CAS/Tester is a development and deployment utility that scans applications to detect required components such as DLLs, COM objects, ActiveX controls, and type libraries. It verifies that these dependencies and required versions are present on target systems and can automatically download, install, or update missing components when necessary.

Dependency Scanning

Utilizes multiple techniques including DLL import table analysis, Visual Basic project inspection, installation script parsing, running process memory checks, and DEP file recursive analysis to build accurate lists of all modules an application relies on.

Component Verification

Ensures correct component versions by checking file version resources, dates, sizes, type library versions, and registration status. Customized verification via VB code can be implemented for specific scenarios.

Automatic Updates and Reporting

Facilitates updating components through HTTP or FTP with included protocols, generates user-friendly reports explaining conflicts, logs detailed results to external files, and supports emailing problem reports to help desks. Custom actions can be enabled via Visual Basic integration.

Dependency List Management

Allows embedding dependency lists into executables or creating external script files for distribution. Supports web or FTP-based access of updated dependency scripts, enabling end-users to report issues and receive automatic updates.

Registration Detection and Automation

Detects if updated files require registration such as new COM components or updated interfaces. Registration can be automated using methods like running regsvr32 silently or leveraging integration with SpyWorks for direct API calls within applications.

Integration with Visual Basic Projects

Provides specific scanning for Visual Basic projects to identify ActiveX controls, components, and Declare statement DLL references, assisting developers in dependency management and component registration.
