PowerSNMP for ActiveX provides a set of COM components to facilitate development of SNMP-based network management applications. It supports SNMP versions 1, 2c, and 3, delivering secure, concurrent communications with network devices. The product offers Manager and Agent ActiveX controls for querying devices, receiving traps, and handling SNMP requests. It supports loading custom and standard MIBs, enabling detailed network monitoring and control in a variety of environments.

Manage Network Devices

The Manager ActiveX control enables querying SNMP agents, receiving traps, and sending inform messages. It supports discovery of agents, comprehensive MIB queries, and retrieval of full SNMP tables using ToTable() methods. Communication can be parallel or serial across multiple threads.

Respond to SNMP Requests and Send Traps

The Agent ActiveX control processes Get, GetNext, GetBulk, and Set requests from managers. It can send trap messages and auto-generate response messages based on the local MIB. It updates the agent MIB automatically and supports asynchronous request processing.

Standard and Custom MIB Support

PowerSNMP loads and parses MIB files, allowing OID mapping through MibNode classes. It includes intrinsic support for standard SNMPv2 SMI MIBs, facilitating integration with custom and standard network device information schemas.

SNMP Table Retrieval and Bulk Operations

Retrieve complete SNMP tables and large datasets efficiently using built-in methods such as GetBulk and ToTable(). These capabilities simplify working with tabular network data and allow applications to collect detailed device information from SNMP agents with minimal request overhead.

Manager Control Features

The Manager control handles asynchronous reception of Inform and Trap events, sends requests using various threading models, and automatically discovers SNMPv3 authoritative engine details. It supports IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and caches engine parameters for efficiency.

Agent Control Capabilities

Agent control supports binding on any IP address and handles asynchronous request processing. It encodes and sends trap/notification messages independently and responds with SNMPv3 report messages. It supports multi-threaded apartment and single-threaded apartment models for diverse application types.

Security Integration

Security class enables SNMPv3 authentication and privacy with MD5, SHA, DES, Triple DES, and AES encryption algorithms. It automates discovery and caching of authoritative engine parameters required for secure SNMP communications.

Interoperability and Standards Compliance

Compatible with SNMP standards and interoperable with products from vendors like CISCO and NET-SNMP. Supports both IPv4 and IPv6 addressing, complies with multiple SNMP RFCs for versions 1, 2c, and 3, and aligns with FIPS 140-2 security requirements.

Comprehensive SNMP Messaging Support
