.NET Components and .NET Controls
What is a .NET component? .NET components are pre-built pieces of software that you can re-use within the Microsoft .NET Framework (pronounced dot net framework) to help you create your application faster and hopefully with fewer bugs. By re-using .NET software components you not only save time and money, but you also get the opportunity to use other people's expertise and knowledge that will give your app extra functionality and features - fast. In this filtered view of our product catalog you will only find .NET compatible products, these products include both .NET Components and .NET Controls as .NET downloads for you to try and buy.
What is a .NET Control? A .NET Control has a visual aspect and can be used on a form or Web page to control the behavior of the user interface, so the user of the app can use a .NET UI Control to: enter data, click on a button, select from items displayed on a drop down list, draw a chart or graph based on data that they have entered into a .NET datagrid control etc.
What is the difference between a .NET Component and a .NET Control?
A .NET Component does not always have to have a visual interface, for example a .NET Component could work behind the scenes on a server and be used to calculate the tax due on an invoice for goods sold to a customer or to create a PDF version of that invoice and then email it to the customer's email address. .NET Controls are User Interface (UI) controls and they are a subset of .NET Components and as such all .NET Controls are therefore .NET Components, however, the reverse is not true, a .NET Component is not also a .NET Control, as a .NET Component does not have to have a visual or visible interface and it does not have to appear on a Windows form, Web Form or Web page as part of the UI.
In this .NET Components marketplace you will find both .NET Controls and .NET Components - available as commercial grade, quality .NET software component products. You will find ASP.NET controls that you can use as an ASP.NET developer for your latest Web site or Intranet project, VB controls for your Visual Basic app and there are numerous VB .NET control products listed here as VB.NET Controls. If you are a C# developer looking for a C# component or C# controls you will also find a wide selection of C# .NET controls, C# .NET component products and .NET custom control products that will meet your needs.
The range of .NET Component and .NET Control products includes: .NET WinForm Controls, ASP.NET Controls, ASP.NET AJAX Controls, .NET Class Components or .NET Class Libraries, .NET Web Services, .NET Compact Framework (.NET CF) products for mobile & hand-held device apps, .NET LINQ Classes for data access, WPF Controls or Windows Presentation Foundation Controls and Silverlight Controls for the latest .NET Framework 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 environments. Finally you will also find a special form of ASP.NET server control that can be used inside SharePoint, these are called Web Part Controls.
Our .NET component product range will give you a choice of controls for .NET, whether you are using them as a control in C# or as VB NET controls for your next VB project or in any other .NET development language or .NET based IDE that supports the use of .NET software components. There are well over 1,000 commercial grade, high quality .NET component based products available in this .NET component product gallery that you can search for, compare, download, review, try and buy!
Web Part Controls (SharePoint Web Parts)
What is a Web Part? A Web Part is software component for SharePoint, a pre-built piece software that can be reused by another programmer or end user on a Web page inside Microsoft SharePoint based Web sites or Intranets. SharePoint Web Parts are a type of ASP.NET control that can be used inside Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) applications. A Web Part is a SharePoint component and is used as a SharePoint UI Control or User Interface Control to allow the SharePoint user to interact with the application and the data displayed on the Web page.
For example, a SharePoint developer can create or buy a set of standard Web Part controls that a user can add to their SharePoint Web page to display data, enter data or tailor the filtering and display of that data to their needs. By reusing pre-built ASP.NET Web Parts, the user gets more functionality and a more efficient SharePoint application to use. The Web Part developer retains control over the Web Parts controls that are used and hence this helps with quality, performance and support of the SharePoint app.
As the WSS Web Parts are ASP.NET controls, a type of reusable software component for SharePoint, you are able to buy commercial grade, quality Web Parts that have been created and that are supported by other companies or teams. For example, rather than create your own charting Web Part in C#, you can do a Web Part download and get an ASP.NET Web Part charting control from our Web site and try it out. The third party Web Part chart has been built by an expert in the area of charting and graphing, as such it will be full of a wide variety of chart types that would take you a long time to design, code, build & test - as well as support. By reusing third party ASP Web Parts, you can get extra functionality into or onto your SharePoint Web Page fast.
In this filtered view of our main product catalog you will find a SharePoint Web Part gallery that is growing all the time, as more and more companies create .NET Web Parts for the SharePoint market. Some examples for you, you will find a calendar and scheduling Web Parts control as a Web Parts download that enables you to add calendar functionality that goes well beyond the basic calendar Web Part found inside SharePoint as standard. There are also SharePoint datagrids that allow you to display your data in many different ways, including complex hierarchical, master/detail or parent/child datatables for SharePoint users to use. The list of SharePoint controls available as SharePoint Web Part products is expanding all the time, satisfy the demand from SharePoint programmers and their SharePoint users.

These Visual Studio 2013 UI controls are augmented by non-visual Visual Studio 2013 components or Visual Studio 2013 libraries that can help a developer add many hidden features in Visual Studio 2013 applications running in the background. These non-visual components are commonly available as a Visual C++ library, Visual C++ Class library, Visual Basic library, Visual Basic Class library or as a Visual Basic custom control or ActiveX/OCX component.
An example of a visual Visual Studio 2013 control is Janus GridEx for .NET, a .NET UI control that allows you to create an MS Outlook style or look and feel to your latest Visual Basic project. A non-visual .NET component example is a Visual Studio 2013 compatible product that allows you to create and output files in different formats, such as: PDF, XPS, PostScript, RTF, HTML, XML to help solve file conversion and document storage needs.
Other examples of a visual Visual Studio 2013 control is BCGControlBar Professional, a Visual C++ Class Library that allows you to create an MS Office Ribbon style or look and feel to your latest Visual C++ project. A non-visual Visual C++ Class Library component example is a Visual C++ compatible product call IP*Works! C++ Edition that allows you to send emails via SMTP and POP or to transfer files reliably using HTTP or FTP Internet protocols from within your Visual C++ program.
