LEAD's most recent addition to its barcode support is the 2D DataMatrix barcode. A 2D DataMatrix symbol is square and can range from 0.001 inch per side up to 14 inches per side. As an example of density, 500 numeric only characters can be encoded in a 1-inch square using a 24-pin dot matrix printer.
DataMatrix is currently being used to encode product and serial number information on electrical rating plates, to mark surgical instruments in Japan, and to identify lenses, circuit boards and other items during manufacturing.
LEADTOOLS DataMatrix Barcode Modules support 32 different DataMatrix sub types and include functionality such as Error Correction Code (ECC) to fix damaged barcode symbols, read and write color and grayscale symbols, store up to 2,218 ASCII characters in one barcode symbol or chain symbols to encode up to 33,225 characters and read barcodes independent of skew, orientation and flipping.
