will still work fine, but if I then exit VB 6.0 and execute my application and then tries to load my form several times it would not work.
What should I do? Somebody know this problem?

Wonderful GridEx (in Windows Form) but I can't work out how to refresh the row source of a combo in the grid after a new entry has been added (programatically) to the list in a database. Combo is based on a DataTable and have managed to update that OK but not the list available to users when it is dropped down. It updates that only if the form is closed and reopened. Does anyone have an inkling of how to do it??

Hello All,

I've a problem with Rowcount.I'm using 2 Janus Grids on the same form,but only one is visible at a time.The first Grid works perfectly fine. The problem is when i click a button to make the second Grid visible ,the rowcount is 2 and colcount is 2. If rowcount is 0, then i want to fill the grid but because its 2 it doesnt get into that loop and the data is not displayed in the grid.

Ive seen that at design time, Janus grid has 2 rows and 2 columns. But the rowcount should be 0, till the time the recordset property is set. Why is the rowcount 2 in my case am not understanding that? If i set a breakpoint it works well and if i click the button again it works well.It just doesnt work the first time. If someone has any idea what could be the reason,pl do write in. Its urgent. Thanks in advance.

HI

We use the Janus Grid in a database and we are having a problem with data 'disappearing'. Our database Audit Log records it has been entered but it does not get displayed in the Grid properly. I suspect it has someting to do with when the data is re-ordered into an order other than the default order and then additional data is entered and stored in table other than the one the Janus Gris is displaying data from. This is part of the error message recorded in the error log - ErrorNumber='5' ErrorDescription='Invalid procedure call or argument '
Module='frmOptions '
Procedure='Sub JanusDatabase_RowColChange

Our programmer is on holidays at the moment and I am trying to get to the bottom of what is a major headache for us. Can anyone shed any light on what may be the cause of our problems?

While testing a project that has a Janu Grid I found that a message box pops up saying “Destroy” with an “OK” button. It seems to only happen when an editable grid has errors and you try to remove its focus. When “OK” is clicked nothing happens. If you click on the grid again it pops up again.
After some searching I found that the word destroy is located in some Janus XML files on my C drove. I wasn’t able to find the line of code that pops up the message box, maybe its part of the dll for the control?

Please let me know how to stop this as it is not something we want a user to see.

I wuld like to have a grid in WinForms where if a user clicks on a row or if focus is set to a specific row, certain buttons on a form (edit/delete) are enabled. Then when a user clicks on a button, I'd get a handle on row identifier.

Which event should I use to enable/disable buttons and how can I get a handle on row identifiers when buttons are clicked
Reply

RE: Janus GridEX paul [USA] 24-Mar-2005 15:50:31

1. To enable/disable buttons, use the GridEX.SelectionChanged event. It will fire each time the selection in the grid changes. By default, the grid should allow a single selection, which will be the entire row of the grid. If you change that to allow multiple selections, you will need to get the GridEx.SelectedItems collection and navigate it to determine which item to test to set the button properties.

For a single selection, however, the following VB.NET code would work:

Dim sel as GridExSelectedItemCollection = MyGrid.SelectedItems
If sel.Count Then
Button1.Enabled = CBool(sel(0).GetRow().Cells("ColumnToCheck").Value)
End If

2. Use the GridEx.GetRow() method to get a handle to the current grid row.

Set gr.ADORecordset = rs

This is the error:

Please let me know if there is a compatability issue or I am doing something wrong.

If you are loading the control dynamically at runtime, the license manager requires a string based on the license of the control.
To get the license string of GridEX or any other licensed control you need to do the following:

1) Create a new VB project.
2) In a procedure call the Add method in the Licenses collection without specifying the License string and print the result in the immediate window (The result of the method will be the license string you need to use for the control). i.e.

Private Sub Command1_Click()
Debug.Print Licenses.Add("GridEX20.GridEX")
End Sub
'it prints
astringwiththelicense

if the computer in which you ran this procedure has a design time license for the control the license string will be computed by VB and you will print a string like "astringwiththelicense"

Now, to add the license string in a project and be able to run it in any machine whether it has a design time license or not of the control just add the string you previously in the licensed machine with the Add method.

