What is an Enterprise JavaBean? An Enterprise JavaBean or Enterprise Java Bean, often abbreviated to EJB, is a reusable software component that works with Java and allows you to add functionality to your Java application. Unlike JavaBeans, EJBs are non-visual and run on the server, these server-side Java components are part of the Java Platform Enterprise Edition (Java EE) standard and run inside a J2EE container to enable you to build complex, distributed Java applications using a modular architecture and component based design or techniques.
