What's new in Syncfusion Essential Studio WPF 2009 Volume 3?
Essential Chart WPF
- Property Settings - A new property settings dialog box has been implemented. This enables users to customize a chart during run time. With this feature, customizing a chart's appearance is even simpler than before.
- Predefined Symbols in Series and Legend Items - Essential Chart now provides options to set both predefined and customized symbols. Adornment symbols can also be made to reflect in Chart Legends. Various symbols supported include the following:
- Ellipse
- Cross
- Diamond
- Hexagon
- Horizontal Line
- Inverted Triangle
- Pentagon
- Plus
- Square
- Triangle
- Vertical Line
- Custom
- Empty Points - Essential Chart now has the ability to allow "not a number" (NaN) or infinite values on a chart series without the need for filtering. These points can then be displayed or hidden by the user.
- Stacking Bar 100 Chart - A new chart type -- Stacking Bar 100 -- has been implemented. In this chart type, the cumulative value of each stacked element always totals 100. It is a great means of visualizing the relative contribution of each part to the sum of a whole series.
- Outliers in Box-and-Whisker Charts -Box-and-whisker charts can now render outliers that exceed the segment height. Outliers can either be drawn as other segments, or rendered as a bubble to display the difference between segments.
- Localization Support - Essential Chart now provides the ability to adapt to the language and culture of a particular country or region. The default "en-US" culture satellite assembly called Syncfusion.Chart.WPF.Resources.dll is available to utilize the localization support for any desired culture.
Essential Diagram WPF
- Grouping and Ungrouping - Essential Diagram for WPF supports grouping and ungrouping nodes. The grouping feature enables the application of the same edits to a number of objects, while retaining their individuality. All operations performed on the group also affect the individual items in the group. However, any item in the group can also be edited individually. When ungrouping, the items in the group again act as individual entities.
- Context Menu - Essential Diagram for WPF supports the display of context menus for nodes and connectors. These can be viewed by right-clicking a node or connector. The z-order commands, grouping commands, and delete commands, are added to the context menu as default options.
- Cyclic Paths in Hierarchical-Tree Layout -Essential Diagram for WPF provides support to create cyclic paths in the case of hierarchical-tree layouts. A cycle is said to exist if nodes are connected in a chain so that the last node in the chain is connected to the first node -- for example, n1-->n2-->n3-->n1 is a cycle.
- Alignment Commands - Essential Diagram for WPF supports the alignment of selected objects on a page. The alignment commands allow users to align selected objects (nodes and connectors) with respect to the first object in the selection list. The Align Left, Align Center, Align Right, Align Top, Align Middle, and Align Bottom commands can be used to achieve this functionality. Essential Diagram for WPF provides support to place selected objects on a page at equal intervals from each other. The Space Across and Space Down commands can be used to achieve this functionality. Essential Diagram for WPF supports making selected objects on a page, such as nodes and connectors, equal in size. The Same Width, Same Height, and Same Size commands can be used to achieve this functionality.
- Symbol Palette Customization - The appearance of the symbol palette can now be customized to suit any application. Several properties have been added to the SymbolPalette class to enable customization.
Essential Gauge WPF
- Custom Shape Scale Support for Labels -Essential Gauge's labels now support custom shapes for scales. These are handy for creating applications such as fuel meters and any form of customized scales in a gauge.
- Frame Fill Colors with Brush Support -Essential Gauge frame-fill colors now support Brush types instead of Color types. This enables users to apply any brush, such as an image brush, to gauge frames.
Essential Tools WPF
- Split Button - Individual ToolTip Support -Now the Ribbon Split button has a feature to set individual ToolTips for the Toggle button as well as the Drop-Down button.
- QAT Toolbar - Automatic KeyTip Support -Essential Tools for WPF now supports automatic accelerator shortcuts to the QAT items. This makes Syncfusion's QAT more dynamic and user friendly.
- Custom Menu Items in QAT Drop-Down Menu -Essential Tools now supports hosting custom menu items in a QAT drop-down menu in the Ribbon Instance. This enables an Outlook 2007-style appearance for the QAT.
- Vector Images - Our WPF library is shipped with vector-image icons, which have no fixed resolutions. This means that they can be sized to any dimension without the loss of image quality. The current release has added over 200 new icons to the existing categories: Banking, Finance, Computers, Education, and E-commerce. In addition, new categories such as food, weather, construction, and home appliances, have also been added.
- Vector Image Utility - A utility for exporting vector images is included. This can be used to export flexible image sizes and various formats that can be used across platforms such as Windows Forms and Web applications.
Essential Grid for WPF
- Clipboard Copy and Paste - Essential grid for WPF enables the copying and pasting of cells from the grid to text, or to any other format using the internal grid-cell data structure.
- Collection View Grouping - The Grid Data Control supports Collection View grouping with interactive drag-and-drop.