Licenses.Add "GridEX20.GridEX", "astringwiththelicense"

I am using GridEX and Button Bar in a project. The problem I am having is that when I try to create the distributable file I get a message that the dependency file is out of date for the components. If I ignore the message and compile the app it will not work. Does anyone know where I can get the newer dep files for GridEX and ButtonBar.
At present I am developing on a Win XP Pro box.

Hi, I just started with Gridex in an Access XP and SQL Server environment a few days ago and i am convinced this is the right tool for my purposes. But i got now some trouble with several Gridex events and hope there is anybody out there who can tell me how to fix this. The Access samples delivered with Gridex do not show many programming details .
So my problem: Events like gridex_beforecoledit or gridex_aftercolupdate and several others result in a compiler error - I do not post the message because I get it in German and do not know the english counterpart - It seems like the parameters are defined wrong whereas the event gridex_rowformat (rowbuffer as object) works fine with parametertype Object instead of JSRowdata like shown in the provided Sample. So what could be wrong ?

Thanks in advance

RE: Janus GridEX jcastanedo [Panama] 28-Jan-2004 16:23:53

Yes, Access do not accept typed parameters in event handlers. You must change the event procedure to use Object instead of JS_XXX type in all events you want to handle.

Also, please read the readme.htm file for important information about using the control in Access.

Hi there,

I'm pretty new to Janus GridEx and I have some questions before buying the Janus Grid component.

1. Can this Janus Grid hosts ( display ) linklable control beside combobox/textbox...etc. If it can not then can we format a column in the grid ( any column) to have a blue color with underline text ( trying to mimic the linklable control ) ( and I also assum that we can align the column header and column text as left/center/right as we want ) ?

2. I heard that Janus GridEx can display some kind of parent-child relationship as well. This is what I heard. Hear is the senario:

A) I have a database query, say OrderQuery = Select * from Orders
B) and I also have another query called: OrderDetailQuery = Select * from OrderDetail Where OrderID= 2 ( where OrderID's value is from the column of the OrderQuery)

So Let say, I first load the Janus Grid to display the result from the Orders table ( execute the OrderQuery ) and OrderID is the first column.
Then, lets say, when user double-click (or click) on the cell in OrderID column and we CAN get the OrderID's value and within the double-click ( or click) event, we can execute the 2nd query ( OrderDetailQuery pass in the OrderID) and display a FLOATING GRID over the first grid with the result from the
OrderDetailQuery ?

I really need to know if the senarios above could be done using Janus GridEx.

Thanks in advance

I need to write a column of passwords with masked symbol.
Now I made :

Set col = jsgxMain.Columns.Add("Password", jgexText, jgexEditTextBox, "Password")
col.DataField = "Password"

If exist a "PasswordChar"?

Thanks.

RE: Janus GridEX wqw [Bulgaria] 14-Jan-2004 01:58:21

there's no specific property to mask a passwords column (!!!)

the best approach for this task would be to use a column with EditType = jgexEditCustom and to handle the InitCustomEdit, ShowCustomEdit and EndCustomEdit events.

a regular VB.TextBox control with a preset PasswordChar will do the job. (probably with border = none)

The example code does not seem to fire the deleteunbound events anyway!

Considering the amount of users asking for VC++ samples, wouldn't it be a good thing supplying some?

Me too, I'm having problems using the control in Visual C++; Especially the Buttonbar Control, that is...
I've overridden the C_Buttonbar class, and I use event reflection to capture the "OnItemClick" Event. This (generated) function has only one parameter: an LPDISPATCH. However, according to the help-file, there should be 2 (there's also an int supplying the id of the item).
The function gets called, no problem, but when I try to use that parameter ("attach-dispatching" it to an C_JSGroupItem), my application crashes at a non-defined point somewhere after the onclick-handler has exited, and I only have "OLEAUT32! 779dbac8()" in the call stack.
The strange thing is, that the LPDISPATCH is actually the right one: a call to GetKey() returns the right value!! But it must have to do something with that, because when I don't call AttachDispatch() on the Item-parameter, the application doesn't crash.

