What is MySQL? MySQL is an relational database management system (RDBMS) that can store your data on a server or multiple servers in a multi-user environment. As MySQL is able to manage data in a multi-user and multi-server environment, it can therefore handle large numbers of users and large volumes of data. MySQL is available under a free software license (GNU Public License) and as such MySQL is an open source database. MySQL is owned by SUN Microsystems, now part of the Oracle Corporation.
