New licenses for AdminStudio Standard are no longer available, however you may continue to renew your existing maintenance for perpetual licenses. If you are interested in new licenses please see AdminStudio Professional or AdminStudio Enterprise.

On 01-Sep-2021, Revenera/Flexera changed the licensing model of the InstallShield and AdminStudio product lines. All new licenses are now 3 year non-perpetual Timed Subscription licenses. Perpetual licenses are no longer available for purchase. At the end of the Timed Subscription, you have to renew the Subscription to continue to create new/edit existing installation scripts. If you have an existing Perpetual License with Maintenance Plan that was purchased before 1-Sep-2021 AND that Bronze/Silver/Gold Maintenance Plan has not expired, you can renew that active Maintenance Plan for an additional year. If you let that Perpetual License Maintenance Plan expire, you will be required to buy a new Timed Subscription (non-perpetual) license to continue to receive upgrades and support.

AdminStudio Standard 2023 R2

Released: Oct 20, 2023

Updates in 2023 R2

Features

Package Automation Workflows

  • In the Automation Workflows (previously named the Configure Actions), you can now configure workflows for package automation. An automation workflow is a series of steps that are carried out automatically when a new version of an application becomes available, whether it's from the Package Feed or a Monitored Directory. You can configure multiple automation workflows and set one of them as the default workflow for all the new package requests added to the Backlog.

Backlog Management Enhancements

  • The following improvements have been added to the Backlog tab.
    • Export Button - A new Export button in the ribbon has been introduced in the Backlog tab. You can choose to export the data in the grid to a Microsoft Excel file (.xlsx) by using the export feature.
    • Workflow Column - A new Workflow column has been added to the Backlog tab grid.
      • From the drop-down in the Workflow column, select an automation workflow to assign to an application.
      • The assigned automation workflow will be executed on a new version of the application when automation is triggered based on your configured schedule and when manual execution is triggered by clicking the Execute button.
      • You can also select an automation workflow while adding a new package request to the Backlog and while editing a package request.

Multiple Monitored Directory

  • In the Monitored Directory, you can now configure multiple directories and assign an automation workflow to each directory. The assigned automation workflow will be executed on all the new packages found in these directories upon manual execution or through scheduled automation.

Batch Conversion to Intunewin

  • Added the ability to select and convert a batch of packages (MSI/EXE/PS1) to Intunewin format using the Conversion Wizard in the Application Manager. To support batch conversions to Intunewin, new Microsoft Intune App Conversion options have been added to specify a name format for the output Intunewin packages and an output directory for saving the output Intunewin packages.

Custom Naming of Application in Import Options

  • In the Import Options / General tab of the Options dialog box, a new Application Naming section has been added. This new setting enables you to define a format for naming the applications upon their import into an application catalog. You can leverage a list of pre-defined placeholders to define a naming format.

Package Automation Support for Custom Distribution System

  • A custom distribution system can now be configured in the Application Manager to publish applications to an Endpoint Management System that is not out-of-the-box supported by AdminStudio. The Publish action in the Automation Workflows now supports configuring a custom distribution system for publishing applications.

VMware Workspace ONE UEM Integration Enhancements

  • In the Deployment Options sub-tab under the Workspace ONE Deployment Data tab, you can now configure Data Contingencies for 'When To Install' and 'Define Criteria for When To Call Install Complete' for the applications to publish from AdminStudio to Workspace ONE UEM.

Microsoft PowerShell Cmdlets / REST API Enhancement

  • The following new PowerShell Cmdlets and REST APIs have been added:
    • Get-ASCatalogPackageMatch - When you run this Cmdlets or API, it lists the matching packages from the Catalog.
    • Get-ASPackageFeedMatch - When you run this Cmdlets or API, it lists the matching packages from the Package Feed Module.
    • Set-ASBacklogRequestMatch - When you run this Cmdlets or API, it will set matched package from catalog and package Feed for specified Backlog request.
    • Get-ASPackageAutomationWorkflows - When you run this Cmdlets or API, it will return Workflow Id and display name of the Workflow.
    • Set-ASWorkflowRequest - When you run this Cmdlets or API, you can set the workflow for the specified backlog request.
    • Set-ASSubscribeRequest - When you run this Cmdlets or API, you can set the subscription status for the specified backlog request.
  • The following existing PowerShell cmdlets / REST API have extended support:
    • New-ASPackageRequest - The following input parameters have been added to this Cmdlets and API:
      • CatalogPackageId.
      • PackageFeedId.
      • WorkflowId.
      • Subscribe.
    • Get-ASBacklogRequests - The following input parameters have been added to this Cmdlets and API:
      • PackageRequestId - If parameters are provided, it returns a list of products present in the Backlog tab matching the parameter values provided along with product details (Product Name, Version, Vendor, Package Request Id, Package Feed Id, Catalog Package Id, Automation Workflow, Source, Status, and Subscribe).

InstallShield 2023 R1

  • This release now includes InstallShield 2023 R1, that has the following new features and enhancements:
    • App Updates Check for Suite/Advanced UI Projects - This new feature lets you configure additional settings before building for periodically checking and displaying available updates when an application is deployed on a target machine.
    • Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 integration - Added support for creating, editing and building InstallScript projects from Visual Studio 2022.
    • Define Installation Condition for Windows Package Manager Prerequisite - Determine whether a Windows Package Manager (WPM) prerequisite package is already installed on the target machine.
    • Enhanced Setup.exe to Verify Digital Signature - In previous releases, an option was introduced in the Settings.xml file to enforce the digital signature of the MSI matching with the setup.exe setup launcher. In this release, that option has been extended to make sure the digital signature of the MSI has not been tampered with.
    • New Setup Prerequisites are now available - In the Redistributables explorer of the Application Data view, this release introduces the following new setup prerequisites:
      • Microsoft OLEDB Driver for SQL Server 19.3.0 (x64).
      • Microsoft OLEDB Driver for SQL Server 19.3.0 (x86).

      • Microsoft .NET 7.0 SDK 7.0.302 (x64).
      • Microsoft .NET 7.0 SDK 7.0.302 (x86).
    • Build Setup launcher with Security Features - All InstallShield setup launchers are now built with the the latest security features like control-flow-guard, enforced-code-integrity and aslr.
    • Handle installers above 2 gigabytes - This release enables LargeAddressAware flag for all setup.exe setup launchers, so that setup.exe setup launchers can handle addresses larger than 2 gigabytes during runtime.

Fixes

  • Publishing to Intune fails due to bad requests for the large packages.
  • Publishing to Intune fails with an error the Win32LobApp must have a valid value for the SetupFilePath property.
  • While installing AdminStudio Suite, the text "Typical" should be replaced with the "Complete" in the Setup type.