Can anyone help me with this problem please?

how I can set the behavior of a DropDown gridex containing two columns, and where the first could be a field like '01, 02, 03.. etc' (item code) and the second column could be "Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.. etc" (item description). what I want to do is to type de item code, like a shortcut, and manage the properties BoundColumnIndex and ReplaceColumnIndex set to write to the database just the item description. this is a improvement in the input data process that i want to implent, I know is possible due to I have done this before but I don't know exactly how, I remember that I was able to write the item code and in the moment that I changed the current cell the item description appears in the mentioned cell and finally recorded in the database...

I get a 'The setting you entered isnt valid for this property' error (2101).

Is this because Im using the trial version??

It's possible to make a fixed column in GridEx? How is when I use the RowHeaders property=True, but I'd like to have the table key field values there. So all the time when I scrolling to the right this fixed column be the first column, to see the "row identification number" ... This work in case of MsFlexGrid.

Hi all,

I'm getting some really funky behavior from the grid and I’m wondering if anyone could point me in the proper direction.
I’m binding the grid to a recordset that I’m creating via code (eLockType = adLockBatchOptimistic and eCursorType = adOpenStatic). Everything seems to bind correctly, but as I move from row to row I get some bizarre behavior from the underlying recordset. If I scroll the grid and then select a cell outside of the original viewing area, the recordset doesn’t position itself on the newly selected row. If I don’t scroll the grid (move via the arrow keys), everything works fine. I’m using the recordset’s AbsolutePosition property to check it’s current position and when I scroll the grid and click on a row, the absolute position always responds that I’m currently at the row that is just above the viewable area of the grid. I’ve McGyvered something together for now, but I’d really like this problem solved.

Dates and GridEX

Heres a brief description of the time data entry issue we have regarding the GridEX control.

If a date is entered into a date field in GridEX in the format of aa/bb/cc or similar, GridEX seems to be defaulting to mm/dd/yy format unless the date entered is unambiguous (day of month is over 12). Therefore dates for the beginning of the month are interpreted as mm/dd/yy when the date entered is in the format dd/mm/yy.

The date format on the server does not seem to make a difference to this issue, so how do we alter GridEX to only interpret dates as dd/mm/yy?

We run it web based!

We have the gridex system installed as a web based application, however we are unable to get the gridex when opening a page to populate. We have to have the users click an update button on the page before the gridex will populate.

The page uses the code below to load the gridex and set the recordset etc. The gridex only populates when the button that calls the update is clicked on 90% of machines.

Does anyone know why or how to solve this problem, or how to do the same as the update button on loading so as to populate the gridex.

Hi
One of the fields that I retrieve from an Oracle database is a concatenated string field delimited by a carriage return+ new line ASCII (CHR (10) || CHR (13)).
Exp:'first' || CHR (10) || CHR (13) || 'second'.......
The corresponding column in the gridEx replaces the two ASCII characters with two squares and then continues the suppose to be a second line in the first line as well.
Isn't there a way to simulate a crlf in the gridEx column?

Hello, we are using Janus GridEx (great one component) and need to add one unbound column whe we are in bound mode. Is that possible? We connect an ADO recordset to the GridEx in bound mode and then add a new column (edittype=checkbox). That is possible and easy to do. But when the checkbox in the added column is checked at any row all other rows are make unchecked in that column. Only one row can have that checkbox checked at the moment. How to prevent it? We need that for making the rows checked for further operations.
Any suggestions are welcome.

I contacted the author of GridEX 2000 about your question. They tell me the GridEX control can not maintain values in columns that are not bound to a field in the recordset. To have an unbound column you must use the FetchData event to pass the value of each cell when it is loaded by the control.

Does anybody know how to use the FetchData event in VC++ to update a calculated column that is not bound to any field of the database table?
The problem I'm facing is on the last parameter (Value) of the function call for the event:
OnFetchDataGridex(long RowIndex, short ColIndex, const VARIANT FAR& RowBookmark, LPDISPATCH Value)
The Type is LPDISPATCH but if you look in the documentation, it should be a JSRetVariant.
The problem is that the wrapper classes generated by VC do not contain the JSRetVariant class.
Are there any workarounds for this problem?

