Telerik's r.a.d. window lets you add 'web 2.0' usability features to your ASP.NET application. By replacing JavaScript pop-up windows with DHTML windows, r.a.d. window makes your website simpler for users to access and navigate. For the developer, r.a.d. window makes life easier because DHTML windows are easier to control and manage than browser or Javascript windows opened by a web page. Developers set properties to control window modality, size, and other important window attributes and behaviors.

A number of new websites include 'browser in a browser' functionality that lets you replicate the Windows desktop experience inside any web browser. The r.a.d. window component brings this 'browser in a brower' functionality to ASP.NET.

Adding a r.a.d. window to your .NET application is fairly straightforward: simply paste a few JavaScript functions into your web page- examples are provided in the product documentation- and add the r.a.d. window server-side tag. By assigning a few control properties, you tell the DHTML window (a) when to open based on an event (e.g. user mouse click on another object), (b) what HTML or ASPX page to open in the DHTML window, and (c) what to do when the window closes (JavaScript function to execute).

The r.a.d. window is fully Atlas / Microsoft AJAX compliant. You can pass values from a r.a.d. window back to the parent window, allowing the DHTML window and main web page to communicate. For example, you may want the DHTML window to tell the main window to load another URL when the DHTML window is closed. This type of cross-window parameter passing is a built-in feature of the r.a.d. window.

Finally, Telerik may have the best technical support of any component vendor. In my experience, if you post a question to their forum, you will receive a high quality and thoughtful response within 12-36 hours. I have never had a problem receiving outstanding support and am surprised by the lengths that Telerik goes to in helping their customers. Even complex implementation questions seem to never phase their support team.
