xamRibbon - The xamRibbon control is a menu control that replicates the Microsoft Office 2007 Ribbon functionality in a Microsoft Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) application. Instead of using the plain, default, drop-down menu of decades past, you can use xamRibbon to give your application a stylish look and feel. Not only can you improve your application's look and feel, you can also improve usability by using xamRibbon's many features.

Application Menu - The application menu is the main menu of the application. The application menu is divided into three separate areas:

The left area displays buttons intended for file operations

The right area displays buttons similarly to the left area. Another use for the right area might be a most recently used list

The bottom area displays buttons such as application options or an exit button

Quick Access Toolbar - The Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) is a small, user-configurable toolbar that is always visible either above (default) or below the Ribbon control. Column Moving Indicators – Customize the image used to prompt users where the column they are dragging will be repositioned when they drop it.

Improved Selected and Active Cell Appearances – Now you can override any System-defined or Row-defined Selected or Active appearances at the cell-level. Additionally, since the most common properties you’ve told us you would want to override are the foreground and background colors of selected cells, you can now set defaults for these selected colors in one place.

Active Cell Border Thickness – You can change the solid active cell border’s thickness and have it applied on all four sides of the active cell making it appear more prominent.

Row Selector Images for Specific States – You can customize the image used for the active row, active row with pending changes, active add new row, inactive rows with pending changes, and inactive add new rows through the new RowSelectorImages property.

Group-by Row Connector Appearance – Style the new row connector element independently of the GroupByRowAppearance, and even define distinct connector appearances on a per-column basis.

WinGridDocumentExporter – Enhanced

Exported PDF/XPS Matches the Group-by Summary Display Style – When you export the WinGrid to PDF/XPS, it will position the summaries on its group-by rows to match their on-screen appearance in the WinGrid based on the GroupBySummaryDisplayStyle setting.

New features for WPF developers: In this 2009 Volume 2 release Infragistics have added more features to xamDataGrid and xamDataPresenter Grid View:

Real-time Record/Cell Highlighting – Alert your users as cell or record values change by highlighting how that value is presented (for example, you can flash cells as their values change).

Record/Cell Value Change History - You can set the grid to keep a history of value changes, so that when you are highlighting records or cells in real-time you can selectively reformat its data in creative new ways (for example, you can display a run of up- and down-ticks within the cell as its value changes to allow users to see the recent trend).

Clipboard Support – Users can cut, copy and paste from the data grid to another location in the same grid, to another data grid, or to other applications like Microsoft Excel.

Unlimited Undo/Redo – Users can not only undo/redo clipboard operations, but they can also reverse common UI operations! These include edits to cell values; rearrangements they have made to the grid UI such as resizing, fixing, and moving; sorting, grouping and filtering operations on the data; and more!

Enhanced Grid View – Now you can display the data grid as a flattened list of records that minimizes the number of elements to display and depth of the grid’s visual tree, resulting in faster display and scrolling speeds. Flattening the list of records also allows you to have hierarchies or groupings of records of unlimited depth.

Field Chooser – Just like in Windows Explorer or Microsoft Outlook, your users can now choose from a list of fields to add or remove from the grid’s field layout. Let your users decide if they want to work with a simple or detailed view of your data.

Cross-Band Grouping – Users can group records by common value, even when fields are at different levels of your data’s hierarchy, by conveniently dragging fields into and out of a new, completely stylable group-by area.

Fixed (“Frozen”) Records – In addition to support for fixed fields within the data grid view, your users can now fix records into place at the top or bottom of the grid view. Based on the instantly recognizable pushpin metaphor, you can custom style the appearance of these fixed records and their pushpin indicator for one consistent appearance across your application UI.

Field Auto-Sizing – Users can double-click on the far edge of a field so that it resizes to accommodate the width of its content, just like in Microsoft Excel. With numerous new properties you can optimize how, where and when Auto-Sizing behavior takes place in your application.

Field Star-Sizing – You can now specify proportional sizes for your fields using “star-notation” that gives you new flexibility to control the weight each field receives when its cells are sized relative to the grid view as a whole.