After a the refetch method has been issued the grid looses all its valuelists and dropdown combo and gridimages assignments. The columns with valuelists and dropdowncombo's default to the index or value of the associated valuelist/dropdowncombo. The columns with gridimages disappear.
Reason for using refetch:
After setting grid.ColumnAutoResize = true, the columns all fit in the visible area of the grid. Issuing grid.ColumnAutoResize = false does not restore the columns to their previous state, however when issuing the refetch command the columns does resize to their previous state BUT all valuelist/dropdowncombo/gridimages are lost.

Work Around for getting the columns to resize to widest entry
dim jscol as GridEX20.JSColumn
for each jscol in grid
jscol.AutoSize
next

Is this a known issue? Should refetch be used in this fasion?

PS
the grid is excellent and we all love it (even convinced management to buy a site lisence)

Hello Nicolaas,

I contacted Janus about your questions. Here is their response:

When using Refetch method, the control will create a new column
structure by default. To keep the column layout you are using in a
Refetch method use the HoldFields method before calling Refetch. E.g.

GridEX1.HoldFields
GridEX1.Refetch

As for the ColumnAutoResize property, Yes, once you set this
property, the control won't maintain the previous, you can either set
the width of each column after setting ColumnAutoResize to False or, as
you are doing it now call the AutoSize method in each column.

Please let me know if you have any further questions about this at all.

I have the following problem after using the Janus Grid (Janus GridEX V1.5e) for more then tree year. I have a new computer and the OS is now 2000 in stead of my previous NT.
When I want to reinstall the component the following error-message appears :
'you cannot install this VB5 installation without the latest service pack....'
I use VB 6 and this problem did not occur on my previous computer. The programm where I used the component did not change for a couple of years, so I hope it is not necessary to redistribute a new version of this component to all users.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a few problems with the GridEx Control and was hoping for some help.

1) When using the GridEx control as a dropdown on a secondary monitor the view when droped is displayed on the primary monitor. Are there any fixes available for this?

2) I would like to know how much decrease in preformace should there be between the GridEx Control being Bound against being Unbound using the same database connection.

Hello Rafi,

I checked with Janus Support, and they told me the following:

1) When using the GridEx control as a dropdown on a secondary monitor the view when dropped is displayed on the primary monitor. Are there any fixes available for this?

We have seen this behavior in the control but we have also seen this while using other combos in even those used by Microsoft in their apps, so according to our findings this seems a limitation in the way the OS handles windows when used with dual monitors...

2) I would like to know how much decrease in performance should there be between the GridEx Control being Bound against being Unbound using the same database connection.

GridEX has a better performance while used in ADO DataMode than in Unbound mode.

Please have a look at their answers above. If you have any further questions about this, let me know.

Since Windows98SE Microsoft has had full support for displaying all types of windows on multiple monitors. I don't think the reason for the dropdown reverting back to the primary monitor is entirely due to the OS. This problem is likely to be caused by the GridEx itself wanting the dropdown GridEx to always be visible. This causes a problem when on the secondary monitor as it does not realise that the dropdown is still visible, therefore pushing it back onto the primary monitor. If so is there any chance of a fix in the near future?
The problem may also stem from windows not returning the correct desktop size, but I haven’t looked into this.

GridEx doesn't seem to have this functionality. This might do the trick but has a slight fliker as the selected cell changes.

RE: CPU performance support@componentsource.com 08-Feb-2002 22:05:45

Hi Takenori,

The hardware that makes up the client computer will always affect the performance of your application. Because of this, I would think that depending on the size of the grouping or sorting routine you run, you will see performance differences between a Pentium 3 or Celeron. If you have any questions about this, please let me know.

Hello Takenori,

I asked Janus Support about this, and they say it is possible to display characters in Japanese in GridEx. However, you need to chose a font capable of displaying those characters. This font property should be changed using the VB property window and not in the GridEX designer. Please let me know if you need anything else.

I have a few questions regarding this grid:
1) About licensing: If we buy one developer license, does it mean that only one machine can have the component installed? Is there a way to, even temporarily, to move or copy the component to another machine without violating licensing rules?

2) Displaying images: On our databases we usually do not keep the product picture on the products table, but only its path on a text field (say, "C:\Images\xxx.jpg"). Is there a way to have the grid display the images of all grid listed products on a given column of the grid so that the user can see some kind of thumbnail right away? We could use this kind of functionality.

