What's New in DXperience v2008 vol 2?
New Component Libraries
XtraGauges - In its first release, the XtraGauges Suite provides you with linear, circular, digital and state indicator gauge types. Considering all predefined gauge layouts and visual styles, you have 84 ready-to-use gauge presets at your disposal. Each preset can be further customized if the default appearance does not fully satisfy your business requirements. The XtraGauges Suite uses vector graphics for all gauge types, so gauges can be freely resized while maintaining the highest level of quality.
XtraWizard - With XtraWizard, you can easily generate multi-step wizard dialogs that fully conform to Wizard 97 or Wizard Aero standards. Regardless of which standard you require, XtraWizard allows you to take full advantage of the DevExpress Skinning technology so you can deliver cutting-edge interfaces consistent with your application. Intuitive design-time experience allows you to create as many pages as you like and switch between them using navigation buttons – just as you would do at runtime. When placing controls or text onto individual pages, XtraWizard manages offsets and alignment and so you don't have to take care of little details and can be instantly more productive. Any linear wizard can be implemented with just a few mouse clicks. To create advanced experiences that include conditional navigation or data validation for specific pages, simply handle the appropriate events.
Windows Forms Skinning Library - New Skinning Option for Windows Forms Controls. DXperience v2008 vol 2 extends our Skinning engine with yet another unique visual style – the Summer Skin.
Common changes across all ASP.NET controls
Useful Classes for Client-Side Scripting - a new ASPxClientUtils class allowing you to easily perform typical client-side actions, including the following:
Determine web browser type
Work with arrays
Access an object's parent or child object
Obtain event parameters
Easily Transmit Data onto the Client -All DevExpress AJAX-enabled controls allow you to use callbacks to easily exchange data with the web server. Controls expose a JSProperties property, which allows you to declare custom properties for the client control. You can specify these property values on the server and then access them on the client...as you would with built-in properties.
Enabling/Disabling Controls and Control Elements on the Client Side - Previously, enabling or disabling a control or a particular control element required a round trip to the server. In v2008 vol 2 the ASPxEditors and ASPxperience Libraries allow you to change their enabled state or the state of their elements (e.g., tabs and menu items) on the client side, to reduce the number of round trips and increase web site responsiveness.
Distinguishing Between Callbacks and Postbacks - A new server-side IsCallback property has been added to our web controls. This property enables you to determine whether a control is taking part in callback processing.
Native Rendering for Data Editors - Some controls from the ASPxEditors Library (ASPxTextBox, ASPxMemo, ASPxListBox, ASPxComboBox and ASPxButton) can now be rendered as HTML INPUT elements. This allows you to enable native rendering for these elements to provide a Windows® style UI across your web site.
XtraCharts Suite
Group Summary Calculation -Chart control now fully supports aggregate function calculations against data groups. Traditionally, there are five built-in functions – sum, maximum, minimum, count and average. You can also implement custom aggregate functions by registering your own calculation procedure. As a result, your custom function will be available to end-users via the XtraCharts Wizard.
Top N Values Display - The option to display only a few of the most important values (such as sales for a few best-selling car models). Simply specify the number of best values you're interested in and XtraCharts will automatically filter out the rest. This feature also allows you to enable the remaining values (Others) – an aggregate value calculated against all records that were filtered out.
Smart Positioning for Value Labels - Although charts display axes with tick marks and can even display a grid within the diagram, it may be difficult for end-users to determine exact values or to compare them. In these instances, the best way to improve chart readability is to enable value labels. In the past, this solution has always had a disadvantage – if values were too close to one another, their labels could overlap. In version 2008 vol 2, XtraCharts introduces a new label layout mechanism. When enabled, this algorithm ensures neighboring labels won't overlap one another.
Trend Lines - XtraCharts v2008 vol 2 introduces a chart element that was missing from our views – Trend Lines. These lines connect a value (Open, Close, Low or High in Financial charts) of one argument with a value of another argument. You can also force a trend line to be extrapolated. As with many other elements in XtraCharts, Trend Lines can be hot-tracked and selected by end-users. Thus, you can allow end-users to delete or customize specific trend lines, as shown in our product demo.
Multi-Pane Charts - If you must display several series that share the same arguments or the same values, a few options are available to you:
Display several charts - This will require a lot of form space and provides no ability to share an argument axis.
Display several series in one diagram - This works fine if series can share both axes. If not, you will end up creating secondary axes, which make a chart unreadable if you have more than two series.
Display a multi-pane chart (new option available with XtraCharts Suite v2008 vol 2) - This chart type has multiple side-by-side charts that can share an axis - you can even enable the simultaneous scrolling of the charts.
