DevExpress Report and Dashboard Server Licensing

How is the Report and Dashboard Server licensed?
You must purchase a license to the server itself and individual Client Access Licenses (CALs). If you purchase the Report and Dashboard Server it includes 15 CALs. Additional CALs can be purchased in bundles of 5.

What is a CAL and why do we need it?
A CAL (or Client Access License) represents the right to have an account in the Report Server. Each time a new user is added to the Report and Dashboard Server the available CAL count decrements. Once the CAL count reaches zero, you must either purchase additional CAL's, delete a user, or make a user inactive in order to create additional users.

Can I redistribute the Report and Dashboard Server royalty free?
No. Unlike other DevExpress .NET controls, the Report and Dashboard Server does not allow you to resell, lease, package, or otherwise distribute the Report Server to a third party.

Can I distribute the Report Server as part of an application I build?
The best way to distribute solutions you've built on top of the Report and Dashboard Server is to purchase a Report and Dashboard Server (with 15 CALs) on behalf of your client or have them purchase a license directly. If you purchased the Report and Dashboard Server as part of your Universal License you are not allowed to install your own copy of the Report and Dashboard Server on client premises as the software is licensed for your organization and not for your client's organization

Support is provided by one of two methods: either by a web-based system, or by email. DevExpress aim to respond to all questions within one business day. Support via phone, IM, or chat is not provided. The support team may, in certain circumstances, decide to access your development machine using Remote Desktop or similar. This is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Support is only provided to developers with a valid license.

FAQs

Is the license permanent (perpetual) or temporal (time-limited)?

All DevExpress licenses are permanent. You can continue to use the purchased product after your subscription period ends.

Can I redistribute the DevExpress Report and Dashboard Server royalty free?

No. Unlike DevExpress .NET controls, the Report and Dashboard Server does not allow you to resell, lease, package, or otherwise distribute the Report and Dashboard Server to a third party.

What happens after my subscription expires?

You can continue to use the product for as long as you require. Subscription expiry means that you will no longer be issued any product updates or new product releases. It is possible to renew your subscription at a lower cost than buying a new license.

Can I co-term (align) my existing licenses?

Yes - ComponentSource can arrange to co-term your licenses, even if they were not originally purchased through us. Please call us or send us a message to discuss your needs.

Can I purchase additional Client Access Licenses?

Yes - additional CALs are available in packs of five.

Can I buy an old product version?

DevExpress does not offer old versions for sale directly. However, purchasing a new license entitles you to download any previous version of the corresponding product for no additional fee.

Is Source Code available?

No. The Report and Dashboard Server is a compiled application (not a developer tool), so there is no source code.

Can a Client Access License be transferred?

Yes. The DevExpress Report and Dashboard Server uses the total count of active users to calculate the number of CALs used from the available pool. In order to free up a CAL you must either delete a user or make a user inactive.

What type of support do I get?

Technical Support is provided by the web-based DevExpress Support Center. DevExpress aims to respond to all questions within one business day. Support via phone, IM, or chat is not provided.