3) Is it possible to integrate this grid with Data Environment Objects (such as a command object). I don't seem to find properties such as DataSource or DataMember. If it is not currently possible, I think you should give it a thought.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have been searching for a good DB grid component, and it seems that GridEX 2000 is the best around.

But I am really missing one thing, that all othjer grids I have tried have been able to :

I have developed my own component to retrieve ADO recordsets from calling a stored procedure, and I use to do the following :

set RS = myconponent.callStoredProcedure(param1, param2)

GridEX1.datasource = RS

But I can't seem to find this type of function i GridEX ...

Can this really be true that you cant throw your own created recordset into the grid without having to make connectionstrings and so on

Otherwise it looks great :o)

Hi,

I checked with Janus Systems regarding this, and they gave me the following information to pass on to you:

When you already have a recordset, you could use the ADORecordset property of the control in order to bind the control to it. i.e.

set RS = myconponent.callStoredProcedure(param1, param2)
Set GridEX1.ADORecordset = rs

‘don’t call Rebind after setting the ADORecordset to avoid the
creation of another recordset based on GridEX settings
Note: the recordset you assign to the ADORecordset property must support bookmarks.

Hi,

I'm using theGridEx which is a very powerful and satisfying tool. But I have the folowing problem.
When I use this code some strange things happen.
When a record is not 'Payed' (paid) and the 'DateDue' has expanded, the row should get formatted as a 'Overdue'-formatstyle. (Red background...& other stuff...)

But when I scroll the grid, sometimes the field 'Payed' changes randomly into 'True' or 'False' and the formatstyle also changes randomly, ignoring the query.

What's wrong?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Private Sub grdSalesHead_FetchData(ByVal RowIndex As Long, ByVal ColIndex As Integer, ByVal RowBookmark As Variant, ByVal Value As GridEX20.JSRetVariant)
Dim rsRowData As Recordset
Dim rsJSRowData As JSRowData

Set rsRowData = grdSalesHead.ADORecordset
rsRowData.Bookmark = RowBookmark

' On Error Resume Next
If CDate(rsRowData![DateDue]) < CDate(Date) And rsRowData![Payed] = False Then
Set rsJSRowData = grdSalesHead.GetRowData(RowBookmark)
rsJSRowData.RowStyle = "OverDue"
Else
Set rsJSRowData = grdSalesHead.GetRowData(RowBookmark)
rsJSRowData.RowStyle = "Default"
End If
Value = rsRowData![Payed]

End Sub

Hi Tim,

I contacted Janus about your question, and they gave me the following information to give to you:

You are setting the value correctly in the FetchData event. However, this event should not be used to set a formatstyle to the row. I you want to apply a FormatStyle to a row use the RowFormat event. In this event you get the row being formatted as parameter and you can use that row to get values of it and to apply the FormatStyle depending on the value.

Take a look at their suggestions above. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

We still have problems with the GPF when ending a application with the END statement. Everything we've tried including what you suggest in the readme file dosn't work, the GPF appears anyway.

Is this a Bug in Gridex or VB? We're running VB 6.0 SP5 on WinXP and W2k.

Any more suggestions?

Hi Thomas,

I asked Janus Systems about this error, and they told me the following:

This is not really a bug in the control, You should never use the
End statement since there are a lot of risks involved in using End in VB
programs: your databases might not be correctly closed, your objects are
not correctly terminated, etc. You should always terminate a program by
unloading all the forms. For more information about this you could read:

http://www.vb2themax.com/Item.asp?PageID=TipBank&ID=273

The link above explains an alternative to the End Statement, and why End
shouldn't be used. Have a look at this information. If you have any other
questions arise, please let me know.

Saying that a VB 'End' Statement does not release all system memory properly is pure superstition: The VB 'End' statement does function properly.
There are cases where there is no other option than to use thenVB 'End' statement. It is of course not a normal case.
The GPF that you mentionned is definitively a bug from the Janus Grid and should be corrected. The mentioned link explaining why not use the VB 'End' statement should not protect Janus from correcting this bug.