Free Formatting in Chart Titles - Chart titles have improved with v2008 vol 2. You can now use HTML-like markup to format text fragments.
XtraReports Suite and XtraPrinting Library
Calculated Fields and Expression Editor Dialog - XtraReports Suite v2008 vol 2 allows you to add calculated fields to your data sources. Once you've added a field and specified its parent data table, you can build a formula to be used for value calculations. To make it easier to build these formulas and to enable calculated field generation via the End-User Designer, an advanced and easy-to-use Expression Editor dialog. With this dialog has been created, you can construct any expression that uses bound data field values, report parameter values and any constants. When a calculated field has been set up, you can use it as an ordinary data field anywhere across your reports. Its values can be simply displayed in report controls or can take part in data grouping, sorting or filtering.
Report Parameters - The new Report Parameters feature provides your end-users an extremely easy way in which to customize reports. Assume you want end-users to filter a report by a particular value. Previously, you would have to write custom code or use the End User Report Designer to enable this type of capability. The XtraReports Suite v2008 vol 2 allows you to solve this and many other similar tasks by using report parameters. Reports now expose a collection wherein you can add as many parameters as you require. For each parameter, you specify a data type, description and default value. For instance, if you need to show reports filtered by a particular date, then you add a single date-time parameter. Once it has been added, you can use this parameter anywhere in your report - in filtering expressions, in the formula builder dialog, etc. When end-users run a report, they first see a dialog allowing them to modify parameter values. Once proper values have been entered, they can click Submit to start actual report generation. The same parameter customization dialog can be invoked at any time while previewing a report. When changes are present, the report will be re-generated with the newly updated parameter values.
Running Totals and Percentage Calculations - In v2008 vol 2 two new summary types have been added - Running Sum and Percentage. The first is used when you need to accumulate summary values, i.e. each next value includes the sum of previous results. Note that XtraReports allows you to specify if the accumulation should continue across all report pages or if it should be reset with each new page or each new data group. The Percentage summary should be used for controls located in the Detail Band. If this summary type is applied, the control displays a percentage of the total summary value instead of its actual data. You can specify which summary should be considered to be 100% - total summary for the entire report or a summary calculated against the current page or data group.
Localizable Property Grid -To make the End-User Report Designer more user-friendly, we now allow you to completely localize its Property Grid, including property and control names. In addition to the localization benefits of this new feature, you are now able to substitute property names with phrases that will be better understood by end-users. In XtraReports v2008 vol 2, we have made this substitution and UI style the default option. You can revert to the previous UI by changing a single property.
XtraGrid Suite and XtraEditors Library
HTML Style Text Formatting in WinForms Controls - Historically, Windows Forms controls never allowed you to emphasize portions of their text. For instance, you couldn't apply bold formatting to a few words within a label text. With version 2008 vol 2, this ability has been added to the Label, Check Editor and Grid Control (for column and band headers). You can now specify captions for these elements using HTML-style markup – using the following tags: <br/>, <color>, <size>, <b>, <i> and <u>.
Server Mode Performance Improvement - If the XtraGrid is in server mode, focused row and selection are not restored after sorting, grouping or filtering operations. This significantly improves application performance. You can enable focused row and selection persistence by enabling a single option.
New Built-in Comparison Operator in Filtering Dialogs - The newly implemented Contains operator increases the count of built-in comparison operators. It allows less experienced end-users to easily find data and avoid using the Like operator which requires wildcard knowledge.
ASPxGridView and Editors Suite
LINQ Support Improvements -full support for data editing with three options that control whether end-users can edit cell values, add new records and delete existing rows.
Filter Row Menu - End-users can now select comparison operators to be used in filtering conditions.
New Comparison Operators - Five new built-in comparison operators are now available. They include the following: Greater Than, Greater Than or Equal, Less Than, Less Than or Equal, Not Equal.
Master-Detail Export -ASPxGridView now allows you to export master-detail data. When exporting, you can use one of the following options:
Export only master rows
Export all master rows and all details
Export all master rows and only expanded details
Page Headers and Footers -When exporting a grid's data, it's now possible to customize the content of page headers and footers. Both headers and footers provide three sections - with left, centered and right alignment. Every section can contain arbitrary text as well as service fields displaying the current date, page number, user name, etc.
URL Export - In previous versions, hyperlinks were always exported as plain text – with this release, they are automatically exported in hyperlink format.
