Display remote terminal screens and automate text-based interactions with emulation components for .NET Framework.

Embed Terminal Sessions in .NET Apps

Emulation lets a .NET Framework application interpret control sequences from a remote system and reproduce its text display, including cursor positions, colours and character formatting. Developers can embed an interactive terminal for users or process terminal output programmatically to automate commands and extract information. This is useful when integrating host applications that expose a terminal interface, allowing existing workflows to be accessed from within a .NET Framework application.

Several .NET Framework communication and messaging products support emulation, including:

  • Rebex SSH Shell provides a Windows Forms terminal control for SSH and Telnet sessions, plus a virtual terminal for automated interactions without a visible display.
  • PowerTCP Emulation for .NET by Dart Communications supports VT52, VT100, VT220 and VT320 terminals, with screen scraping to extract text from terminal displays.
  • SocketTools .NET Edition by Catalyst Development Corp. includes an ANSI, VT100 and VT220 terminal control with APIs for managing display cells, cursor positions and text attributes.