RE: Janus GridEX - GPF support@componentsource.com 14-Jan-2002 19:09:06

Hi Marc,

I contacted Janus regarding your post, and they provided me with the following information:

When the End Statement is called from the Unload or QueryUnload events of a form, the controls in such form are not properly terminated (The Terminate event is not fired for those controls). I don’t know the reason why this happens, but in the case of GridEX control, the control needs this event to restore the subclassed windows in it properly.

If you are calling the End statement in the Unload event of a Form with a GridEX control, try setting the Cancel parameter to True before calling the End Statement. This is described in the Readme.htm file installed with the control and will fix the GPF problem you have.

Please let me know if you require any further information about this.

There's one thing I would like to helped on: I would like to know how can I access the group header caption and value from code as well as the group footer's totals. I examined NWind sample and I saw on the orders grid something like "Order Date ..-..-.... (x orders) (y unpaid)". On the other hand, how can I show totals on the group header (with or without conditions) so that I don't need to expand the group. This would be very helpful for my customers.

Another question is: is ther a way to expand or collapse only one group by code?

Thanks for your help and Merry Christmas.

Hello Antonio,

I contacted Janus Systems and asked them your question. They have replied with some code that should show you how to do this:

To add a total in the group header row you should change the GroupCaption property in the RowFormat event when the row is being loaded. For instance, if you want to show the sum of values in column 5 do:

Private Sub GridEX1_RowFormat(RowBuffer As GridEX20.JSRowData)

If RowBuffer.RowType = jgexRowTypeGroupHeader Then
RowBuffer.GroupCaption = RowBuffer.GroupCaption & “ (“ & RowBuffer.GetSubTotal(5, jgexSum) & “)”

End If

End Sub

Problem with FmtConditions nick.hobbs [United Kingdom] 19-Dec-2001 17:54:12

Hello

I am using your Janus GridEx control and have a problem with the conditional formatting feature with the FmtConditions collection. Please see the code below which adds 3 JSFmtCondition items to the FmtConditions collection, and the result appears to only apply the first condition that matches, and not apply all the format styles if all conditions match for a record.

It should apply a bold font to all rows where the 7th and 8th columns have a True value, and also apply a pale yellow background to all rows where the 2nd column matches "Received".

If I apply just one of the conditions then that condition works well, but all together, and only the first matching condition is applied and appears to ignore any other conditions. My conditional formatting is complimentary of each other so need it to apply bold and a yellow background if all the conditions are met.

Please can you help?

Best regards,

Nick Hobbs

Dim fmtCon As JSFmtCondition

' Embolden the unassigned items
Set fmtCon = GridEX1.FmtConditions.Add(7, jgexEqual, True)
fmtCon.FormatStyle.FontBold = True

' Embolden the unread items
Set fmtCon = GridEX1.FmtConditions.Add(8, jgexEqual, True)
fmtCon.FormatStyle.FontBold = True

' Colour the Received items
Set fmtCon = GridEX1.FmtConditions.Add(2, jgexEqual, "Received")
fmtCon.FormatStyle.BackColor = vbInfoBackground

RE: Problem with FmtConditions [Janus Systems Support] 21-Dec-2001 15:53:37

Such behavior is by design. FmtConditions are not merged in a row. Only the first condition, is applied to a row.

RE: Problem with FmtConditions timtom_uk [United Kingdom] 10-May-2002 12:55:46

Hi Nick,

I had the same problem as you when using the format conditions. I found that you can roll your own solution by using the RowFormat event. You can reference the current row by using the rowbuffer object that is passed to the event by the control. I'll not go into too much details as you can see how to use it in the example below. If you are unclear, try searching for RowFormat in the GridEx help file.

Hope this helps my friend :o)

Dim dDate As Date

Dim dLate As Date
Dim sError As String
Dim lDiff As Long

m_GridId = RowBuffer.Value(1)
bCompleted = RowBuffer.Value(3)
dDate = RowBuffer.Value(4)
dTime = RowBuffer.Value(5)

lDiff = DateDiff("n", m_Date, (dDate + dTime))

If bCompleted <> 0 Then
RowBuffer.RowStyle = "Done"
Else
Select Case lDiff
Case Is < 1
RowBuffer.IconIndex(2) = 6
Case 1 To 238
Dim t As Integer
t = Int((lDiff - 1) / 60) + 2
RowBuffer.IconIndex(2) = t
Case Else
If dDate = Date Then
RowBuffer.IconIndex(2) = 1
Else
RowBuffer.IconIndex(2) = 0

When I use the 'find' function in code and the column is ASC-sorted I encountered no problems, but when I use the same code when the column is DESC-sorted the function 'find' returns a true on finding the item but does not position to the right row.