ASPxTreeList Suite
Built-In Data Editing UI -The ASPxTreeList Suite now fully supports data editing. To allow end-users to modify cell values, simply add a Command Column and display required command buttons (Edit, Insert, Delete). To provide user-friendly data input, the TreeList control now ships with eight different data column types, each providing a particular cell editor - check box, spin editor, combo box, etc. These editors are controls from our ASPxEditors Library shipped with the ASPxTreeList Suite.
Edit Form Layouts - When an end-user switches to edit mode, the ASPxTreeList can use one of the following UI solutions:
In-line Editing - in this mode, editors are simply embedded into data cells.
Edit Form - When switching to this mode, an edit form appears below or instead of the edited node. This form is represented by a table, which automatically arranges label-editor pairs. You can customize this table by specifying the number of its columns by changing column and row span values of individual label-editor pairs.
Edit Form Template - It's also possible to construct edit forms manually via templates.
Node Validation and Error Indication - The ASPxEditors Library implements an advanced data validation mechanism that can now be used when editing ASPxTreeList nodes. One way to use it is to enable client-side validation so that errors are immediately shown to end-users (this of course requires additional scripts to be loaded on to the client). Another way is to validate data on the server. Two built-in error indication options are available in this mode. You can display error icons next to the editors with invalid values, or display the error node below the edit form, or both.
Node Drag-And-Drop -End-users can now drag and drop nodes either within an ASPxTreeList, or from the ASPxTreeList to an external control. A single option needs to be changed to enable this functionality.
Data Export - The ASPxTreeList Suite v2008 vol 2 supports data export to PDF, RTF and XLS formats.
XtraPivotGrid Suite
Inplace Editing and Data Validation - With v2008 vol 2, the XtraPivotGrid introduces more flexibility for those requiring data editing. You can now embed individual XtraEditors within cells in order to initiate in-cell editing. The XtraPivotGrid's Editor API is pretty much the same as that found in the XtraGrid or other DevExpress data editing control. You simply assign an editor to a pivot grid field and this editor appears in corresponding cells. All data editing features, including advanced Data Validation are available to you. Due to the unique nature of the XtraPivotGrid control, you must handle a specially designed event to save your changes to the database. By introducing data editing within XtraPivotGrid cells, you can now visually enhance your "reports." For instance, on-screen reports can be easier to analyze if you embed progress bars into individual cells.
OLAP Support Enhancements -If an OLAP cube contains KPI (key performance indicator) information, the XtraPivotGrid can now automatically recognize it and display it in an appropriate format. If a bound cube has multiple localized versions, the XtraPivotGrid automatically fetches a version appropriate for the current client culture. If this automatic localization option does not meet your requirements, you can control the localization process manually.
Running Totals - With v2008 vol 2, end-users have extended freedom in report customization and thus data analysis. You can now enable Running totals for required fields or even allow users to determine which total calculation mechanism is most appropriate for their current data analysis task. What's great about Running Totals in an interactive control like the XtraPivotGrid is that total values depend upon the order of values and, at the same time, end-users can change that order by sorting, grouping or filtering. Thus, with Running Totals you don't get one more way to present data. With this feature, end-users can produce an endless array of reports they couldn't generate previously.
XtraBars Suite
Collapsible Toolbars -Microsoft Office applications provide a way to hide toolbars and make them visible again. This functionality was replicated in the XtraBars Suite so that end-user experience can mimic that of Microsoft Office. Though the Microsoft Office approach seems simple enough, the XtraBars Suite now provides a more elegant solution in v2008 vol 2. Prior to this release and like in Microsoft Office, you had to right-click a toolbar then locate its name within the context menu and uncheck the menu item. From this point forward, end-users can simply double-click the toolbar's thumb - and by doing so, all toolbar items are hidden and thus the toolbar is minimized. Another double-click expands the toolbar to its previous state. Both expand and collapse operations are executed with a sliding animation effect.
Icons in Ribbon Tabs - In order to make Ribbon tabs more recognizable by end-users, you can now display icons within them.
XtraLayout Control
Minimum and Maximum Size Indication - When customizing form layout at design time, especially when many controls with size constraints are enabled, it's not always easy to understand why you can't make a particular control bigger or smaller. Your options can be limited without knowing if it's one control's minimum size constraint or another control's maximum size constraint preventing you from completing the desired operation. With this new release, XtraLayout Control makes it much easier to deal with these situations. When a control's width or height reaches its minimum or maximum constraint, an appropriate icon is displayed over that control. Thus you don't have to check the property grid for several controls to understand what's going on with your layout.
Layout Rotation - XtraLayout Control now allows you to rotate your layout by 90 degrees (much like switching the X and Y axes of a chart). While this operation isn't needed for data entry forms with lots of editors, it can be quite useful when you have a few large controls – like images or memo editors. If you feel that your application's users can benefit from this feature, you can enable it with just a single line of code.