- Calculate Summary - The Grid Data Control supports the calculation of summaries for tables, groups, and group captions. Custom summaries can also be plugged in easily.
- Performance Improvements - Essential Grid now supports a virtual mode of loading data from different data sources. Easily plug in any flat table representation to display with the Grid Data Control.
- Unbound Columns - Add unbound columns with custom formatted text.
- Stacked Headers - Add stacked headers with multicolumn spans to specify groups in column headers.
- Multicolumn Sorting - The Grid Tree control now supports multicolumn sorting.

Essential Gauge WPF
- Logarithmic Scales - Essential Gauge’s scales now have label values with logarithmic support. A scale's label can be made to display logarithmic values by setting the IsLogarithmic property to true. The base to which the logarithmic values should be calculated can be set by providing appropriate values to the Log Base property.
- Scale Label - Number Format - The scale's label values now have number format information support to set custom number formats for the scale's labels. For instance, the number of decimal digits can be specified when displaying logarithmic values.
- Source Code and Class Reference - Syncfusion source codes have been modified to meet StyleCop standards. User Guide and Class Reference sections have been completely revamped to provide users with a clear walk-through of the features and Gauge usage.
Essential Tools WPF
- Sync-Orange Color Scheme - In addition to the existing Office 2007 color schemes, Skin Manager now includes a new set of skins, called Sync-Orange, with the existing skin library. This new Sync-Orange scheme can be implemented with all the controls of an application, providing a bright, one-of-a-kind appearance.
- Check List Box - The CheckListBox control is a list of items with a check box next to each item. It is supported with multi-selection and built-in skins.
- Tab Splitter - A Tab Splitter splits tab items into two panels that can be resized and repositioned horizontally or vertically. It allows dragging and dropping a tab item. Using this functionality, it is possible to implement the VS 2008-style split view of tab groups.
- Vector Images - The Syncfusion WPF library ships with vector image icons, which have no fixed resolution. This means they can be boosted to any dimension without losing image quality. In the current release, Syncfusion have added many new icons to the existing categories of icons. In addition, two new categories of e-commerce and education icons have been added.
- Project and Item Template with VS 2008 IDE - Essential Tools WPF now includes project and item templates support for Syncfusion WPF, with which the chromeless window, ribbon window, and wizard application can be created directly without making any manual assembly reference. Users can simply create any Syncfusion WPF window-based application from the libraries and save on development time.
- Skin Support for Wizard Control - Complete logic for applying a skin to a wizard control has now been implemented. Skins such as Office 2007 and Blend provide a professional and customized appearance to wizard-based applications.
- Docking Manager Adorner - Essential Tools WPF now supports a special adorner for floating windows for the Docking Manager Framework. This window can be used in a Web-based Docking Manager Application (XBAP), and it provides a smoother experience in docking and floating windows.
Essential Chart WPF
- ToolTip - Essential Chart now provides support for customizing ToolTips. With this feature, you can add desired text to ToolTips and alter their appearance settings.
- Toolbar - A built-in toolbar has now been implemented for the chart control, which can be made visible.
- Source Code and Class Reference - Syncfusion source codes have been modified to meet StyleCop standards. User Guide and Class Reference sections have been completely revamped to provide a clear walk-through of the features and Chart usage.
Essential Edit WPF
- Expand Markup Languages - Essential Edit WPF now supports expand and collapse functionality for markup languages such as XAML and XML. This enables users to expand or collapse content within a region or module of a program. This feature enhances user-readability of large markup programming codes.
- Source Code and Class Reference - Syncfusion source codes have been modified to meet StyleCop standards. User Guide and Class Reference sections have also been completely revamped to provide users with a clear walk-through of the features and Edit usage.
Essential Diagram WPF
- Drag-and-Drop Line Connectors - Line connectors can now be dragged and dropped onto a diagram from the Symbol Palette, just like nodes. They can then be dragged to make connections to the nodes on the diagram page.
- Z-Order Commands - Essential Diagram WPF provides support to change the order of objects on a page. The ordering commands allow users to change the z-index value of selected objects (nodes and connectors) on the page. The BringToFront, SendToBack, MoveForward, and SendBackward commands can be used to achieve this functionality.
- Nudge Commands - Essential Diagram WPF provides support to nudge nodes. The MoveUp, MoveDown, MoveLeft, and MoveRight commands provide this functionality. The corresponding arrow keys can also be used.
- User Guide and Class Reference - Essential Diagram’s User Guide and Class Reference have been completely revamped to provide users with a clear walk-through of the features and Diagram usage.

Essential Tools WPF
- Ribbon Designer Support - The Ribbon instance now ships with designer support for both Visual Studio 2008 and Expression Blend. This sophisticated functionality makes the Ribbon UI very user friendly and makes creating applications easy.
