You can download messages, just download headers, check how many messages you have without even downloading anything and much more. POP3 Wizard also has built-in support for decoding file attachments, getting HTML and Plaintext message bodies, headers and more. You can connect with SSL and also have the option of asynchronous operation. Simple and effective and comes with many examples for different languages.
This product is also available as part of the Internet Protocol Wizard ToolPack and the Mail Wizard Toolpack.