ASPxHTML Editor
Integrated Spell Checker -The ASPxSpellChecker control has been integrated into the ASPxHTML Editor and thus enabled spelling validation in the editor's Design View. To check spelling, end-users can now simply press a built-in toolbar button.
Predefined Styles for Text Formatting - Previously, every toolbar button performed a very basic formatting operation – for instance, applying bold or italic formatting, changing background color, etc. Now you can create buttons that change multiple style attributes at once. This is extremely useful if end-users need to highlight multiple text fragments using the same style settings. To enable this functionality, all you need is to create a custom CSS style and expose it via a toolbar's specially designed dropdown editor.
Responding to Focus Changes via Client-side Events - Newly implemented client-side events allow you to respond to focus received or lost by the editor's Design View. For instance, this enables you to implement client-side user input validation when an end-user tries to leave the editor.
Complete XHTML compliance -With this release, HTML code entered into the editor's HTML View can be automatically validated and transformed into the XHTML 1.0 Transitional compliant markup. As a result, the editor's content is always kept safe, since the editor removes all potentially harmful code - unknown tags and attributes, script elements, client-side event handlers and URLs with script content. Automatic validation also helps to keep HTML code validity by correcting invalid tag hierarchies and changing invalid attribute values. The editor exposes several options allowing you to control which automatic transformations are required. You can also update HTML code manually by handling an appropriate event.
XtraScheduler & ASPxScheduler Suites
Full Support for iCalendar Data Exchange Standard - DevExpress Scheduler controls simplify information transmission between different platforms by implementing iCalendar RFC 2445 standard support. The support for this format allows you to easily exchange scheduling data between your application and the most popular calendars - Apple iCal, Lotus Notes, Google Calendar, Novell GroupWise, and Windows Calendar. XtraScheduler and ASPxScheduler support the main set of elements included in the iCalendar standard. Tasks and journaling capabilities of RFC 2445, as well as descriptors and extensions specific for a particular calendar application, are to be implemented in future versions.
Zooming - Improved the usability of the controls with methods that imitate zooming of the current view. The ZoomIn method displays content in greater detail, while its counterpart, ZoomOut, displays a more general view. Zooming is implemented by adjusting the time scale or changing the number of visible weeks (in Month View).
New Services - In v2008 vol 2, three new services have been implemented: One of them allows you to determine the control's state, i.e. whether the modal form, popup menu or inplace editor is opened, if appointments are being resized or dragged, and if you can start a data refresh operation. Two other services can be used to customize textual representation of date-time values within the Time Ruler, headers, tooltips and appointments. Thus, end-users can specify different display formats for different visual elements within the Scheduler’s view. This allows you to provide a more user-friendly interface. All services are now available in the ASPxScheduler Suite as well as its WinForms counterpart, the XtraScheduler Suite.
Reminders Processing - The following reminder management enhancements have been implemented in v2008 vol 2:
Reminder functionality is now fully supported by the ASPxScheduler Suite.
Reminders can now be selectively ignored when triggering alerts, meaning that they can be invoked on a per-user basis.
Often, users run the application only to check for alerts. Now an application can trigger all alerts immediately on startup, to avoid delays.
XtraScheduler - Calendar Navigation Extensions - If you own the XtraBars Suite, you can now use two new extension components that enable easy calendar management. Simply drop these components onto a form and they will automatically add proper toolbars or Ribbon tabs to your existing navigation system, so that end-users can change the active view or navigate the calendar.
ASPxperience Suite
Obtaining Element Settings from Data Fields - With this release, controls (such as the ASPxNavBar, ASPxMenu and ASPxTabControl) expose properties allowing you to specify data fields from which items settings are to be obtained. Examples of settings that can be fetched from a data table are item tooltips, navigation URLs, image URLs, etc.
New Media Formats for Object Container - The list of supported video and audio types has been extended with QuickTime Video and QuickTime VR (virtual reality).
ASPxCallbackPanel Improvement - The panel's content can now remain visible during callback processing. Note that this behavior is optional – a loading panel is displayed by default.
eXpressApp Framework
Scheduler Module - Prior to this release, XAF provided a scheduling module only for WinForms. With v2008 vol 2, an ASP.NET scheduling module is now available.