IDataErrorInfo – If your business objects implement .NET’s IDataErrorInfo interface, the grid view can leverage that implementation to provide your users with custom error indications and a tooltip with your error message at any of cell, field, and/or record levels.

New Features for Windows Forms developers:

WinGrid – Enhanced

Enhanced Filtering UI – Now you can give end users a totally new user interface for filtering grid columns. End users can check the checkboxes of column values to filter by from a dropdown window like in Microsoft Excel, and choose to filter from a variety of constraints appropriate to their column data (for example, in a date column you can filter by the next week, month, or quarter; even filter to within a date range!)

Fixed Headers Right – Pin column headers on the right-side of the grid to freeze them in place, just like you have been able to pin them on the left-side. Slide wide data sets horizontally with key columns pinned into place just like in Microsoft Excel.

Row Layout Grouping – Organize nested groupings of columns (for example, quarters grouped within a fiscal year) in Row Layout mode. You can now also move these groups of columns as a single unit, or confine column movement only to within its group.

Checkbox Column Headers – Add a checkbox to a column header, that will check or un-check many or all subordinate rows. The checkbox column header automatically synchronizes with the values in the column if they are Boolean-type values, or they can be edited with a checkbox editor. Synchronization can also be limited by row island.

Sibling Band Order – Set or change the visible index of bands at the same level of the data grid, so they appear in the sequence your users want.

WinPanel – NEW!

Fully Stylable Container – Combines the features found in the standard Windows Forms panel like scrolling and auto-sizing, with the full stylability of the Application Styling Framework for complete control over its appearance.

WinCombo and WinComboEditor – Enhanced

Dropdown List Multi-Select – Improved checkbox multi-select allows users to choose multiple dropdown options with their mouse only. Ideal for user interfaces that must work with one hand, since there is no need for a keyboard or use two hands to Ctrl-click.

WinListView – Enhanced

Range Select – Users can easily drag-select a range of items in the list view just like they do in the Windows® Explorer. Any list items touching the rectangular region (“lasso”) dragged out by the user will become selected.

WinSchedule – Enhanced

Appointment Dragging and Resizing – Developers have greater control than ever before over the dragging and resizing of appointments, with new cancelable events.

Custom Working Hours – Business happens at all hours, and these are not always contiguous stretches of time, so the WinDayView enables you to configure working hour periods that are non-contiguous (i.e.., lunch breaks) and are rules-based (i.e., apply one set of working hours for the first weekday of the month) for superior customizability to your users’ needs.

New features for WPF developers: In this 2009 Volume 1 release Infragistics have deepened the sea of features in the xamDataGrid and xamDataPresenter Grid View. There are three highly configurable mechanisms through which filter functionality can be exposed to your end users, and they are:

Fixed Filter Mode allows you to place an empty record at the top or bottom of the grid view in which the user can enter values that will show only the records which match their conditions.

Dropdown List from the filter icon in the field header provides users with a list of operators that they can select from when filtering records.

Fully-Featured Form presents users with an elaborate user interface that allows them to easily design complex record filters comprised of a limitless number of Boolean AND/OR/NOT operators that can be nested arbitrarily deep.

Programmatic record filtering support enables developers to use their own external UI to control filtering within the grid view.

The filter conditions can be extended by developers adding their own implementation of the ICondition interface to the Conditions a record filter uses.

Fixed Fields – Fixed fields allow the user to scroll grid views with many fields, while at the same time keeping key fields stationary for convenient reference. There are two ways in which users can manipulate the fixing of fields:

Users can drag a field header to either the left or right side of the grid view to fix it in place.

Alternately, users can click on a “pushpin” indicator in the field header that can be configured to fix that field to the left or right side.

Fixed fields work in both horizontal and vertical orientations of the grid view (i.e., in a vertical grid users may fix fields on the top or bottom edge), and the near/far concept of field fixing allows them to work as users would expect for languages written right-to-left.

Header Placement – Field headers can be made to repeat themselves for easy reference at each hierarchical level of the grid, or at every group-by record.

SyncWithCurrentItem Support – Control whether the grid view is synchronized with its current items’ selected state from the data or items source, and vice versa, with one property setting.

