It has allowed us to extend the functionality in our own products without the significant investment to know and master all of the technology issues associated with AJAX. OPC Web Controls is a suite of real-time web controls to integrate into ASP.NET web applications. All of the components communicate with local and remote OPC Systems Services providing data from OLE for Process Control severs. We chose PowerWEB LiveControls components for the ability to render changed properties without having a page refresh. The implementation is much simpler than developing AJAX routines to provide the same functionality; the components are natively inherited to provide integration into our customers ASP.NET web applications. The few times I contacted technical support to implement LiveControls I found the answers to be responsive and right-on with the subject material. This great support together with a simple-to-use product cut the overall development time of our product to a fourth of the projected time. The sales staff was also very friendly and provided the exact solution we were looking for to implement the PowerWEB LiveControls product.

PowerWeb LiveControls For ASP.NET v1.2

I love these Controls! They've allowed me to create a web-application that I couldn't even dream of doing without them.

First, let me tell you, I am not a full-time, professional programmer. Instead, I am a Post-Production Editor who seems to have developed an annoying habit of saying - "Yeah, I'll give it a try!" - famous last words... Well, thanks to the Live Controls for ASP.NET, I have developed for my company, in a very short period of time, a very nice application that takes advantage of all that new fangled AJAX (Ansynchrononomous... er...Javascript ... thingamee...)... well.., that stuff. I couldn't create one of those if I spent years learning how to do it! But luckily I discovered the PowerWeb Live Controls - and before long I had created my first AJAX web-application - and it worked.

The LiveControls are basically a new collection of controls that are functionally identical to the standard ASP.NET versions in Visual Studio, but these new controls allow your ASP.NET pages to behave a whole lot more like standard .NET controls on a local application. It's great stuff, and easy too, especially with the latest release version. It has true drag&drop integration into Visual Studio 2003 Pro. - they operate as if they were the standard controls - but with some extra properties that make them "Live", so they operate quicker, you can tune how much data gets sent between server/client every time a user changes a control, and they can perform these actions without all that Page-Flicker, Clicking noise stuff that happens with regular ASP.NET controls.

I originally started using the tools at v1.1.2.2 - and even then, I found the controls quite easy to use - (this was only a few of months ago, I must add, and I'm not the cleverest when it comes to learning new stuff). So, after about a week of trying out the controls - (Dart have a Developer license policy that will install a 7-day License on the server when you compile - so go download it, and try it out!) - I decided they were pretty good for what I was trying to achieve, and bought a license for my company's web server.

It proved to be a great decision. As these controls have developed, they've actually become a complete replacement for almost all the regular web controls that I use - with a few exceptions, like the Calendar control (But even those controls can be Live enabled by using other useful Live Controls such as the "Live Wrapper" or the "Live Callback" controls).

Now they are at v1.2, these controls have really become very professional, and slick. The DataGrid is great, it is created, edited, and modified just like the standard DataGrid, but that "Live" ability makes it a total wonder to behold. All the standard VisStudio development methods still apply - and you don't need to write any JavaScript at all - and in the same time it takes to put together your normal web-application - you can have a AJAX enabled one - which is an amazing difference! Our clients couldn't believe their eyes when they saw what I had done - and I'm hardly a programmer at all!

Look, you should really try these controls out. I'm sure glad that I did. I would never have been able to have a fully AJAX enabled app. that is very responsive and very useful to our clients.

There's probably a whole lot of stuff about these tools that I still have not tried, and I am not an advanced programmer - ...but I think that's really my point!

Even I managed to make a wonderful AJAX web-application that our clients use every day, and they like it because it works just the same on their Macintosh OSX systems using Safari, as it does on a PC using IE6 or Netscape or Firefox, and it's nice and responsive when they really need it to be. Just being able to have that type of machine independent program available to our clients, helps to set us apart from our competitors.

Besides that - my boss now thinks that I'm a genius!