PivotChart Module - XAF v2008 vol 2 introduces new PivotChart modules - for WinForms and ASP.NET. These modules allow end-users to analyze data by using a combination of DevExpress XtraCharts, XtraPivotGrid and ASPxPivotGrid controls. To take advantage of this UI in your applications, simply add a built-in Analysis business class and PivotChart module to your application. Analysis Detail View contains a special Property Editor that allows end-users to slice and dice data using a pivot grid, and then display results in a 2D or 3D chart. PivotChart modules support all features of the XtraPivotGrid and ASPxPivotGrid controls - filtering, top value display, hierarchical value arrangement on the axes, grand and group totals, etc. WinForm application users can also make use of the XtraCharts Wizard to modify their charts.
Reports Module - Previously, if you wanted to generate a report based on currently selected records or the currently opened Detail View, you would have to write custom code. In v2008 vol 2 this has become a part of XAF’s built-in functionality. Now, any report can be marked as valid for in-place reporting. You can then add a new "Show in Report" action to the required List and Detail Views. This action will display a list of marked reports and thus allow end-users to generate an instant report based on currently selected data. Previously, only exporting Actions were available in ASP.NET reports created with XAF. These Actions allowed you to save a report to an MHT, PDF, RTF or XML file. With the release of v2008 vol 2, end-users will get a new UI provided by the XtraReports Suite – including a toolbar that provides rich data navigation and report management capabilities.
RibbonUI Module - To generate a Microsoft Office 2007 style UI, simply add this new module to your application. If needed, you can customize the default Ribbon Templates using the Application Model.
New Features of the GridListEditor and ASPxGridListEditor
New Item Row - Previously, the only way to create a new object was to invoke a Detail View. Now, the GridListEditor supports the XtraGrid's New Item Row feature, thus allowing end-users to enter new data directly into grid cells.
Inline List View Editing - Previously, XAF allowed inline editing of List Views in WinForms applications only. We've eliminated this limitation in v2008 vol 2, so that web application end-users can now make use of ASPxGridView's inline editing capabilities.
Medium Trust Support -eXpressApp Framework now supports the Medium Trust security level, making it easier to deploy to different web hosting environments.
What’s new in DXperience 2008 vol 1?
Rich Text Editor for ASP.NET 2.0 - This new control allows you to incorporate rich text editing capabilities into your web sites. This initial release implements all the basic text formatting features, fully supports embedded images and provides two text editing modes - WYSIWYG and HTML code editing. The user interface in this editor is built entirely with controls from the ASPxperience Suite, including a brand new ASPxUpload control used to embed images.
TreeView-Grid Hybrid for ASP.NET 2.0 - This new control combines the capabilities of tree and grid components. allowing you to build trees with arbitrary data layout within its nodes. Performance and lightweight rendering are the main features of all the web controls. As such, the ASPxTreeList Suite implements numerous performance optimization features - from callback-based data paging to loading child nodes on demand and even partial control update via AJAX callbacks. This initial release doesn't support data editing and can be used for data display and/or web site navigation, which will be enough for the majority of usage scenarios.
Spelling Checker for ASP.NET- The ASPxSpellChecker provides you a straightforward way in which to add Microsoft Office style spell checking capabilities into your next ASP.NET application. With this control, you need a single line of code to check text within an individual text editor or within all controls in a specified container. When an error is encountered, you can review it and take necessary actions using a Microsoft Outlook style dialog that is built with controls from the ASPxperience Suite and thus will seamlessly integrate into your application's UI.

What's New in DXperience v2007 vol 3?
Scheduling/Planning/Calendar Suite for ASP.NET 2.0 - The ASP.NET product line has been extended with the ASPxScheduler Suite. Built and optimized for ASP.NET 2, the ASPxScheduler Suite includes all the tools you will need to create stunning web applications that mimic the capabilities found in Microsoft Outlook.
The ASPxScheduler Suite offers you five different view types, multiple resources displays, event recurrence support, advanced date navigator, built-in editor dialogs and popup menus. All these features have been built on top of the core ASP.NET library, thus providing lightweight rendering and high responsiveness via AJAX callbacks.
The ASPxScheduler Suite is comprised of multiple components including the Scheduler and Date Navigator along with smaller data editors used in built-in dialogs.
XtraGrid Suite - Layout View
With the release of version v2007 vol 3, the WinForms Grid Control introduces a new data representation format - Layout View. Like the Card View, this View type displays data records as cards. The difference is that it allows to present data more compactly. You can freely customize field layout and thus use form space more effectively. The Card View, on the other hand, simply arranges fields one under another. The following field arrangement features are supported by the Layout View:
Fields can be freely arranged into any number of rows and columns
Fields can span over several adjacent fields
Fields can be combined into groups, as if they were added to a group box
Empty regions can be added to cards, if required
The Layout View can display a single card centered within the view, as well as multiple cards arranged into columns and rows.
