What’s new in oXygen XML 14.2?

• Full schema editing capabilities to generate XML instances and schema documentation in accordance with XML Schema 1.1 W3C standards.
• Support for highlights and a Review manager panel. Highlights help you focus on the content you need to review and the Review manager panel presents all the changes, comments and highlights from a document so you can quickly inspect and manage them.
• Improvements were made for quickly finding resources in the project by searching in their content or file paths.
• Documents from Microsoft SharePoint servers can now be accessed using the Data Source Explorer view, where you can edit, check-in, or check-out resources directly.

What's new in <oXygen/> XML Editor 14?

• Master Files - Simplify the configuration and development of XML projects. Master Files are the roots of import/include tree of modules. They are defined at project level and are automatically used to determine the context for: validation, editing (content-completion and outliner), refactoring and component search operations. This support is available for XSD, XSL and RNG modules.
• XSLT Unit Test - Easily create a test for an XSLT stylesheet using the XSLT Unit Test contextual action in the Project View. This action automatically generates an XSpec stub for the templates and functions from the stylesheet that you want to test
• XPath/XQuery Builder - A sandbox tool designed to help you in building, reusing and testing XPath and XQuery code snippets. Using the content completion assistant and syntax highlight coloring, you can quickly build queries and you can reuse them either from the history stack or from the favorites list.
• CTRL/CMD + Click Navigation - By holding down CTRL (CMD on Mac) in the Text editing mode some components become links that you can follow to get to the definition of those components.
• In-Place Rename - Rename a component and all its occurrences in the current file without showing any dialogs. All the component occurrences are highlighted and changed as you type.
• XSLT 3.0 - Provide content completion for XSLT 3.0 stylesheets, support for transformations and XSLT validation, updated Outline view and search and refactoring actions that handle new additions in the XSLT 3.0 standard.
• XQuery 3.0 - Edit and execute XQuery 3.0 expressions (including schema aware ones).
• XPath 3.0 - Support updated to cover the new additions in XPath 3.0
• Display Review Comments as Callouts - When you annotate your XML documents, comments are displayed in the Author view as side callouts (balloons) showing additional information like the author and comment time.
• Display Tracked Changes as Callouts - Along with review comments, changes can be presented as callout boxes (balloons) next to the editing area, thus making it easy to collaborate on document editing and review. You can control what type of changes are displayed as well as the additional information: changed content, date, time and author.
• Feedback-enabled WebHelp - Transform DITA and DocBook documents into Feedback-Enabled WebHelp systems.
• Complete DITA 1.2 Implementation in Relax NG - Support for creating, authoring and publishing DITA documents based on Relax NG schemas.
• Discontinuous selection - You can select multiple text ranges (discontinuous selection) or multiple elements in the Author page and cut/copy/paste them.
• CSS 3 Substring Matching Attribute Selectors - The Author editing mode supports the CSS 3 "starts-with", "ends-with" and "contains" attribute selectors.
• Plugin and Framework Repositories - As a developer you will be able to distribute your plugins and frameworks to other users by publishing them as add-ons on your website.
• StratML Framework - Support for Strategy Markup Language Part 1 and Part 2 is by default in <oXygen/>.
• Localized Frameworks - A framework provides specific support for an XML vocabulary - this is what <oXygen/> uses to provide a default support for DITA, DocBook, TEI, etc. Starting with version 14 the frameworks support internationalization and the main default <oXygen/> frameworks have been localized in English, German, French, Dutch, Italian and Japanese.
• Specific Element Icons - Many of the default <oXygen/> frameworks (DITA, Docbook, TEI, XHTML, XSL and XML Schema) were updated to use the API that allow providing custom icons for elements to provide specific icons, for example to easily distinguish a title, a paragraph, a list, etc. These icons appear in the Outline view and in the content completion list when an element is proposed to be inserted in the document.
• Unified Presentation of Transformation Scenarios - All transformation scenarios are presented regardless of their storage: the project file, user preferences, or frameworks. You can easily import and export scenarios, and change their storage location.
• Associate Multiple Transformation Scenarios - You can publish to multiple output formats with just one click. For instance, if you associate DITA to PDF and DITA to Webhelp scenarios to a DITA map then the "Apply Transformation" action will perform both transformations.

• Syntax highlight for mixed content types - Redesigned syntax coloring engine improves performance and accuracy. Different content types mixed in the same file are now highlighted according to color schemes defined for each content type.
• Remote file find/replace - Find / Replace in files support added for remote files, (WebDAV or FTP), that are linked from a project or DITA map.
• Spell check remote files - Spell check support added for remote files, (WebDAV or FTP), that are linked from a project or DITA map.
• Improved open/find resource filter - Look for resources using path fragments.
• Improved BIDI rendering - A number of BIDI-text-related issues have been fixed, leading to improved rendering of bidirectional content documents.
• DITA map metrics added - DITA Maps Metrics Report enriched with the following additional information, conditional processing attributes, number of elements, attributes, words and characters used in the DITA Map structure, information types like number of containing maps, bookmaps, or topics.
• Improved the usage of profiling/conditional text - The usage of Edit Profiling Attributes action is no longer restricted to profiling only entire elements. Now it also works on selections, that can contain  multiple elements.
• Prefixed oxygen CSS properties extensions - Oxygen-specific CSS properties are now prefixed with the -oxy- marker. The old, unprefixed form is now deprecated.
• Browse reference manual action - A new contextual action is available for DITA, DocBook, TEI and XHTML documents which opens the documentation of the selected XML element in a Web browser.

• WYSIWYG XML Editor (Visual XML editor) - The Author mode of the <oXygen/> XML Editor demonstrates a new productive way of editing XML documents, similar to a word processor.
• Intelligent XML Editing - The context sensitive content assistant is changing the way you edit documents, helping you create valid content all the time.
• Extensible XML Editor - Starting with version 9 OxygenXML adds a new concept called Document Type that solves the problem of providing ready to use support for a framework or an XML language. The Document Type concept is used to provide the built in support <oXygen/> has for a number of XML frameworks (DITA, DocBook, TEI) but, more importantly, it can be employed to provide support for a user defined framework that needs to be shared with other users.
• XML Grid Editor - The <oXygen/>'s grid editor allows you to edit repetitive XML content in a special layout similar to a spreadsheet application, without the need to interact with markup.
• XML Outliner - <oXygen/> XML Editor comes along with an outliner which is automatically synchronized with the document changes.
• XInclude Support - <oXygen/> XML Editor supports XInclude which is a standard for building up XML documents from smaller pieces, being a replacement for the external entities.
• XML Validation and Well-Formedness Check - The XML validation can be done by checking the documents against a schema. <oXygen/> XML Editor supports: XML Schema, DTD, Schematron and Relax NG schemas.
• XML Formating and Indentation - A useful utility is the XML document formatter.
• Unicode and Internationalization -<oXygen/> XML Editor supports a large number of text encodings. Unicode is fully supported.
• XML Diff and Merge Tool - A complete diff and merge solution is available in <oXygen/> XML Editor. It offers both directory and file comparison, six different diff algorithms and multiple levels of comparison.
• XPath support - XPath is a language for addressing specific parts of an XML document. XPath, like the Document Object Model (DOM), models an XML document as a tree of nodes. An XPath expression is a mechanism for navigating through and selecting nodes from the XML document. You can executes XPath queries on opened documents. Both XPath versions 1.0 and 2.0 are supported.
• XML Digital Signature and XML Canonicalization - The digital signature is a requirement when exchanging information in an untrusted network. Since XML is used for content storage it is important to be able to sign the XML files or messages.
