We have all seen the news about the sale of CodeGear to Embarcadero Technologies by Borland, a move that served to highlight the impact of Eclipse, with JBuilder 2008 now based on the Eclipse 3.3 open source framework. Rather than view the Eclipse platform as bad news for commercial software product companies, why not look at Eclipse as an opportunity to reach a new commercial audience? The Eclipse platform is growing very fast and is being adopted by a wide number of developers inside small, medium and large organizations alike.
