Data can be drawn from JDBC compliant databases, XML files, text files, Excel files, Java classes , and Json files. Big data such as MongoDB, Redshift and Hadoop/Spark are supported as well.

Queries can be designed in the point and click query builder interface. Advanced users can write their own SQL or execute stored procedures. Query parameters allow data to be filtered at run-time.

EspressReport Enterprise Server can generate reports in many different formats: HTML/DHTML style sheets, PDF, Excel spreadsheets, Rich Text files, CSV or XML data files and delimited text.

EspressReport Enterprise Server provides end-to-end Security Management. The powerful security framework handles user/group security, role based security (including ad hoc reporting), as well as report page and element security. Report-level security allows templates to be configured to show/hide data and report elements depending on which user is viewing the report.

International characters are supported in reports, charts and maps.