- Color Picker with Built-In Color Bar - The Color Picker control now ships with a built-in color bar containing a full line of colors. With this feature, you can select a desired color by using the options on the color bar. This color bar automatically updates other colors based on their values.
- Dock Fill - The Dock Fill feature is now implemented in the Docking Manager. This feature enables filling the current widow with a dock window.
- Dock Ability - The Docking Manager now supports the Dock Ability feature, allowing windows to be docked to the left, right, top, or bottom.
- Document Container - The Document Container now has various layouts for MDI documents. It allows the application of different layouts to the MDI within it.
- Navigate Years - With Calendar Edit, you can now easily navigate among the different calendar years.
- ToolTip - Calendar Edit has an option for applying ToolTips to dates. It allows setting up a ToolTip in two ways – by row and column index or by day, month, and year.
- Scroll Buttons with Data Template - Calendar Edit has implemented scroll buttons with data-template support. Now the scroll buttons used to navigate between months in Calendar Edit can be customized using a data template.
- Notify Icon - Notify Icon is a new control implemented with different animation and shape support. It allows adding an icon to the notification tray of a system with different animation and shape formats.
- Designer Support - Designer support for the Groupbar control has been implemented for both Visual Studio 2008 and Expression Blend. This sophisticated functionality makes the Groupbar UI very user friendly and allows you to create applications with ease.
Essential Chart WPF
- New 3-D Chart Types - Three-dimensional modes for chart types have been added to this release; they include Spline, Fast Line, Step Line, Spline Area, Pyramid, and Funnel. They contain 3-D chart features, such as rotating mouse drag, and zooming with the mouse wheel. They also enable switching between 2-D and 3-D modes during run time.
- Date-Time Range Support - Axes with date-time data types can now have range and interval settings.
- Enhanced Stripline - Striplines can now be enhanced using options to rotate text and set text background color.
- Designer Support - The Chart control now comes with designer support for easy usage. With this feature, users can drag and drop a Chart control from the Tool Box to the window and populate the control with data.
Essential Diagram WPF
- Rulers on Zooming and Panning - Support for Rulers when zooming and panning is now included in this release. The ability to dynamically change intervals for zooming and negative rulers for panning has also been incorporated.
- Rulers Indicating Different Units of Measurement - Measurement-units support for a diagram page has been added. Rulers are automatically updated to reflect the values of the selected measurement unit.
- Label Editor for Connectors - Label Editor support has been added for connectors. This feature is illustrated in the following image. Details about the nature and condition of a connection between the objects of a diagram can be explained using this feature. Different orientations of a tree layout have been included. The layout manager lets you orient a tree in many different directions and can be used to create many sophisticated arrangements.
- Events Fired on Node - Event Mechanism support is now included for diagrams. The Diagram control has several events that respond to actions performed on nodes and connections. The following image illustrates the Drag Start and Drag End events that are fired for the node “New Client.”
- Page Load - Serialization support for a diagram page is now included. Essential Diagram WPF supports saving a diagram page as a XAML file. On loading, the page is displayed in the current view with all its nodes and connections. This Load and Save feature allows users to save the diagram page for future use. A user can continue working on the page by loading the appropriate XAML file.
Essential Gauge WPF
- Linear Gauge - The Linear Gauge has powerful functionalities such as State Indicator and Orientation; it also contains different scales and pointer types with label ticks. Additionally, it includes complete customization options using the style and template properties of the Linear class.
- Digital Gauge - Digital Gauge includes new and powerful functionalities such as seven-segment display, fourteen-segment display, segment space, and width. This allows complete customization using style and template properties of the Digital class.
Essential Edit WPF
- Expand and Collapse - Essential Edit WPF now supports outlining the content of a program. It lets users expand or collapse content within a region or module of a program, enhancing the readability of large codes.
- Read-Only Support - Essential Edit can now be used in read-only mode. With this feature, editing file or program content can be prevented. This feature lets users display programming codes with syntax highlighting in a Windows or XBAP application.
Essential Shared WPF
Custom Color for Skin Manager - The Custom Color feature in the Skin Manager can effectively enhance the appearance of an application. With this feature, the appearance of an application can be manipulated and managed based on the chosen Solid Color Brush and Skin.The Custom Color feature can be applied to both Syncfusion and Microsoft controls in WPF.

Docking Framework: Lets you easily incorporate VS.NET 2005-style docking in your WPF applications. The docking panes can be rendered in several modes, including docked, tabbed, floating, auto-hide, etc. Use built-in skins or plug in custom skins using templates.
Ribbon Control: Create Office 2007-like Ribbon menus, Application Menu, Quick Access Toolbar, and the Quick Access Dialog for end-user customization. The ribbon can be displayed in small or large icons mode, KeyTips (the tips that appear when the user presses the Alt key) and Tooltips can be displayed and RightToLeft mode is also supported. Use built-in skins or specify custom colors for the controls.
