New in Version 2.1:
The converters used by InaFileConverter support more than 15 different file formats. Extract formatted data from WordPerfect, Microsoft Word (including Word for Windows, Word for DOS and Word for the MAC), AmiPro, Excel, Lotus 123, WordStar, RFT-DCA and HTML and save it as an RTF file. And, File Converter allows developers to turn Rich Text Files into files formatted for some versions of Word, AmiPro, HTML, Works, RFT-DCA, WordPerfect and WordStar.
This ActiveX controls simple interface makes file conversion a snap. Just specify a source file, a destination file and the type of conversion needed and the File Converter Control will do the rest. Custom events update the programmer during the conversion process and let him know when a conversion is done. If anything goes wrong, File Converter raises exceptions so developers can handle the problem with standard error trapping.
The InaFileConverter Control Set works by serving as an ActiveX front end to a series of Microsoft converters available on most Windows installations. The converters, installed by the Windows WordPad applet and by Microsoft Office, make it possible to extract Rich Text from a variety of formats and save Rich Text in some proprietary formats.
Inabyte provides the File Converter control. Developers are responsible for obtaining the converters according to Microsofts licensing. Some are available from Microsofts website. Others are installed with 32-bit Office installations. Still others are installed with WordPad.
Formats supported by the File Converter include:
File Converter is simple to use. The control will automatically determine what converters are available on the local machine when it loads into memory. Then, the programmer can search for a converter from a property array to determine what kinds of conversions are possible. Once a suitable converter is found, the developer specifies a source file, an output destination and calls the appropriate conversion method.
File Converter is an MFC ActiveX control. Its runtime dependencies consist of MFC42.DLL and MSVCRT.DLL. It is supported in 32-bit versions of Visual Basic.
