Many of you ask for advice on licensing and pricing from us and quite often we find that publishers initially undervalue their products. This can be a serious mistake – as you cannot expect a Corporation to believe that you have a serious product for their mission critical application – if it only costs $149. So how do you know if your current product price is below or above average? And should I therefore be increasing the value of my software product by raising the price? A useful piece of data for you to know maybe our average order value here at ComponentSource – which in June 2004 was $728. This is not a “blip” it is fairly typical and shows that a large number of our products and orders are in excess of $728.
