Following on from the Visual Studio 2010 release in April, Microsoft followed up with the release of Microsoft Office 2010 in May and specifically Microsoft SharePoint 2010 on May 12th, 2010. On the same day we launched a new SharePoint Product Store to help our customers - find, try and buy the SharePoint tools and utilities that they need. We also launched a Web Part Store, to highlight the Web Parts that are now available in this fast growing area.

In case you don't know the recently launched Visual Studio 2010 IDE includes many new features to help developers create solutions for SharePoint, so we expect to see a lot of new demand for SharePoint products. An example of the new features aimed at SharePoint developers is shown in this excerpt from the reviewer's guide:
"Visual Studio 2010 will change the way you customize SharePoint.
• Build, test, and debug content types on your local development machine running a client Windows operating system.
• Pull data from various sources, including SharePoint lists, Web services, On-site databases, XML.
• Display data in Silverlight Web parts.
• Use SharePoint Explorer to view your SharePoint assets directly within the Visual Studio IDE.
• Automate deployment as the end-user, effectively removing the SharePoint administrator as the middleman."
Make sure you tell your Technical Account Managers: Paul Morgan, Paul Kerr, Enrique Perez or Thomas Moon about your new SharePoint tools or Web Parts and they will help get your products listed in the SharePoint Product Store and Web Part Store below. We have 100+ SharePoint compatible products listed already - so if you may wish to consider creating some Web Parts or SharePoint tools now!

We all tend to focus on getting our product information published on-line, in RSS news feeds and in email newsletters - to give a strong on-line presence. But if you can afford to do so, also appearing in print in catalogs and magazines is probably still a good idea, to help get your product known in the marketplace as a potential solution for a customer. We still send our best customers a printed paper catalog every quarter, containing all the "Updates" and product news, with featured products and full page adverts from our partners.
These catalogs are mailed to a global audience, we not only mail them in the US, we also mail special editions to the UK and to mainland Europe with pricing in GBP or EUR. We also create specific editions of the catalog in Korean and in Japanese for the Asia/Pac market. All of these catalogs are mailed to our customers, plus we do bonus insertions in major magazines around the world. For example, in April we inserted 40,000 catalogs with SD Times magazine in the US and a further 18,000 went out with Computer Weekly magazine in the UK.
So when you are making your product marketing plans - please don't forget about print advertising, it may help you reach customers in markets that you are struggling to reach right now. And remember we help to do all the translation work for you - you don't need to have Korean or Japanese artwork to reach this audience, we will do that work for you!
