Connecting Data Sources to Blazor Reports via OLEDB

November 20, 2023
Use the Object Linking and Embedding Database framework to connect your Blazor reports to a data source.

OLEDB data connectivity allows reporting software to connect to various databases and data sources through the Object Linking and Embedding Database (OLEDB) framework. This provides a wide range of data access capabilities within reports, essential for extracting data from relational databases, spreadsheets, and other OLEDB-compatible sources.

Multiple Blazor reporting components are compatible with OLEDB, including:

  • DevExpress Reports (Multi-Platform) (part of DevExpress Reporting) is a powerful and comprehensive reporting tool that offers seamless OLEDB connectivity for Blazor applications.
  • Telerik Reporting facilitates OLEDB data access in Blazor projects, providing data binding capabilities, report customization options, and support for multiple output formats.
  • Stimulsoft Reports.WEB is a lightweight and easy-to-use reporting tool that enables direct OLEDB data binding in Blazor applications. It features a user-friendly interface and cross-platform compatibility.
  • FastReport .NET is a high-performance reporting solution that facilitates OLEDB data access in Blazor projects. It offers extensive report customization possibilities, and support for various output formats.

Telerik Revises .NET Support

November 17, 2023
Starting in 2024 Telerik .NET products will exclusively support .NET Framework 4.6.2+ and .NET 6.0+.

What is changing?

As part of Telerik's commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions at the highest security and performance standards, it has announced an important update. Starting with the upcoming releases, its .NET-based products (listed at the end of this article) will exclusively support .NET Framework 4.6.2 and above, and .NET 6.0 and above. The last release supporting older framework versions is scheduled for the end of January 2024. After that, Telerik will provide one full year of support services for that release to ensure a smooth transition.

Which versions of .NET are affected?

Support for the following .NET versions is ending:

  • .NET 5.0
  • .NET Core 3.1
  • .NET Core 3.0
  • .NET Framework 4.6.1
  • .NET Framework 4.6
  • .NET Framework 4.5.2
  • .NET Framework 4.5.1
  • .NET Framework 4.5
  • .NET Framework 4.0

Why is this changing?

By targeting .NET Framework 4.6.2 and .NET 6.0, Telerik is aligning with Microsoft’s lowest-supported framework versions for .NET Framework and .NET, respectively. This enables compatibility with Microsoft’s ongoing updates and support to deliver a more robust and secure experience to you. A shift to modern framework versions brings a host of benefits including:

  • Enhanced Security: Modern frameworks come equipped with the latest security features, protecting your applications and data against evolving threats.
  • Security Certification Compliance: Using actively supported frameworks and certified tools is a prerequisite to certifying for the generally recognized security compliance certificates, e.g., SAMM Level 2 and above.
  • Improved Performance: Embracing the latest technologies allows our products to leverage performance enhancements, ensuring a faster and more responsive user experience.
  • Future-Proofing: Staying up to date with the latest framework versions allows your applications to remain compatible with future updates, preserving their longevity and reducing the need for frequent migrations.