The documentation states for the Find method that it:

Sets the current row in a GridEX control to the one that matches the specified criteria.

You should then be able to use the EnsureVisible method to have the grid move to that row.

I've used this in a couple of projects and it works fine. EnsureVisible should move to the selected row by default (no parameters), but you can always specify gridex1.row if you like.

Anyone out there using Janus GridEX 2000 together with C++ ?

Does anyone have some good programming tips for using GridEX 2000a with Visual C++ ?

In the help file accompanying the product all samples are written in VB. When using C++, all the passing of arguments needs to be done using helper classes wrapping all the VARIANT stuff. But all these conversions make things quite tedious at times.

To begin with I fell for the grid's data bound abilities, but I actually needed to work only with temporary data, so that pressing the Cancel button would just leave all 'real' data untouched. Then I had to turn to the unbound-mode. Here, I have troubles in keeping the 'logical' data the same as the displayed data (in the grid's cells). Do you have any good programming hints (like 'use this and that function in this case...') ??

Thanks,

This is an excellent grid in data bound mode.
I cannot get this grid to work in UnBound Mode in an ASP Application. I converted your example for VB into ASP/VBScript.
I have set the "DataMode" in the controls properties but it does not seem to see it when trying to set the "GridEX1.ItemCount = mRowCount". I keep getting an error that states: "Cannot set item property in bound mode".
I am setting the "DataMode" in the controls declaration in HTML i.e. DataMode="99".
I am very impressed with this product, but this issue has consumed my time for the past 24 hours with no results.
Can you help? How can I fix this. The control I am using is only demo version. Will this go away in the Registered Version?

Janus GridEX test [Malaysia] 14-Jun-2001 04:53:10

How do I make a master-details form with Janus System Grid? Where can get the information?

I saw the Northwind Advanced Sample, is that available to download for the source code?

Thank you very much.

ComponentOne TrueDataControl is the answer.
This control can take any recordset as it's datasource,
and have a master-detail relationship with each other.
This performs great!
But TrueDataControl doesn't perform good as a datasource of Janus GridEX.

Janus GRIDEX is the best choice for manipulating a recordset.

Evaluation version freezes my application when I t ike 01-Jun-2001 15:36:14

I am very impressed with the variety and strength of features provided with your grid ...however, after initially including this grid in my project and running it in debug mode with no problems at all, all subsequent attempts to re-open the project have resulted in VB freezing when your evaluation reminder comes up at startup.

Why is this? (It's the 3rd time I've started a new project and the same sequence of events has occured).

P/s do you have any plans to support SQLServer 7/2000 in the near future as this is a strong determinant in our decision to go ahead - in fact the only (in the absence of the current problem)

Thanks.

Are you using any other third party control in your project? If so, which one?
You could use GridEX 2000 with SQL Server 7/2000 in ADO DataMode.

This does not work at all

GridEX.Movelast.....

I want to move the grid to the last row whenever a form is loaded. I have entered the above in my code But it does not do that. It does some times but fails again. Something is wrong with it i feel. The record selection pointer is definetely on the last row but the vertical scroll bar is on different positions each time the grid is refreshed, i.e not taking to the last record!

How can this be solved or is it a bug....

Such behavior is no longer present in GridEX 2000b

Multiple-step Error zubairusman [United Kingdom] 23-May-2001 10:45:02

I have this message that appears 'Multiple-step operation generated errors. Check each status value.'
Anyone have any ideas why this appears and how to resolve it.

RE: Multiple-step Error [Janus Systems Support] 26-May-2001 00:49:11

The error is raised by ADO not by the GridEX control. It is usually fired when there is a type mismatch in one of the fields, or a required field is empty. There could be other reasons why this error is raised, and you could check the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:

Q207684, Q247202, Q228935, Q253882

The error description is not being explicit enough. To get a more explicit description, shift temporarily to use Server side cursors or check the ADO documentation for more information about this error.

