Each year ComponentSource presents awards to our Top 100 Publishing partners and for the Top 100 Products based on their total sales $ value. In mid-March ComponentSource will again announce the awards based on sales made in 2008. As with last year we will be announcing our global awards and also specific awards for the Japanese market.

These awards are regarded by many people as one of the best industry barometers available to allow you to view your progress in the software component and developer tool market. The reason for this is probably two fold - first the awards are based on real sales made to real customers and second the awards reflect global sales, so give a very accurate picture of the worldwide success of a product or publisher. If you want to see how other publishers and products performed in 2006 & 2007 - here are the links you need to use:

Here are 3 or 4 ideas for you to consider to help boost your sales right now and during the rest of 2009.

  1. WinForms to WPF. If you have already got a .NET WinForms edition of your product - then create a Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) edition as soon as possible. We are already seeing strong sales for WPF products - so the tranisition from WinForms to WPF is well underway and you can make money right now by launching a WPF edition of your existing WinForms product.
  2. Likewise if you have already got an ASP.NET WebForms edition of your product - then create a Silverlight edition. The transition from ASP.NET WebForms to Silverlight is not as strong as for WinForms to WPF at present - but we would expect to see this accelerate towards the end of 2009 - so it would be good to be ready. If you plan to do both a WPF and Silverlight edition of your product - do the WPF edition first, as you will be able to sell it right now and make more money in 2009.
  3. 64 bit? Microsoft recently announced various Beta programs for Windows 7 and other related products. We read some Web site articles that said that 25% of the downloads had been for the 64bit editions! We found this to be a surprisingly high % figure - so maybe you need to bring your 64bit support plans further to the front of the queue?
  4. SharePoint. We have been saying that SharePoint products are important for quite a while now and many people are launching XYZ for SharePoint editions and brand new WebParts products. We already have more than 60 SharePoint products on our Web site and our SharePoint Store is growing faster than any other product store right now. So don't miss out - create a SharePoint edition, WebPart or utility now!
