What's New in Code Complete 4.2

• Change to evaluation version - the previous evaluation copy of Code Complete limited the number of columns for each table to 5.  This limitation has been removed and the evaluation copy is now fully functional. You can generate fully working Windows, Web, WPF and Silverlight projects
• Improvements for Firebird - Code Complete now supports Boolean and GUID data types and Identity and Timestamp fields.

Code Complete's code generation process follows very strict guidelines for layered architecture and well established design patterns at the business layer, data layer and presentation levels.

• No need to learn another environment: Code Complete is fully integrated as Add-in in Visual Studio (2005 and 2008). It consists of single tool window integrated within Visual Studio .NET. The tool window contains a toolbar and a context menu that provides all the necessary tools to perform your functions. When you generate your application using Code Complete, the generated files are included and embedded within your projects ready to start testing and debugging
• Create highly customized .NET applications in minutes: Using an integrated project wizard Code Complete generates highly customized configured XML metadata projects based on a database schema. The solution wizard guides through the simple steps of generating fully functional .NET applications based on your configured metadata. You can use Code Complete to generate Windows, Web and Ajax applications
• Support for all major databases: Code Complete can generate the XML metadata from a database model. Code Complete supports all the major databases: SQL Server, Oracle, MSAccess, DB2, Sybase, MySql, Firebird, PostgresSQL, SQLite, VistaDB, Oledb and Odbc
• Tier Based Architecture and support for CSLA.NET Framework: Applications generated by Code Complete strictly adhere to the basic principles of multi-tiered architecture and well established design patterns. All the business classes and collections generated by Code Complete are based on the widely used CSLA.NET business framework. Code Complete can generate a data access layer based on an ADO.NET (CRUD operations) model
• Template Based Code Generation: Every class and collection generated by Code Complete is based on two XSLT Templates. The designer template generates the designer class that contains the generated code and the second template generates an empty partial class that can be used to write custom code. All the XSLT templates are customizable and can be edited in Visual Studio accessible via the Code Complete Explorer
• Avoid Code Orphaning: To avoid code orphaning, Code Complete generates two partial classes for all the Business and Data Access Layer classes. The designer classes contain the automatically generated portions of your application and the non-designer classes are generated only once, typically the very first time each class is generated. Once the individual non-designer class has been created, it is never overwritten, thus making it safe to add your own code to and modify these classes. Only the automatically generated designer classes portions of your application are ever regenerated; the non-designer classes are never regenerated, preserving your code customizations
• Stored Procedures Generation: Code Complete can generate stored procedures by just checking an option in the project configuration screen. The templates for generating the stored procedures are included in the folders specific to each supported database and can be accessed via the Code Complete Explorer