The Layout View's features are powered by the comprehensive layout management library used in the XtraLayoutControl Suite.
XtraCharts Suite - New 3D Bar Views
Previously, if a 3D Bar View had several series, each series was shown as a separate row of bars. This could complicate data analysis, since some bars could be hidden behind bars from a closer series. Even with end-user chart rotation support, this limitation could pose a challenge to some. With vol 3 you can avoid these hassles by using the new 3D Bar View that arranges all bars in one row. Series continue to be easily distinguished from one another by bar color. Also added Stacked and Full-Stacked 3D Bar Views. With them, you can enhance you UI by converting existing 2D charts to their 3D equivalent.
3D Stacked Bar View 3D Full-Stacked Bar View
2D and 3D Doughnut Views
2D Doughnut View 3D Doughnut View
Major Improvements in ASP.NET Charting - This version radically improves the usability of the ASP.NET chart control. DevEpxress have re-designed the WebChartControl so that it's now based on the ASPxperience Suite, and thus provides you with the following benefits:
AJAX Callback Support - Web chart control now exposes a comprehensive set of client-side events. When handling these events, you can indicate that server-side processing is required. If you do so, a callback is initiated thus allowing you to customize the chart on the server. The server will finalize the callback cycle by sending the newly generated chart image to the client.
Server-side and Client-side Hit Testing - These features allow you to create a more interactive web chart UI. They help you determine which chart element is clicked or hot-tracked. This means that you can display tooltips for chart points, create drill-down charts and even edit charts on the client side.
Empty Point Representation - Included new capabilities in the XtraCharts Suite for situations wherein a data source contains an argument that doesn't have a corresponding series value. This often takes place when you have several characteristics to measure and measurements are carried out against slightly different argument sets. Though arguments differ slightly, you can still store these measurements within a single data table and compare them within a single chart.
These Empty Points - arguments without values are displayed as gaps in Line and Area Views or as missing bars and points. Previously, Empty Points were represented as zeros or were simply ignored (depending on value type).
Convert On-Screen Coordinates to Diagram Values - With vol 3, the chart control can serve not only as a data visualization tool but can also enable data editing directly within a chart. That's right, you can allow end-users to change database values by simply dragging chart elements - points or bar edges. This is possible thanks to the ability to convert on-screen coordinates to internal diagram values.
Improved Legend Customization - Legend should no longer contain the same text as point labels. A new LegendPointOptions property controls how a series point is represented in a legend. This feature is especially useful for Pie and Doughnut series.
If you prefer, you can specify any custom text via the CustomDrawSeries and CustomDrawSeriesPoint events.
ASPxGridView and Editors Suite
Popup Edit Forms - implemented a new record editing mode - Popup Edit Form. This mode combines the benefits of previously available in-line editing and Edit Forms:
The grid doesn't change its size when edit mode is enabled
You have complete control over editor arrangement and can provide elegant display for images or lengthy text fields
Data Grouping and Sorting Enhancements - Group summaries can now be displayed within group footers under the corresponding column, thus providing more intuitive and efficient data presentation.
Grouping Intervals - Previously, when you grouped data against a column, a group per each unique column value was created. In vol 3, grouping has become more flexible, since now groups can be based on value intervals. For instance, date-time columns can be grouped by date, month, year or in Microsoft Outlook style. Text values can be grouped alphabetically, based on their first characters.
Custom Sorting - The ASPxGridView now allows you to implement custom sorting logic. You can use this new capability to provide custom grouping intervals, for instance.
Sort Data by Display Text - This feature is extremely useful when you use lookup editors in your grid. Instead of sorting by underlying IDs, the grid will now sort data based on its textual representation, thus greatly improving user experience.
Export Improvements
Adjustable Page Orientation - You can now choose between LANDSCAPE and PORTRAIT orientation when exporting data to PDF
Report margins can now be customized
Export to CSV format is now available
With a new event - RenderBrick, you can change how the grid content is rendered when it's being exported
Easily Transmit Any Data onto the Client - A new server event - CustomJSProperties - enables you to declare custom client properties for the client grid control. You can specify these properties' values on the server side and then access them on the client, as you would do with built-in properties. This allows you to easily transmit any data to the client by writing very little code.
A New Button Control - The ASPxButton control extends the standard button's functionality. It provides an enhanced client API, supports the appearance customization mechanism and allows the editors to be automatically validated on the client side.