Robust CollectionView Support – Present data confidently when you sort or filter the underlying data source, because the grid view fully adheres to the CollectionView API established by Microsoft.

New features for ASP.NET developers:

WebDataTree - NEW!

Hierarchical View – Hierarchical tree view of your data in the form of nodes can be populated by data binding to any Hierarchical DataSource including the Infragistics WebHierarchicalDataSource control.

Single/Multi Node Selection – Users can select one or multiple tree nodes by either Shift- or Ctrl- clicking multiple nodes, At any given time, one node on the tree can be the active node and the tree can persist this active node even as the user moves focus to other controls on the page.

Keyboard Navigation – Users can move around the tree, collapsing and expanding nodes, using intuitive keys like the arrow keys, Enter key and Space bar.

Load on Demand – For best performance, nodes are only data bound when the user expands their parent node. This can be handled automatically in the case of data sets with a few declarative property settings, or for greater control you can manually manage how the tree loads additional nodes from your data source. As the tree is loading, it can display a loading message to the user that you can customize through its template.

Bi/Tri State Checkboxes – Enable checkboxes on tree nodes that allow users to individually check/uncheck them. Tri-state logic allow nodes to be in either a checked, an unchecked or an inderminate state.

Animations – When child nodes come into view or collapse out of sight, they can do so using a variety of different animation effects.

Customizable Nodes – Tree nodes can have their own image, present themselves as a template (for instance, perhaps with a checkbox), and they can even be edited by the user for example if your tree were presenting heterogeneous data.

Many Stylable States – Custom style the appearance of activation, selection, disabling of nodes, the default node appearance, specific individual nodes, and the mouse over effect.

WebDataMenu - NEW!

Hierarchical View – Enable expeditious navigation around your Web site with any degree of nesting of its cascading menu items.

Auto Positioning – Whether you orient the menu vertically or horizontally, place it near the edge of the screen or in the middle, its ability to intelligently position its submenus where they will have enough space to expand keeps your user on track at all times.

Keyboard Navigation – Users can move around the menus entirely with their keyboard, using keys intuitively like the arrow keys to expand submenus or the Space bar to select a menu item.

Single/Multiple Selection - Users can select one or multiple menu items by either Shift- or Ctrl- clicking multiple selectable menu items. At any given time, one item in the menu can be the active item, and the menu can optionally persist this active menu item even after your user leaves the menu so that when they return, they can pick-up from where they left off.

Data Binding – The menu supports direct data binding to a SiteMapDataSource control to integrate with the sitemap files you have today, and any hierarchical DataSource as well as to the Infragistics WebHierarchicalDataSource control.

Animations – Submenus can appear or disappear using many different animated effects.

Context Menu – Users can bring up a context menu, that you can populate with context-sensitive tasks that you would like them to be able to perform.

Customizable Menu Items - Menu items are templatable so you can control how they look and feel, for example you could create a template for checkable menu items. Menu items can be given their own image, they can also be set to act as separators.

Many Stylable States – Custom style the appearance of activation, selection, disabling of menu items, the default menu item appearance, specific individual menu items, and the hover effect a menu item should display when it is moused over.

WebDropDown - NEW!

Templatable Drop Down – Whether you use it as a combo box or a multi-column drop down, the flexibility of its template support, ASP.NET AJAX load on demand capabilities, and data binding make WebDropDown the last dropdown control you will ever need.

Single and Multi-Selection – Your users can select one or multiple items from the drop down list, as necessary. These item values are furnished back to you in an easily parsed manner. At any time, one item in the drop down can be the active item and is shown with a distinguished style that sets it apart from non-active items, or selected items.

Auto-Filtering – Give users a suggestive hint as they type in a value, and they can choose an item from the drop down that much more quickly saving them time and making them more productive. As the user types, the matching text in drop down items below are automatically highlighted to call attention to themselves.

Auto-Sorting – Drop down items can appear automatically sorted, making it easier for the user to find the item they wish to pick from an alphabetical listing.

Automatic Positioning – No matter what orientation you place the drop down in on your form, its intelligent auto-positioning will open its contents in the direction that ensures you of the easiest user experience.
