Build secure client and server Windows Sockets applications without learning the complexities of the Windows Sockets API. SocketWrench Secure Edition consists of a library and ActiveX control which uses the Windows Sockets API to provide basic TCP/IP networking functionality to your application. Standard and secure (SSL) client and server capability is provided through the component, as well as support for both TCP and UDP protocols. Three standard security protocols are supported: Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) versions 2.0 and 3.0, Private Communication Technology (PCT) version 1.0 and Transport Layer Security (TLS) version 1.0. The package also includes a Remote Access Services (RAS) component which can be used to easily create and manage dial-up networking (SLIP or PPP) connections.

What's new in SocketWrench V6.0?

SocketWrench 6.0 has been released and offers developers exciting new features, improved performance and full compatibility with the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 operating systems. The version 6.0 components are compatible with version 4.0 and 5.0 and support side-by-side deployment, simplifying the upgrade process so that you can spend your time improving your software, not rewriting it.

The SocketWrench Secure Edition contains an ActiveX control for use programming languages such as Visual Basic, FoxPro and PowerBuilder. It also contains a standard dynamic link library (DLL) which can be used with virtually any programming language, both those supported in Visual Studio as well as third-party languages. The .NET development platform supports the use of COM objects and unmanaged DLLs, which allows you to develop applications using SocketWrench Secure in .NET as well.

The component can be used on all Windows platforms from Windows 98 to Windows 2003 Server. Standard and secure (SSL) client and server capability is provided, as well as support for both TCP and UDP protocols and the complete Windows Sockets API. Virtually any type of application which needs to communicate with another, either on a local network or over the Internet, can be written using the SocketWrench Secure Edition.

SocketWrench Secure Edition has been completely redesigned and implemented, taking advantage of our experience in building client and server components for the Windows platform. The interface has been significantly simplified, while retaining all of the features and functionality that developers expect. Some key new features are:

Support for secure communications using standard secure sockets layer (SSL) technology
Improved performance and reliability, this new version has been redesigned so that there is less overhead, reduced memory requirements and higher overall throughput
Improved interface to make development using SocketWrench Secure easier and more straight-forward; fewer lines of code are needed to accomplish the same task
Simplified distribution means that you only need to redistribute the single SocketWrench Secure component; there are no external third-party file dependencies which can complicate installations on target platforms

In addition to these new features, the SocketWrench Secure Edition continues to provide the same advantages offered by previous versions. There are no runtime licensing fees, and there are no restrictions on the number of products which may be developed using SocketWrench Secure.