A New Spin Editor Control - The new ASPxSpinEdit control enables end-users to edit numeric values with ease by clicking increment and decrement buttons. This control's features include the following:
Spin buttons have a fully customizable appearance and position
End-users can change edit values using the keyboard (the ARROW UP and ARROW DOWN keys) and mouse wheel
User input can be limited by specifying the minimum and maximum allowed values
The ASPxSpinEdit control can work in floating point or integer mode. In integer mode, floating-point input is disabled and values are automatically rounded after they have been modified. In floating-point mode, culture-specific separators are supported.
XtraBars Suite
Standalone Toolbars - You can now place toolbars at any location within a form.
Ribbon Enhancements - Similar to toolbars and menus, the RibbonControl supports MDI merging. This allows you to save working space by automatically moving bar commands from a child form to the main form when maximizing a child. You don't have to write any code to enable this feature. Simply specify when merging should take place - when the main form is activated or when it's maximized.
Customizable Height for Embedded Editors - The RibbonControl was previously optimized to display single-line editors, which made it hard to display memo data, images and radio buttons. With this release, you can explicitly set an editor's height. Thus you can make an editor use the entire vertical space provided by the RibbonControl.
Displaying Bar Commands to the Right of Tab Headers - Your application's UI can now mimic Microsoft Office more effectively by embedding controls into the tab header area. There are no restrictions on embedded control type - it can be a help button, a search string editor or anything else your business requirements dictate.
Transparent Background for In-place Editors - You can now freely use check boxes, track bars and radio groups within ribbons. A white background will not be displayed when you move focus to these editors.
New Navigation Capabilities - Implemented two new navigation features so that you can provide the same end-user experience as that found in Microsoft Office. You can now change the active tab by scrolling the mouse wheel when the Ribbon is hot-tracked. If tab headers or commands don't fit into the parent window horizontally, scroll buttons are displayed so that all commands remain accessible.
XtraReports Suite
ASP.NET Reporting - Major Improvements - significantly improved the ASP.NET capabilities of the XtraReports Suite. The main controls - ReportViewer and ReportToolbar - have been completely re-written to use the the ASPxperience Suite.
Complete AJAX Callback Support - The ReportViewer control now uses callbacks for all operations. For instance, page navigation is accomplished via callbacks, automatically.
Medium Trust Support - Since many web hosts do not grant Full Trust permission to their clients, now allow you to create reports that can be viewed and work at a Medium Trust permission level.
Report Caching for Faster Navigation and Export Operations
Document Map Support (Bookmarks)
The Ability to Build Custom Report Toolbars
Cross-Band Controls (Line and Box) - Previously, to draw a continuous line across several bands, you had to place a Line control into each band and then carefully align lines to one another. With the new cross-band Line and Box controls, these tasks become a matter of placing a single control onto your report.
Built-in Data Filtering - In previous versions, if you wanted to apply filtering to a report, you needed to manually filter the underlying data source. Now provide a more straightforward solution - you can specify any filter condition when designing a report, by either assigning it to the FilterString property or using the Filter Editor dialog. The specified condition will be automatically applied to the underlying data source when the report is generated.
Anchor Control Edges to Band Edges - This feature allows you to better control complex report layout. For instance, this features can be used when multiple controls are displayed side by side and their height depends on their content. To make certain these controls have the same height, anchor them to the band's top and bottom edges. The control's height will then be adjusted with respect to the band's actual height.
XtraEditors Library
New Components - The XtraEditors Library introduces two new button controls and a new component that makes it easier to validate user input.
DropDownButton - This button can be associated with a popup control or a context menu. End-users can invoke the associated control by clicking the button's drop-down arrow
CheckButton
DXValidationProvider - Previously, in order to validate data within standalone editors, you had to manually subscribe to Validation events and invoke custom validation code. The DXValidationProvider component looks at the validation task from a different standpoint. With this component, you don't need to write code. Simply create validation rules and associate them with editors.
Embeddable MarqueeProgressBar Сontrol - In previous versions, MarqueeProgressBar could only be used as a standalone control. With this release, it can be integrated into toolbars, ribbons, grids and all other Developer Express container controls.
Animation - The PictureEdit and ImageEdit controls now support animated GIF files. GIF animation support is also available within container controls (such as the XtraGrid, XtraTreeList, XtraBars, etc). As an example, the following image shows how you can enhance a grid control's functionality using animated GIF files:
Displaying RTF Data in Container Controls - Container controls (such as the XtraGrid, XtraTreeList, XtraVerticalGrid, etc) can now display RTF data within their cells (read-only mode). This allows you to show formatted text with images without using any custom draw features.
XtraPivotGrid Suite
Select Multiple Cell Blocks - When this mode is enabled, end-users can select multiple cell blocks by clicking cells while pressing the CTRL button.
