Altova DiffDog includes an easy-to-use synchronization utility quickly compares and merges text or source code files and directories via its intuitive visual interface. Altova DiffDog also provides advanced XML aware differencing and editing capabilities based on those popularized in Altova XMLSpy.

Altova DiffDog indicates differences visually, allowing you to quickly identify changes. For optimal efficiency, you can edit documents directly within the differencing interface, merge changes, and instantly re-compare the edited files.

Intelligent XML Differencing

In addition to text file and directory comparisons, DiffDog supports intelligent XML differencing features and options, such as DTD/schema-based validation, well-formedness checking, intelligent entry helpers, and much more to help you compare and merge XML files in an intelligent manner. The DiffDog XML differencing capabilities are completely customizable. For example, you can specify if entities should be resolved, if namespace prefixes, whitespace, CDATA, processing instructions, comments, or the ordering of attributes/child elements should be ignored or not, how to visualize differences, and so on. DiffDog also allows you to compare XML files in advanced text view or the indispensable grid view popularized by Altova XMLSpy.

What’s new in DiffDog 2012 Release 2?

Save and reload parameters for file and folder comparisons - Previous releases of DiffDog include a feature to save and re-open settings files for database schema and content comparisons. These database comparison files are also compatible with and shared by DatabaseSpy. Now version 2012r2 enhances this functionality by allowing users to save and reload comparison settings for file and folder comparisons. For local comparisons, users can save the file or folder name and path for each window. For comparisons across HTTP and FTP Servers, DiffDog v2012r2 records the URL.

Hide or display empty folders - DiffDog 2012r2 adds a new preference setting to hide or display empty folders during directory comparisons. This functionality applies to folders where all files are hidden due to file extension filtering as well as folders that are truly empty.

Support for logical files in IBM iSeries databases - Support for logical files in IBM iSeries lets DiffDog users perform database structure comparisons, and generate change scripts for IBM iSeries databases.

Simplified Directory Synchronization

The synchronize feature of directory comparisons in DiffDog 2011 Release 3 is enhanced with a new set of buttons at the top of the Synchronize directories dialog to facilitate using DiffDog to make exact copies of folders, directories, and subdirectories for backup or other duplication requirements. The requirements for an exact copy are a bit different than a conventional directory diff/merge comparison, since the source directory could contain an older version of a file than the target, or the source could be missing files that exist in - and should be deleted from - the target. Users can now quickly and easily synchronize large file systems and complex subdirectory structures locally or across networks with DiffDog 2011 Release 3.

Enhanced Child Order Recognition

XML-aware file comparison has been a useful feature since the initial release of DiffDog in 2005, enabling XML developers and power users to quickly identify files that are equivalent XML documents even if they are not identical in a text-based comparison. One important DiffDog XML comparison option has permitted users to instruct DiffDog to ignore the order of the names of child elements when comparing XML documents. Child element order recognition is enhanced in DiffDog 2010r3 to process child element attributes as well as child element names. This expands DiffDog comparison intelligence to recognize equivalence between files when the only difference may be a subtle ordering of child information by attribute type.

What's new in Altova DiffDog 2010 Release 2?

Altova Software Version 2010 Release 2 (v2010r2) provides helpful new features across the product line, and most importantly, significant speed and performance enhancements for working with large XML files. Users will experience optimized loading times – up to 10 times faster – for files larger than 10 MB in Text View, and XML Schema-based validation is up to three times quicker in Text View. Users working in Grid View can experience significant speed increases, completing certain common operations (e.g., copy / paste, etc.) up to 100 times faster.

In addition, with v2010r2, native 64-bit versions of all MissionKit tools are now available. This allows Altova products to capitalize on the benefits of 64-bit operating systems such as Windows Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit, and, among other advantages, reduces limitations associated with working with very large files sized anywhere from 100 MB up to gigabyte-sized documents.
