Microsoft ended mainstream availability following the discontinuation of the Expression product line in 2012. Some components were integrated into Visual Studio and others were made available as free downloads. Microsoft Expression Studio 4 Ultimate was an integrated suite of professional design and web development tools for creating rich desktop, web, and media applications on the Microsoft platform. The suite included Expression Blend for Silverlight and Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) interface design, Expression Web for standards-based website development, Expression Design for vector and raster graphics, and Expression Encoder for digital video encoding and streaming. Expression Studio 4 Ultimate also included SketchFlow prototyping capabilities and integration with Microsoft Visual Studio for collaborative designer and developer workflows.

Microsoft SQL Server is a relational database management system (RDBMS) designed for storing, managing, and analysing structured data in enterprise and business applications. It provides support for Transact-SQL (T-SQL), high availability, backup and recovery, security features, replication, and performance optimisation. Microsoft SQL Server also includes capabilities for business intelligence (BI), reporting, data integration, and analytics through components such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS). It integrates with Microsoft development tools and supports deployment across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.

"Visual Studio 2015 is the last release of Visual Studio that includes the LightSwitch tooling and we recommend users not begin new application development with LightSwitch. That said, we will continue to support users with existing LightSwitch applications, including critical bug fixes and security issues as per the Microsoft Support Lifecycle. For reference, the mainstream support phase for Visual Studio 2015 is active until 10/13/2020."

Microsoft Visual Studio Premium supported development for desktop, web, cloud, and mobile applications using multiple programming languages within the Microsoft ecosystem. It also integrated with Team Foundation Server (TFS) to support source control, work item tracking, build automation, and collaborative application lifecycle management (ALM).

Microsoft Visual Studio Ultimate was the highest-tier edition of Microsoft's integrated development environment (IDE), providing a comprehensive set of tools for software developers, architects, testers, and database administrators. It included advanced debugging, IntelliTrace, code analysis, architecture validation, performance profiling, load testing, exploratory testing, and comprehensive application lifecycle management (ALM) capabilities. Microsoft Visual Studio Ultimate integrated with Team Foundation Server (TFS) to support source control, build automation, work item tracking, test management, and continuous integration. It supported development of desktop, web, cloud, mobile, and service-based applications across multiple programming languages within the Microsoft ecosystem.