Report Interactivity Improvements - End-users can now specify the functions to be used to calculate cell values - which reduces the amount of work on your end, since you need only to populate the control with the desired fields. End-users will be able to create any report with just a few mouse clicks.
Advanced Filter Editor Dialog - A new filter editor - Prefilter - allows your end-users to build complex filter criteria with an unlimited number of filter conditions combined by any logical operators. The resulting filter condition is combined with filter conditions defined by individual fields. Previously, end-users could only apply a filter by selecting/deselecting field values using check boxes and as such, it was quite hard to filter out numeric or date-time values that fell within a specified range. With the new filter dialog, however, these tasks are now simple and straightforward - just a matter of specifying a couple of filter conditions.
XtraSpellChecker - RichTextBox Is Now Supported. In addition to all previously supported controls (standard TextBox, Developer Express TextEdit and MemoEdit), you can now use the spell checker with the standard RichTextBox.
Improved Performance against Large Text Fields - The XtraSpellChecker's performance no longer varies based upon the size of text within the target control. The spell checker only considers the currently visible text, which significantly improves performance against large text fields.
XtraScheduler Suite
Introduced a new assembly within the XtraScheduler Suite. This assembly enhances scheduler's built-in dialogs using advanced Developer Express components - toolbars, menus, Ribbons, layout control and spell checker. Thus, if you own the XtraBars Suite, XtraLayoutControl and XtraSpellChecker, you can easily enable the following product integration features.
Appointment Form with Menus and Toolbars
Appointment Form with a Ribbon
Check Spelling via the XtraSpellChecker
Appointment Form Customization using the XtraLayoutControl's Capabilities
XtraLayoutControl
Customize Layout by Dragging Tree View Nodes - Runtime layout customization can be a tough task because it's difficult to initiate drag and drop operations against elements with small or non-existant borders. To simplify layout customization, we've implemented a new feature - drag and drop within the layout tree view. Open the Customization Form and switch to the Layout Tree View tab. Grip an item and drag it. You can drop it at any of the target item's four edges. This will determine where the item will be displayed on the form relative to the target item.
Common Enhancements across the ASP.NET Component Suites
SEO-Friendly Paging - Search-Engine Optimized (SEO) paging is available in the ASPxDataView control, and thus part of all Developer Express web controls that include embedded pagers.
Images for Selected and Hot-tracked Elements - Menu items, tab headers and other elements can now include multiple assigned images - one for each state.
Enhanced Client-Side API - The controls now expose client-side functions that allow you to customize the following properties of control elements: text, visibility, target URL, image, enabled state.
ASPxperience Suite
Modal Mode in ASPxPopupControl - In this mode, the entire page behind the popup control is grayed and all controls within it are disabled. Once the the popup control is closed, the web page becomes active again.
ASPxMenu Enhancements - The checked state is now available for menu items. This allows you to emulate toolbar functionality using the ASPxMenu control.
ASPxPivotGrid Suite - You can now specify style settings for individual cells. Row field values can now be aligned to the top edge of their cell. You can now save and then restore the pivot grid's layout. Vertical scrolling is now available in the Field List window. Built-in context menus can now be turned off using a single option. You can now respond to click and double-click events within a cell. A new server event notifies you when a field's location or visibility has been changed.
XtraNavBar
Re-designed Navigation Pane - The Navigation Pane paint style has been improved to completely match the UI found in Microsoft Outlook 2007. The NavBarControl can be collapsed and then expanded by clicking an arrow within the control's caption. Even in its collapsed state, the Navigation Pane still allows end-users to access the active group's content. To do this, they simply need to click the group's caption:
XtraPrinting Library
Saving and Loading Generated Documents - With v2007 vol 3, the XtraPrinting Library allows you to save a report document from the Print Preview to its internal file format (*.prnx), and then load it within another Print Preview form.
RTF Export Improvements - The RTF export module was totally re-written and now produces genuine WYSIWYG results. The document is now correctly broken down into pages. Previously, the document was exported to RTF as a single page and page headers and footers were ignored. Cells are now represented by frames with absolute positioning instead of nested tables. This makes it easier to edit documents and significantly improves text editor performance against exported files. Watermarks are now supported (both text and images).
Image Export Improvements - Export to graphic files is now more flexible. You can control the following attributes:
Whether a document should be exported into a single image or into multiple images, page by page
Whether to separate pages from one another with a border when exporting a document into a single image file
The resolution to be used for generated images
XtraTreeList Suite
Data Filtering Improvements - When specifying filter conditions via code, the following eight new filter conditions are now available: BeginsWith, EndsWith, Contains, NotContains, Like, NotLike, IsBlank and IsNotBlank. Data filtering performance has been significantly improved.
