Resumen

Sitefinity Community Edition by Telerik

Extensible Web content management. Sitefinity is a Web Content Management System, which provides an open, extensible environment of visual construction and management of public sites, intra- and extranets. Although it offers a highly usable 100% WYSIWYG environment for non-technical business users, Sitefinity is built with the developer in mind. It uses an open modular architecture and a fully-exposed API, which allows web-developers to modify out-of-the-box functionality, add new modules, and reuse available ASP.NET components from the comfort of Visual Studio® .Net. Please download the FREE Community Edition from the Evals & Downloads section.

Native ASP.NET Application

telerik Sitefinity is a native ASP.NET application, which completely leverages the performance, scalability, and extensibility of the Microsoft .NET platform.

Open Modular Architecture

To avoid the typical technology lock-in Sitefinity utilizes an open architecture, consisting of self-contained independent modules. As a developer you will be able to build-up on the provided modules, add new, or even customize the existing ones with respect to the requirements of your application.

Easy Integration and Reuse of Standard ASP.NET Controls

The building blocks of Sitefinity are standard ASP.NET controls, which you may have written or purchased from a third party. Simply upload the relevant files with the integrated Control Uploader tool, or add them directly to the provided project file in Visual Studio .Net. Then all you have to do is select the control from the list.

Side-by-Side Development in Visual Studio .Net

Every Sitefinity web-site has an automatically generated Visual Studio .Net project file, which could be accessed from the Project Manager. It allows you to do side-by-side development and test the results on-the-fly in the working project. Developers can write new user controls, modify the functionality of existing ones, or reuse readily-available code. At the end all they have to do is build the project and refresh the browser window.

Ability to Parameterize User Controls from the Browser

telerik Sitefinity features a unique tool called the Property Grid. It enables developers and end-users to configure user controls directly from within the browser. It looks similarly to the Properties Window in Visual Studio.NET and eliminates the need for off-line configuration and upload of the control files.

For example, you can change the dimensions of a certain r.a.d.editor or make it's toolbar appear on the page, rather than be floating. You can also change the appearance (theme) of the navigation controls, their expand effects, etc. If a control can be configured off-line in Visual Studio .Net you can configure it on-line with the Property Grid and see the result immediately.

Features the Award-Wining telerik r.a.d.controls

telerik Sitefinity is shipped with all ASP.NET components from the award-winning telerik r.a.d.controls suite. They enable developers to rapidly build the interface of the web-site project and enjoy tight integration with the core CMS application.

WYSIWYG Editor (r.a.d.editor) - a Wordcontent editor, which allows even non-technical user to author and manage HTML content as easily as writing a document

Treeview (r.a.d.treeview) - facilitates the display and management of hierarchical data structures, which makes it very convenient for web-site navigation

Drop-down Menu (r.a.d.menu) - streamlines the creation of any thinkable DHTML drop-down menu - horizontal, vertical, pop-up, scrollable, with classic outlook or with customized fonts, images, and fading effects

Side-panel (r.a.d.panelbar) - a versatile component for building collapsible side-menu systems, which cannot be achieved with drop-down menus

DHTML Content Rotator (r.a.d.rotator) - enable the easy creation of stock tickers, news scrollers, product spotlights, weather forecasts, testimonials, running promotions, banner ads, etc.

Multilingual Spellchecker (r.a.d.spell) - add spellchecking capabilities to the r.a.d.editor or any server/client editable element (textbox, div, iframe). Currently supports 19 languages

Tabstrip (r.a.d.tabstrip) - a tabbed interfaces in ASP.NET applications: CSS-based text-only tabstrips, fully graphical, scrollable, vertical, aligned, or multi-level nested tabstrips

Charting Component (r.a.d.chart) - a business-oriented charting component with a focus on development productivity and ease-of-use

Fully Exposed API for Complete Control and Extensibility

Sitefinity exposes a comprehensive set of methods and events, which allow developers to handle and customize almost every aspect of the application: programmatically create users and set permissions, build layouts and pages, detect and set cell content, etc. A developer guide with a full API reference and code examples is provided to get you started.

Search-Engine Friendly URLs

Although Sitefinity uses a single page (Default.aspx) to handle all page requests, it employs URL rewriting to emulate real .aspx pages. This allows search engines to fully index Sitefinity web-sites and properly pass the ranks to all sub-pages. At present, the URL addresses are based on the page global ID, but this module can be easily replaced with one based on Page names for example.

Upload User Controls Without Using FTP

telerik Sitefinity features an integrated user control uploader for direct transfer to the remote production server. This enables even non-technical users to upload user controls with no code-behind directly from the browser. However, for security purposes, you have to manually upload the assemblies (DLL files) of all custom controls, which have code-behind.

Support for Public Users and Restricted Site Areas

Sitefinity v2.0 introduces the concept of "Public Users". Those are the general visitors of the web-site, who can be organized in Groups with different access permissions for certain site areas. As a result, you can create restricted pages that are only accessible to a given group of Public Users. To make the development process easier, Sitefinity is shipped with customizable controls for Registration, Log in, and Password Change. The process of setting Public Users and their Permissions is identical to the way you set CMS Users and Permissions.

Support for Gecko-Based Browsers

Sitefinity v2.0 now provides support for Gecko-based browsers (Mozilla, Netscape and Firefox) not only for viewing the published site, but also for content management (Edit Site and Control Panel). Edit Mode - Internet Explorer 5.5+, Netscape 4, 7+, Mozilla 1.3+, Firefox 1.0+ View Mode - Internet Explorer 5.0+, Netscape 4, 7+, Mozilla 1.3+, Firefox 1.0+, Safari 1.2.1+, Opera 7.5+, Konqueror

Support for Multilingual Sites

With Sitefinity v2.0 you can now easily build and manage multilingual sites. The application provides intuitive interfaces for localization of the page names, meta data, as well as the complete HTML content of Editable Cells.

"Show Differences" Tool

Sitefinity v2.0 includes a new tool, which helps Approvers to easily track the changes in the HTML content of Editable Cells. The Show Differences tool is similar to the Revision Control mode of Microsoft Word, marking (in green) all new content as well as all deleted content (strokethrough in red). This functionality is available for all present languages.

Workflow for Third-Party Modules

Third-party modules and user controls (such as News, Testimonials, etc.) can now pass their content through the Sitefinity Workflow mechanism. This will help content contributors in ensuring the correctness and integrity of custom content elements (e.g. news items), since they will not go Live without passing the approval cycle.

Support for User Friendly URLs

Sitefinity can now use page names instead of GUIDs. This singinficantly improves the user experience and comprehension about the site structure. Best of all, this does not affect neither the performance nor the search-engine compatibility of your site.

Localizable Control Panel

The localization of the Sitefinity Control Panel is based on a set of files in XML format. By default Sitefinity comes localized in English and the English set of localization files files can be translated and used for localization in other languages.

Web Service Connector

Sitefinity provides out-of-the-box a Web Service Connector control, which can be used for consuming data from remote Web Service providers. The Web Service Connector interface provides significant flexibility for creating templates and controlling the appearance of the data. For more sophisticated Web Services you can even call remote methods with parameters, provided in the Page query string.

Improved API

The Sitefinity API has been substantially improved in v2.0. DataTables and DataSets are no longer used, being replaced by meaningful collections and classes. For more information see the Developers Guide.
