Excel-like cell-oriented grid, light-weight virtual data-bound grid. Essential Grid offers a full-featured grid control with extensive support for grouping and displaying hierarchical data. The Grouping Grid Control uses Syncfusion’s industry-leading Essential Grouping engine to provide a Web grid with support for grouping, nested tables, and foreign-key relations. Essential Grid also offers a display-only cell-oriented grid control for cases where a Windows Forms-like, rich, read-only grid UI is desired.

Cell-Oriented Grid

Excel-like features: Formula support, covered cells, merged cells, elaborate styles architecture to customize look and feel with ease. Excel-like selection and workbook mode are also available.

Cell customization: Nearly 30 cell types, ranging from checkboxes to nested-grid cells. Each cell’s look and feel (borders, text alignment, text-wrap, etc.) can be completely customized and values data-bound.

Virtual mode: This grid can also operate in virtual mode, with cell values retrieved on-demand only when the corresponding cells are rendered. Use this mode to populate the grid with custom data that are usually slow to retrieve.

Grouping Grid - This data bound grid offers support for grouping by columns, nested hierarchical views, preview rows, multi-row records, summary rows and columns, expression fields, stacked headers, etc. Data-bind to DataSets or simple lists.

Data views: This data-bound grid offers grouping-by-columns support, nested hierarchical views, paged views, filtered views, multi-row records, summary rows and columns, expression fields, conditional formatting, stacked headers, etc. Declaratively data-bind to DataSources including ObjectDataSources.

Look and feel: Several built-in skins allow you to easily create a professional-looking interface. CSS styles and templates can be used to fully customize the appearance of the grid.

AJAX features: Grid internally uses AJAX to efficiently update itself during sorting, grouping, etc. It can also be hosted within the ASP.NET AJAX UpdatePanel control.

User interaction: Multi-column sorting, column resizing, runtime grouping of one or more columns, filter bars, pager and navigation bars, etc. make for a very friendly user-experience.

What's new in Essential Grid 2008 Vol 3?

DateTime Format Parsing - Specify various DateTime formats for parsing user input in a DateTime cell value using the ParseFormats property.

Row Column Visibility - Check the presence of a set of rows and columns by obtaining dictionaries with various visible rows and columns using GridViewLayout.VisibleRowsList and GridViewLayout.VisibleColumnsList.

Performance Improvements - Performance under virtual-mode scenarios can be improved by using GridNewVolatileData implementation. Frequently accessed properties will be faster using the AllowViewStyleCacheBaseStyleValues property.

FormulaEngine Changes for the IF function - A new property has been added, AllowShortCircuitIFs, that indicates whether additional work should be done to guarantee the unused alternative is not computed in an IF function call. Currently, if an IF function call involves nested Functions in its arguments, all the arguments are evaluated. Setting this new property avoids the unnecessary calculation. Also, support for calculating an IF function with two arguments has been added.