Hi

I have added a combo dropdown column to my grid and it all appears to work fine apart from one major problem. When I select an item from the dropdown list it does not change the data in the underlying cell. I have set the edit property to true and I am able to change other cells where I do not have a combo box.

What am I doing wrong as the example project works fine. I'm using VB6 and Access 95 connecting to my database with an ADO connection string.

Thanks

In order to be able to select an entry in a dropdown grid, the BoundColumnIndex and ReplaceColumnIndex properties must be set in the GridEX control that is acting as the dropdown list. Please check that these properties are set in your control.

How to use the property databasename or what other property exists to open a database that is password-protected using the DAO 3.6 ?

Thanks,

Set the Connect property in the following way:

GridEX1.Connect = "MS Access;pwd=<password>"

This applies to Password protected databases, if you want to open a database with User Security you need to open the database and recordset at runtime and assign that recordset to the Recordset property of the control.

RE: Loss of Focus In Unbound Mode.... Syd [UK] 11-Apr-2001 10:07:45

In Unbound mode, the loss of focus from a grid doesn't throw the UnboundReadData. This means that if a user opens the form, clicks a check-box on the grid, then hits a "save" button WITHOUT moving rows in the grid, the change to the value of the check box will not be registered, even though the value will have changed visually in the grid. I wouldn't go so far as to say that this is a "bug" but it is an unexpected piece of behavior.... I can work-around, no doubt, by doing some manual shilly-shally in my "save" routine, but maybe there is a better answer???

RE: Loss of Focus In Unbound Mode.... [Janus Systems Support] 11-Apr-2001 16:59:52

The UnboundReadData event is not fired when the control loses the focus, (this is by Design).

If you have changed some of the data in your array/collection used in the UnboundReadData event you should call the RefreshRowIndex method to force GridEX Control to fire the UnboundReadData event and refresh the contents of a row.

RE: Loss of Focus In Unbound Mode.... Syd [UK] 12-Apr-2001 08:28:10

Just out of interest, WHY is this by-design? I would have figured that, from the point-of-view of the user, clicking on another control is more indicative of "I'm happy and I want to commit this now" than moving to another row??? I'm sure there is a good reason - just interested in what it is. Thanks for your help. Syd

RE: Loss of Focus In Unbound Mode.... [Janus Systems Support] 16-Apr-2001 14:41:15

If we commit the changes when the control loses the focus, you won't have a chance to have a cancel button. when the user tries to click the cancel button, the changes would be committed and it wouldn't be any way to revert those changes.

If we don't commit the changes when the control loses the focus you just need to call the Update method and you are still able to cancel the changes in the current row.

DblClick Event syd_egan [Berkshire, United Kingdom] 04-Apr-2001 10:45:49

Has anyone got around the v. annoying way the DblClick event picks up a double-click on the column header. I want to use the DblClick to bring up an “Edit” dialog when a user double-clicks on a row, which works fine, but it ALSO brings up the dialog when the user double-clicks on the column header.

I am using the following to get the index of the clicked row:

lngIndex = jgridCustomer.RowIndex(jgridCustomer.Row)

Is there a better way??? Can I somehow detect if the click was on a column header and ignore it???

TIA

RE: DblClick Event [Janus Systems Support] 05-Apr-2001 21:35:29

To know where the user is clicking you need to use the HitTest method.

The HitTest method uses a coordinate as parameters and you don't get the X,Y coordinate where the user is clicking in the DblClick event so you will need to store this coordinate in a previous MouseDown event. i.e.

'In the Declarations section
Option Explicit

Dim mLastX As Long
Dim mLastY As Long

Private Sub GridEX1_MouseDown(Button As Integer, Shift As Integer, X As Single, Y As Single)

'save the last coordinate the user clicked on
mLastX = X
mLastY = Y

End Sub

Private Sub GridEX1_DblClick()

If GridEX1.HitTest(mLastX, mLastY) = jgexHTCell Then
'Now you are sure the user is clicking on a row and you can proceed to show the record form here...
End If

End Sub
